The Rundown:

I've been playing around with making a D&D campaign setting out of Delta Tao's Clanlord (http://www.deltatao.com/clanlord/) with my friend, but I have very little experience designing classes and races and such. I'm sure it shows. This is why I'm asking for help.

In Clanlord, there's a mid level fighter subclass called rangers. To avoid any confusion with regular D&D style rangers, I'll just refer to them as Gossamer Specialists.

Gossamer Specialists in Clanlord are a situational class in many cases. When they fight something they have learned, they really shine, hitting much harder and more often than an unspecialized fighter of the same level. However, on the other side of things, when a Gossamer Specialist has to fight something they have not learned, they perform much more poorly than a straight trained fighter of their level.

Their abilities basically equate to powerful favored enemy bonuses, wild shape, and cleave.

When building this class, I tried to reflect this in their poor base attack and save bonuses, and their high concentration of specialized abilities.

Here's what I have so far. I am aware that I am bad at conversion. I am aware that this is a broken mess. This is where you smart people come in.

If any of my writing comes off as garbled or convoluted, tell me and I'll try to fix it. I'm pretty tired right now.

The Gossamer
A Gossamer is a type of rapier specially made for the purpose of cutting through large groups of weak enemies. Gossamers are always masterwork, and cost 5000 copper.

Martial weapon, one handed melee
Damage: 1d6
Critical: 18-20 x2

Gossamer Specialist Prestige Class

Gossamer Specialists have the following game statistics.
Base Attack Bonus: Poor
Hit Die: d6
Saves: Good Reflex/poor Fortitude and Will.
Class Skills: Knowledge (Nature) (Int), Knowledge (Geography) (Int), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Search (Wis), Handle Animal (Cha), Swim (Str), Climb (Str), Hide (Dex)
Skill points at each level: 4+Int Modifier

Class Features:

|Leve|BAB|Fort Save|Ref Save|Will Save| Special
| 1 | +0 | +0 | +2 | +0 | Cleave
| 2 | +1 | +0 | +3 | +0 | First Enemy Specialization +2 +1d6
| 3 | +1 | +1 | +3 | +1 | Burst 1/day
| 4 | +2 | +1 | +4 | +1 | Second Enemy Specialization +4
| 5 | +2 | +1 | +4 | +1 | Great Cleave
| 6 | +3 | +2 | +5 | +2 | Third Enemy Specialization +6 +2d6
| 7 | +3 | +2 | +5 | +2 | Burst 3/day
| 8 | +4 | +2 | +6 | +2 | Fourth Enemy Specialization +8
| 9 | +4 | +3 | +6 | +3 | -
| 10\ +5 \ +3 \ +7 \ +3 \ Fifth Enemy Specialization +10 +3d6

Cleave:
A gossamer specialist gains Cleave as a bonus feat when wielding a gossamer at first level, whether or not he meets the prerequisites for it. At fifth level, this is replaced by Great Cleave.

Burst:
Beginning at 3rd level, a gossamer specialist can focus his energy into a burst of speed once per day. Instead of taking any normal actions, he can instead move four times his speed for one round. He can use this ability three times a day at level seven.

Enemy Specialization:
At 2nd level, and every second level after it, a gossamer specialist selects an enemy specialization from the Ranger favored enemy chart. He gains a +2 bonus to hit and plus 1d6 damage against all creatures of this type when wielding his gossamer. The bonus to hit increases by two every time a new enemy specialization, and the damage bonuses increases by 1d6 at every second specialization chosen.

In addition, a gossamer specialist may "morph" into a creature from a type he has chosen for enemy specialization. This functions as the druid ability wild shape, except that size restrictions do not apply.

Tried to edit some of the stuff in the original post so it made more sense.

So, do you want advice on balancing it, or advice on converting it to D&D better?
