If a Blackguard ceases to be any-evil alilgment or other wise attons in some way, what happens? I don't see "Ex-Blackguards" under the entry for Blackguard, but I might be missing it.

No worries man, the blackguard entry does not have an ex-blackguard section. It just means that barring DM intervention, you can be any alignment you want and so you dont have to only do evil

I would guess that if you are a blackguard but become good for some reason the evil demon lord lets you keep your smite good since you can't really do anything useful with it [and remain good]. The spells are mostly evil and the fiendish sevent can always try to tempt you back.
Balckguards can't really fall since they have already hit rock bottom. And evil is always willing to take you back no matter what you've done.

Or, more likely, stab you in the back and use your guts as festival decorations for the castle, putting your ever-tortured soul in the body of a hamster. We're talking evil after all, you don't get many second chances if you double-cross your patrons.

I guess I may disagree, but why should Evil be any more lenient or forgiving to what ends you use its powers than good? I thought vengefulness, cruelty and paranoia were, if anything, more typical of evil overlords and outsiders. The argument about temptation and "they are evil powers so you are likely to use them for evil" is just as applicable for smite evil and cure disease, after all.

I think if you were to become an ex-blackguard, you would probably lose all spells, spell-likes and supernaturals, and get a bounty on your head. Maybe it's just me.

I think that being an ex-blackguard allows you opt to the PrC of Politician...

You lose all class features except BAB, Saves, HD, Feats and Skills from a Prestige Class if you stop meeting the prequsites. Sorry, you would no longer have the cool features if you weren't evil, perhaps you could trade in for Paladin levels if you became LG. . .DM decision.

Darn those tricky wizards! Must have misled many a blackguard when they relied on the prerequisites thing for their code of conduct!

Personally, I'd say that the blackguard also keeps sneak attack.

Yeah, sneak attack I guess should apply. You don't forget how to do things, you just lose the mojo that made you able to do some of the crazier stuff. Poison use, sneak attack, BAB, feats - those should remain unless it was mentioned that they are specifically granted by the patron.

They should keep all their abilites. Any alignment can be evil, a chaotic evil warlock could of done something that a blackguard didn't like and the blackguard killed him. It's an evil act for the cause of good.

So that's where they all come from!

Hardly, I think they just can not progress. Okay, maybe they will lose their spellcasting. I mean, this is arguably the only thing about assassins tied to their evil alignment, depending on what the source of their magic is.

Blackguards are not just evil, they receive special powers from their infernal patrons. Hence, for them not adhering to a certain alignment has a lot more consequences - these patrons can withdraw the powers they granted and/or punish the insolent mortals for betraying them.

Any alignment can be evil, a chaotic evil warlock could of done something that a blackguard didn't like and the blackguard killed him. It's an evil act for the cause of good.

Er, care to elaborate how that serves a good cause? An evil being doesn't get less evil for hurting another evil being. Otherwise, the Blood War would have elevated all fiends to celestial-hood. Besides, as far as "evil" is concerned, a little natural selection is a good thing. The drow, for example, are quite encouraging of such practices if they do not get out of hand.

Blackguards much like paladins are based on alignment. Unlike a paladin if the blackguard no longer is evil they cannot progress as a blackguard however they would retain their abilities. If they use any of their abilities for evil (or evil descriptor) then they will shift back to being evil. A redeemed blackguard would not use their smite good, poison use, summon fiendish servant, evil spells, and would suppress the aura of fear. As a DM I would leave the temptation of falling back to evil.

Still, doesn't it mean that paladins should keep their powers if they fall, since these tend to be good and are thus a way towards redemption? It follows from the same premise
