Flaming bard PrCs? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-21-07, 10:35 PM .. No, I do not mean PrCs for bards who wear pink and whatnot (though mine does..) My question is: Are there any bard-accessable PrCs that specialize in fire or can easily be changed/tweaked TO become speciallized in fire? My bard comes from a very fire-inspired family (royalty. desert/fire nation. no, i've never read or watched the avatar series.) and uses fire. a lot. Any help would be appreciated.

05-21-07, 11:39 PM Seeker of the Song (Complete Arcane) isn't really specialized in fire per se, but they're good with fire effects: they get songs which are flashier than regular bards.

Sublime Chords (Also Complete Arcane) get "Song of Cosmic Fire" around level 6 or somesuch. Oh, and they can take sorcerer spells.

05-22-07, 09:21 AM The evangelist PrC from Complete Divine has a 3rd-level ability that lets you wreathe allies in protective holy flame. It's got prereqs that a bard can easily acheive, and synergy with bardic music.

05-22-07, 10:05 AM Have you seen the Hearfire Fanner from Dragon Magazine #314? His class levels stack with bard levels for bardic music calculations, and he gets full spell progression. Unfortunately, most of the "fire" concept is flavor, rather then effect. He's more of a support character that can do things like confer bonus feat on allies, inspire a spellcaster to use a metamagic feat without increasing the spell's level/slot, and increase the duration of an ally's spell or special ability beyond it's normal duration.

Still, the same article has at least one fire-based bard spell, called heartfire. It sort of acts like faeriefire, but also inflicts a little fire damage on the target.

05-22-07, 09:02 PM Ah, I've heard of all those except evangelist. HFF is indeed nice, but I'd prefer a more gish-y class. The cleric dispenses more (and better) support than me.

What about the Symphony of Ages series by Elizabeth Haydon? ;)

I have a bard who has a special connection to elemental fire as well. She has the Snowflake Wardance feat for the martial aspect of her personality, and will be taking fire-based sorcerer spells from the Sublime Chord PrC list(it also helps that it has the song of cosmic fire ability). :mage:

A more martial approach to a fire-based bard could be achieved via Bard/Fighter/Sublime Chord/Eldritch Knight. The Eldritch Knight would continue the spell progression of the Sublime Chord's own spell list so you can still get access to 8th-9th level sorcerer spells.

05-23-07, 01:57 AM There's also the Pyrokineticist (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/pyrokineticist.htm), if you're going for flavor over power. The class itself frankly isn't that great power-wise, but it may be an interesting dip as part of another build, such as a sublime chord gish. It's extremely easy for a bard to gain access even by level 5 with a feat and a few skill points.

05-24-07, 10:27 AM I believe that in the same issue of Dragon mentioned above, there is a bard prestige class focused on cold called the Ice Singer or something to that effect. They get bonus spells from the wizard list with the cold descriptor and a few other abilities. It shouldn't be too difficult to adjust this class to become fire based.
