The title really says it all, the prestige is at this link http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1

I have access to Core and Complete, so go ahead, do your moderately worst.

Well, if you have access to Dungeonscape, I'd have to say the Factotum.

And if you don't have access to Dungeonscape. . .

Still the Factotum.

Meh, I can live with a rogue. I like rogues. Then again, an urban ranger/ chameleon can also be kinda cute.

Hey, speaking of rangers, would a chameleon levels count as wizard levels when you're imitating a wizard for the Sword of the Arcane Order feat?

Binder (need the City Slicker feat to qualify without multiclassing) and Warlock are quirky alternatives.

In addition to rogue, bard or beguiler works well. Cleric with the trickery domain -- preferrably cloistered cleric -- also works. Psion (shaper) would make an interesting choice, although I don't think it's a particularly good idea.

Rogue/ranger could work too. For instance, rogue 4/ranger 6/chameleon 10 is good if you want to maintain good skill points and end with +16 base attack bonus.

Playing a base caster does have the slight advantage of allowing you to turn your floating feat into an item creation feat (ability focus (divine) or ability focus (arcane) doesn't); a bard or cloistered cleric 5 could use the floating feat to have craft wondrous item when that's needed, craft wand when that's needed, and craft magical arms and armor when that's needed, or brew potion or scribe scroll. Not a big deal if you aren't into crafting or don't have much down time, but if you do, it'd be handy.

Overall, I'd probably go with rogue.

If you are a warlock, a 2-lv dip in chameleon is very useful, since you can use its bonus feat to access any item creation feat you want in the game (very invaluable in tandem with imbue item feature).:)
