| aristotlenow01-23-08, 01:18 PM | Alright, Context is that I've been playing in this group for a while, from level 1 up, with a wizard (just general run-of-the-mill spellcaster). I read about the geometer class, and it looked like a bunch of fun (the concept is very rich, I think). But I'm having trouble seeing the strong advantages or disadvantages to the abilities. None of them look all that amazing (except if you really like saving spellbook space). What are your thoughts and critiques abou the Geometer? |
| dman1123501-23-08, 01:38 PM | It's nice, with the spell glyph and all. It's not as good as master specialist or archmage, but considering the prereqs, it's a good trade. +1 CL is a small boost, and free silent spell without a boost to spell level is also nice, even though you pay a small amount of money (which you save from writing in your spell book). I'd never play one though. |
| SkipSandwich01-23-08, 01:41 PM | The best thing about the geometer is that its a full progression PrC, everything else is just gravy. |
| Dog_O_War01-23-08, 01:47 PM | "My math is superior!" .....is what this class is all about. You use shape and geometry to better prepare and execute your spells. It's for the wizard who wants to bring depth to his hand movements and such. Okay class, but it's for in-character geeks. |
| Tanegar01-23-08, 02:23 PM | I just multiclassed into Geometer (currently Wizard 6/Geometer 1). I haven't used a spellglyph yet, but glyph of warding has come in handy once. I was drawn to the class by its fluff. As has been said, none of the class features are really overpowering, but that's as it should be for a full-progression caster PrC. |
| Rulebook01-23-08, 06:35 PM | i like having 100 spells in my spellbooks (last time i played one) and that was about it. spellglyphs arent all that. just a dip or so works wonders. |
| Wih01-24-08, 01:22 AM | It's only a 5 level class; it's not something that defines your character. It's not too powerful, it's not too weak. It's quite decent, but nothing to laugh all the way to the bank about. It's like a little bit of flavouring, or a little bit a spice to add to a character - nothing too strong, but it might really suit another flavour and mix well. |
| teshen01-24-08, 02:47 AM | I agree with the rest of the comments so far... with one minor addition. There are rules near the back of Complete Arcane for alternative spellbooks, with skin being one medium. Arcane geometry + tattoos = Cool. If you have a DM that targets your spellbook at some point, it's nice to have several of your favorite spells on your forearm, like an arcane cheat sheet. ;) If your DM is big on arcane traps, sigilsight will see some use... otherwise, yeah, it's more flavor than substance. |
