| Athaal08-27-07, 09:32 AM | early BUMP |
| Raggers08-27-07, 02:43 PM | Yer, a good idea, it provides a monk with a way to avoid direct combat, making his low hit die not so much of an issue, being able to "flash" around in battle makes this character well suited for taking out groups of archers or mages. |
| Raggers08-28-07, 10:59 AM | BUMP |
| Tectorman08-28-07, 11:32 AM | So with the Flash Strike, they attack, deal the extra damage, and then teleport away? How does that catch opponents off-guard? Or did you mean "on an attack directly after a Flash Step"? Not trying to be an English freak, but which did you mean? |
| Athaal08-28-07, 11:37 AM | I think the better definition i will change it for is: 'in any round in which the character has performed a flash step, attacks the Flash Adept make deal an additional xd6 damage.' Therefore it benefits with AoO |
| bkdubs12308-28-07, 01:08 PM | I like it. Nothing super fancy about it, and not really a whole lot flavor, but that's okay, for a 5 level prestige class. It should offer something exciting, but nothing overly game effecting. |
| Athaal08-28-07, 01:30 PM | Thank you. I mean, it is hard to get a flavorsome 5 level PrC class. And I am glad you feel it balanced. Raggers is the monk in our party and he wanted to be the Disciple of the Fist originally but now wants to be this. The whole idea of Flash Stepping came from Yoruichi, Goddess of Flash, from Bleach. It is troublesome to know that she can do 300 in a row with only little effort (eventually DC = 10 + [299*2] ... 608), but if we made it that easy then it would be sought after and unbalancing. |
| CactusPOP08-30-07, 10:42 AM | Prerequisites Tumble 15 ranks Spring Attack Mobility I disagree. First, you are limitating this PrC to a 12th-level character, and I think it would be useless against monsters of this challenge. I would replace the prerequisities to: Prerequisities: Skills: Tumble 11, Balance 8 Feats: Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack Flash Step (Su) The Flash Adept has learned to, as a swift action, ‘teleport’ a distance equal to 1/2 his/her normal speed. This movement ignores difficult terrain, and does not provoke Attacks of Opportunity. Ok, suppose that I have a Rogue 12th / Flash Adept 1st. My BAB would be +11/+6/+1 without miscelanious addings, +6d6 Sneak Attack and +1d6 Flash Strike. At my turn I use Flash Step moving to behind my enemy, getting him unprepared about the swift action. My first attack would receive +7d6 bonus, my second +1d6 and my last +1d6. Thinking in numbers, this would be too overpowered. |
| Athaal08-31-07, 07:18 AM | the bit about catching foes unaware is really only for flavour; no sneak attack is granted and they are not caught flat-footed. unless you flashstep to behind them. |
| Raggers08-31-07, 12:59 PM | unless you flashstep to behind them. Do you mean flashing behind in one turn and sneack attacking the next or do you mean flashing to behind and sneak attacking in the same turn? |
| forsaken111108-31-07, 02:00 PM | Ok, suppose that I have a Rogue 12th / Flash Adept 1st. My BAB would be +11/+6/+1 without miscelanious addings, +6d6 Sneak Attack and +1d6 Flash Strike. Whats unbalancing about a class that can do half the damage a wizard can, but only under specific circumstances? Most of the damage came from the rogue class levels anyway, and there are plenty of ways to get sneak attack without this PRC. |
| Athaal08-31-07, 02:32 PM | so should sneak attacks be stackable? I think on review that they should. |
| Meep32608-31-07, 02:37 PM | Okay suppose I have a 13 wizard and I cast chain lightning on you. I do 13d6 damage to you, or 6d6 if you save, and half to your friends. Um... you're still doing 13d6 but you cut that in half, not the number of die in half. |
| Meep32608-31-07, 02:52 PM | Edit: Oops. Double post. |
| forsaken111108-31-07, 02:53 PM | Um... you're still doing 13d6 but you cut that in half, not the number of die in half. Well you know what I meant. |
| IdleAltruism08-31-07, 03:28 PM | FLASH ADEPT Prerequisites Tumble 15 ranks Spring Attack Mobility Lets see, 3 feats and a 12th level character. This class really makes those feats worthless so I guess 3 feats is just for entry. Flash Step (Su) The Flash Adept has learned to, as a swift action, ‘teleport’ a distance equal to 1/2 his/her normal speed. This movement ignores difficult terrain, and does not provoke Attacks of Opportunity. The character can not take any other movement in a round this ability is used, but the Flash Adept may still take other move equivalent actions. Each time past the first the character use this ability during a given encounter, make a Fortitude save verses a DC = 10+ 2 per additional Flash Step made that encounter. If the character fails the save, he/she becomes fatigued. Flash Step may not be used if fatigued (or exhausted). Compared to other classes with similar abilities this is way to powerful. Look at swordsages, shadow dancers, horizon walks. Sword sage has a very limited number of times he can use his ability in an encounter. The horizon walker and shadow dancer both have to use standard actions. The more roguish of the classes, the shadow dancer, has many limitations attached to their teleportation. This is the ultimate one level dip class for a rogue, good bab, free teleport, and two good saves, better HD, skills suffer but who cares? Flash Strike (Ex) In any round in which the character has performed a Flash Step, attacks the Flash Adept make deal an additional 1d6 damage. The Flash Adept deals extra damage as he/she catches the foes unaware. This damage is +1d6 at level one and increases by +1d6 every two levels thereafter (3, 5). This ability is to vague. Is it precision damage? it looks like it, does the foe count as flat footed? Is there anyway a foe can negate this damage? I would make this give them a sudden strike ability or something. Allowing a feint check or something like that whenever you flash(Make it a move action to flash and feint, this would also possibly add improved feint as a prerequisite). Uncanny Dodge (Ex) As the Rogue ability of the same name. Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex) As the Rogue ability of the same name. Perfect Mobility (Ex) The Flash Adept never provokes attacks of opportunity by moving out or into a threatened square. These abilities are really just crap. They aren't creative and they really aren't worth it, you could probably get away removing them entirely and no one would notice. How exactly does a flash adept work? Some fluff would be nice. This class needs alot of work. No real reason to take it past level 1, its key ability is its only good one and is slightly overpowered(if you can catch foes flat footed with it that is, from previous posts it looks like you can). What role does this class try to fill? It looks like a cheap way to get backstabbing real easy. There is no real loss, you take three feats to get in and this class basically makes those feats obsolete, giving you a more powerful way to accomplish what they try to do with just one dip! |
| Athaal09-01-07, 01:12 PM | firstly Im unlikely to change the features of the class in the way you say (removal) because i didnt design the class; its what a friend wants to play. This class is designed for any character really but if the player would use it for sneak attacks then that is their choice. The character that will be using it is a monk. |
