Just two things I'm unsure of.

If my character is a Drider using the Savage Species rules, and acts as a Sorceror, could he become an Elemental Savant at level 11, and benefit from the +1 to existing class level to be a Level 7 Sorceror equivalent, or would I actually need to take one level in Sorceror first?

Also Elemental Perfection states you get the movement modes, special traits etc of the an elemental. As a fire Elemental Savant, does this mean I would incinerate everything I touch, or just if I use my slam attack? Since Fire Elemental savants only undergo a minor physical change... I assume I won't torch everything I touch, but I'm not sure.

Thanks

Actually you could go right into Elemental Savant....if it weren't for the skill requirements for the class. You could alleviate that by taking Educated or a similar feat that would let Knowledge Arcana be a class skill for you, as it isn't a class skill for your drider hit dice. Otherwise you'd have to take a level of sorcerer or another class with it as a class skill and make the skill out to 8 to become an elemental savant.

That transition ability is soooo vaguely worded...Here's my take: You gain a Slam attack that deals 1d6+str + 1d6 fire damage, the Burn ability (DC 17+con, as you are large), vulnerability to cold, and Improved Initiative and Weapon Finesse as bonus feats. You won't catch anything you touch on fire all the time, but when you slam fire shoots out that's how I take it, so you should be fine.

+1 to existing spellcasting class means you really do need a lvl in sorc, since drider isn't a class no matter what abilities he has.

I am sure you don't torch everything you touch simply because you are of elemental type (fire subtype). Like the feat Elemental Envoy (psionic) could summon an emberling (I think), the emberling won't set fire to everything or no one want him around and the feat wouldn't exist. Thing is, you should have at least control of your element. Fire burns only if the energy (heat) is high enough to combust. Therefore, I am sure as a fire elemental you can keep that temperature down enough to prevent a fire.

The drider casts spells as a caster level 6, therefore you will get the benifits of the +1 spellcaster level. It's the same sort of thing as the Unbodied taking a level in psion (telepath), or an aranea taking sorcerer levels. They stack.

...or that rhino guardinal taking levels of Monk.

So do feats that let whatever always be class skills for you work for racial hit die?

I'm liking what I'm hearing.. hmm, almost completely forgot about the skill requirements though XD... Urm, what book is the Educated Feat in?

It's in the forgotten realms campaign setting book, I think it's in the ebberon book as well.

Can anyone PM me the benefit of that feat? I don't have any source book with it nor was I aware that it existed so I had on homebrew. Wanna see how different it is from mine.

Ah, what a useful feat.. I'll have to see if my DM will allow from the Forgotten Realms stuff.

So.. the majority think that I can just go from Drider to Elemental Savant, being able to cast as a 7th level Sorceror with my First level of it?

I agree with it.

However, getting the educated feat might be a problem as it is a regional feat and no drider (or drow) would be from that region.

That could be easily elevated by a homebrew version, like mine, since I wasn't aware of such a feat before.

Well educated make all knowledge skills be class skills, but you could make a feat like:

Focused Study
Benefit: Choose a knowledge sub-skill. That sub-skill is always a class skill for you and you get a +2 bonus to checks with that skill.
Special: You may only take this feat at first level.

My homebrew feat is like this

SKILL MONKEY (I really haven't got a good name for it yet)
Prereq: at least 15 in relevant ability.
Benefit: Choose any 3 skills as your class skill. You must have 15 or higher ability score in the relevant ability.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Its effect doesn't stack. Each time you choose this feat, select new skills you qualify for. Also, if the skill selected is trained only, you still need to have ranks in it to use it.

I mean, after all, there is a feat that grant you 5 skill points. So a feat that lets you have 3 more skills as class skills but no ranks and no bonuses to them isn't that bad.

Isn't there a similar feat in races of destiny?

Don't have that book. If any of you will donate $500 I will buy every 3.5 rule books that I don't own....

Or you could house-rule that skill focus lets the skill you choose always be class skill for you, as my friend just mentioned.

Well, skill focus give you bonus to the feat. That's what I didn't want.
