Who ya gonna call? These dudes!

Ghostbuster

These individuals are warriors trained to go after incorporeal creatures who plague the material plane and it's denizens.

The easiest path to becoming a Ghostbuster is to take five levels of Cleric or Paladin, though members of most any class can qualify for it.

Prerequisites:
Alignment: Any good
BAB: +3
Skills: Knowledge (Religion) 8 ranks, Knowledge (The Planes) 3 ranks
Spellcasting: Able to cast 1st level Divine spells
Proficiencies: Must be proficient with at least one martial weapon

Class Skills:
Bluff, Concentration, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Heal, Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (The Planes), Listen, Profession (Ghost Hunter), Sense Motive, Spellcraft.
Skill Points per level: 4+int

Hit Die: d8

BAB Fort Ref Will Abilities Spellcasting
1. +0 +0 +0 +2 Turn Undead, Smite Ghost 1/day, Ghost Touch +1 existing Divine spellcasting
2. +1 +0 +0 +3 Advanced Learning +1 existing Divine Spellcasting
3. +1 +1 +1 +3 Smite Ghost 2/day +1 existing Divine Spellcasting
4. +2 +1 +1 +4 Advanced Learning +1 existing Divine spellcasting
5. +2 +1 +1 +4 Smite Ghost 3/day, Improved Ghost Touch +1 existing Divine spellcasting

Class Abilities
Armor and Weapon Proficiencies: A Ghostbuster gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Spells per Day/Spells known: Ghostbusters continue to progress as a spellcaster, if they already have levels of a Divine casting class. Every time a character with levels in a Divine casting class gains a level of Ghostbuster, they gain an increase to their spells per day and spells known, if applicable, as if they had gained a level in the class that granted their Divine spellcasting ability. If a Ghostbuster level is gained, and the character has more than one Divine casting class, they must choose which class to apply this bonus to.

Turn Undead: A Ghostbuster possesses the ability to Turn undead, in the same way a good cleric can. If the character already has levels of a class that grants the ability to Turn undead, then levels of Ghostbuster stack for all Turning related purposes.

Smite Ghost: Starting at level 1, a Ghostbuster can, once per day, make a special Smite attack against an incorporeal foe. They add their Charisma modifier to the attack roll, and if their attack hits, they add their Ghostbuster level to the damage dealt. If the Ghostbuster already has a Smite ability (from Paladin levels, or the Destruction domain, for example), Ghostbuster levels stack to determine damage dealt with all Smite abilities. At third level, and again at fifth, a Ghostbuster gains one additional daily use of their Smite Ghost ability.

Ghost Touch (Ex): Ghostbusters are specially trained to be able to strike their chosen foes. Any weapon a Ghostbuster wields is treated as though under the effect of a Ghost Touch enchantment for purposes of determining if it affects incorporeal creatures.

Advanced Learning (Ex): At second level, and again at fourth, a Ghostbuster gains access to spells that are more effective against incorporeal creatures. The Ghostbuster selects one spell from any spell list that has the Force descriptor, and adds it to their list of available spells. For casters who prepare their spells, they still have to prepare it normally, it simply allows them to prepare that spell, in addition to any others they may have. For spontaneous casters, it adds the chosen spell to their list of spells known.

Improved Ghost Touch: At fifth level, a Ghosthunter achieves the pinnacle of their training in taking on incorporeal creatures. Any spell cast by a Ghostbuster on an incorporeal creature does not incur the normal 50% miss chance normally brought about by non-Force spells.

This is starting to become habit...

Look in my sig and you will find a link to my pre-formatted PrC sheets. I suggest using the second of the two. All you have to do is quote/highlight/copy/paste and then fill in all the blanks. It will help clean your class up a bit and make it easier for the good folks here to PEACH for you.

OK, formatted, and bumping for more opinions.

It's okay, but it lacks uniqueness. What I mean is that the abilities are mostly bland. I would try to find something else to add to the class that either helps it fight ghosts or defend from them.

Otherwise, the abilities are fine as is.

Do you have any suggestions? That don't involve high-level technology?

Let's look at my handy dandy Monster Manual. Well, at 2nd level you can make them Immune to the Horrific Appearance of a Ghost. Then at 4th Level you can make them Immune to the Frightful Moan of a Ghost. I would remove the 1st level of Spellcasting to add these abilities.

Hmm, or, as a thought, just a single ability that says "you are immune to any non-damaging effect produced by incorporeal creatures"? Since I did design them to go after any type of incorporeal creature, rather than just ghosts (despite their name)

My advice would be to build up towards complete immunity. Also you might consider giving them some sort of bonus against incorporeal touch attacks. Also they need some sort of bonus to their saves vs. things like level drain and ability damage.

That could work, although you'll have to be very specific when you say "non-damaging". Although to use a ghost as the example, that would make it only immune to the Frightful Moan, not the Horrific Appearance. Still, that's not going to be much help seeing as the Ghost has at least 4 special attacks that deal damage.

I would go with DonT and build up to almost complete immunity or give at least bonuses to the things they're not immune to.

Hmm, or perhaps an ability that renders them immune to ability damage from incorporeal creatures? Essentially making it so that they only take hit point damage, and get bonuses on their saves against that.

You could do that, but it seems a little bit over powered to me. My advice is to give them a small bonus at 1st level, like lets say +2 to all saves vs. incorporeal touch attack effects. This bonus would become +4 at 3rd level and them top out at +6 at 5th (or something to this affect). You could also have this bonus add on as a bonus to AC vs these kinds of attacks.

Also they need to have some sort of bonus against save vs. die effects. If they go up against a banshee she is gonna make short work with her wail.

This class is meant to be like the Ghostbusters right? If that is the case they need some way to trap the ghost in something like a soul stone or some such. That was the Ghostbusters thing, IIRC. It could actually be a class feature, so that whenever the ghostbuster successfully smites a ghost they can give up a Turn Undead attempt to force the ghost to make a Will save or be trapped in some sort of containment unit.

That would give the whole class a bit more flavor as well.
