Exalted Necromancer Requirements: Alignment: Any Good Feats: Pure Soul, Consecrate Spell Ability to cast Animate Dead Skills: Knowledge (Arcana) 13 ranks, Knowledge (Religion) 13 ranks HD = d4, Skill Points = 2 + Int modifier Class Skills: Concentration, Craft, Decipher Script, Heal, Knowledge Arcana, Knowledge Religion, Profession, Spellcraft Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special Spellcasting 1 0 0 0 2 Rebuke Undead, Consecrated Animate Dead 1/day 2 1 0 0 3 Necromantic Presence, +1 existing Arcane or Divine 3 1 1 1 3 Master of Undeath 4 2 1 1 4 Necromantic Might, +1 existing Arcane or Divine 5 2 1 1 4 Deathless Rebuke Undead - As the cleric ability, use Exalted Necromancer level. Stacks with Cleric levels however. Good aligned cleric may choose to Turn or Rebuke Consecrated Animate Dead - May cast Animate Dead once per day as a spell like ability using the Exalted Necro's caster level. Undead created this way have a Good alignment and react as such vs spells and abilities such as Smite Evil/Good. Necromantic Presence - As the feat in Libris Mortis Master of Undeath - As the feat in Complete Mage, except that when the duration ends, if the Undead was animated with a Consecrated Animate Dead, it instead is simply destroyed. Necromantic Might - As the feat in Libris Mortis Deathless - Upon reaching 5th level as an Exalted Necromancer the character gains the Deathless template from Book of Exalted Deeds. He no longer has a Constitution score, all his existing HD become d12s and he must reroll his hitpoints. (This is similar to the Dread Necromancer level 20 ability in Heroes of Horror, it's balanced out by losing 3 caster progressions I think, but I've never played a lot of high level stuff so not positive) |

However, the immunity to Disrupting weapons, along with the whole hordlet of immunities sounds like a pretty good tradeoff. ^_^ Of course, the instadeath at 0 HP is a bit problematic, but you'd have the d12 HD, so that's compensated for. Don't have access to the Libris Mortis, so not too sure about Necromatic Presense/Might. |

| Infinitive02-25-07, 11:13 PM | Couple of thoughts: The caster progression through this class is really brutal. 2/5 progression is an excellent deterrant to anyone interested in calling down apocolypses. I agree that the feat progression is very powerful (especially Deathless), but this is essentially a caster class. Make sure that an inability to cast well isn;t what dooms this for prospective PCs. The only reason I see to enter this class from the arcane side is the capstone ability (for it's massive HD overwrite); turning d4's into d12's is HUUUUUGE (should triple total HP with Con 10); d8's into d12's not so much. I would strongly suggest giving some kind of an arcane benefit as an alternate to the Rebuke Undead ability, or to have it stack with arcane caster levels as well. It'd be a unique and potent class ability; that's always a good thing for a PrC. Aside from that? It's a pretty decent PrC. 10th level minimum might be a little excessive though. |
| Coridan02-26-07, 12:01 AM | I was afraid that getting Deathless before 15th might be too powerful, though maybe 8th minimum? And I could up it to 3 or 4/5 caster level progression (levels 2-5 or levels 2, 4 and 5). Most PrCs that grant Turn/Rebuke only have it stack with Paladin/Cleric, anyone else who comes in starts from scratch (For example the apostle of peace) but there are still good things the character can use his Rebuke attempts for through feats. I think the d12s replacing the d4 HD with arcane casting is worth it for Arcane Users and all the other combined bonuses worth it for Clerics. Not to mention the Consecrated Animate Dead 1/day combined with Master of Undeath means a free pet of up to twice your HD for several days and he won't attack you once the duration is over. If other people agree though the rebuke counting arcane spellcasting levels of highest class towards it could work. I've not much direct experience with Rebuke. |
