| AllWillFall2Me05-10-07, 02:11 AM | So, I had recently bought the new Iron Kingdoms stuff, and been Playing Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, and realized that there were several feats in the material that led me to consider making a group fo the idea of Space Marine units (yes, I'm a nerd, moving on) So, I was pondering how to convert The Gray Knights and The Librarian into D&D. This is my Idea for Gray Knights: Requirements: BAB:+5 Feats: Iron Will, Weapon Focus (Glaive) Spells: Ability to cast 2nd Level spells. (Note: i wanted this to be a fairly easy to enter martial/spellcaster mix) Hit Die: d8 Table: The Gray Knight Lvl BAB Fort Ref Will Special Spells 1---+1---+2---+0---+2---Glaive Mastery:Unyielding, Bladebound - 2---+2---+3---+0---+3---Armored Mage +1 from spellcasting class 3---+3---+3---+1---+3---Glaive Mastery:Forceful - 4---+4---+4---+1---+4---Glaive Mastery:Strength of Arm +1 from Spellcasting class 5---+5---+4---+1---+4---Psychic Inquisition - 6---+6---+5---+2---+5---Glaive Mastery:Strike of The Righteous +1 from Spellcasting class 7---+7---+5---+2---+5---Glaive Mastery:Keep Enemies Close - 8---+8---+6---+2---+6---Armored Mage, Legs of Steel. +1 from Spellcasting Class 9---+9---+6---+3---+6---Glaive Mastery:Blows of Power - 10--+10--+7---+3---+7---Glaive Mastery: Lethal Blossom +1 from Spellcasting class. Skills: Concentration, Intimidate, Knowledge(Religion), Knowledge(Arcana), Sense Motive, Spot, and others you deem fit (Not too good at this part.) Class Abilities: Glaive Mastery: As the Gray Knight advances, he develops a bound with the signature weapon of the Gray Knights, the Glaive. At 1st level, the Gray Knight may set the glaive against a charge, if he does so, a successful hit deals double damage. At 2nd Level, If a Gray Knight charges a foe from Horseback, he deals double damage with his glaive. At 3rd Level, a Gray Knight May wield a Glaive 1 handed, without penalty. At 6th Level, a Gray Knight is Treated as having the Spirited Charge feat when wielding a Glaive. At 7th Level, The Gray knight threatens all squares within 10 feet, as if his Glaive were both a reach weapon and a non-reach weapon. Anyone struck by the glaive of a 9th Level Gray Knight must make a Strength check (DC 10+1/2 the damage dealt) or be knocked back 1 foot for every point of damage (round to the nearest 5 foot interval) At 10th Level, a Gray Knight may Attack all targets he threatens as a Full-round action. He may do so once a day without penalty. A second time will fatigue him. A third will Exhaust him. A fourth will render him him staggered. A fifth will render him unconscious for (1d10-Con modifier, minimum 1) minutes. Bladebound:A Gray Knight is treated as a fighter of his Gray knight level +3 for the purposes of qualifying for feats realted to his glaive. This stacks with any fighter levels he has. Armored Mage: At the indicated levels, the Gray Knight gains the benefits of this feat. If he does not ignore armor spell failure chance, he gains the ability to ignore light armor. If he ignores armor spell failure chance, he gains a +1 to Caster Level Checks made in Armor. Spells: At every even Level, the Gray Knight Gains Spells per day and/or Spells Known as if he had gained a level in one of his existing spellcasting classes. He may choose which at each level. Psychic Inquisition: 3/day, the Gray Knight can cast Holy Smite as a Spell-Like Ability. In addition, he can also hear the surface thoughts of the creatures damaged by the spell fro 1 round per Gray Knight Level. Legs of Steel: At 8th level, The Gray knight is no longer slowed by armor. Also, he is treated as being mounted at all timesfor the purpose of his Glaive's damage. (ie, he need only charge to activate Spirited Charge) Psionic Gray Knights:If your campaign world supports Psionics, then the Gray Knights are an order of Psychi Warriors. Change the Requirement to "Ability to Manifest 2nd level Powers." And change their Spellcasting Progression to Manifester Progression. So, any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? |

| Garonak05-10-07, 02:50 AM | Looks okay so far. You might want to add what weapon and armor proficiencies the Grey Knight gains. Even if it doesn't gain any, most prestige classes have that. There's quite alot of books out there where it doesn't say anything about weapon and armor prof. So it's not that important. Unless the prc actually grants some of course. |
| JulesCARV05-10-07, 04:42 AM | They're psykers, not spellcasters! The requirement should be ability to manifest 2nd level powers. Spellcasting is the corrupt practice of depraved Tzeentch-worshippers who must all be mercilessly cleansed by the Emperor's holy wrath and blah blah blah! |
| Haruspex05-10-07, 07:26 AM | JulesCARV brings up a good point. Though in a DnD-based world things may be a little different (no Tzeentch or Emperor, for example). I second the 2nd-level powers motion, but that's only because of the Grey Knight's fluff. That said, what role do you see these Gray Knights in? If my recollection is correct, according to their 40K game stats and background they would be religious psychic warriors who fight daemons and are even more badass than regular Space Marines. I do like the way you did the glaive thing, which is called a Nemesis Force Weapon IIRC. |
| Spikes01k05-10-07, 08:09 AM | Bladebound:A Gray Knight is treated as a fighter of his Gray knight level +3 for the purposes of qualifying for feats realted to his glaive. This stacks with any fighter levels he has. The wording on this needs to be changed. seems a little dry otherwise. |
| AllWillFall2Me05-10-07, 11:39 PM | Firstly, thanks everyone for the responses. I totally spaced on the Psionic Knight portion, which I meant to include from the beginning. And I wasn't thinking, and didn't write the Armor and Weapon Profs. Spikes, How should I reword it? I mainly wanted the Knights to be able to grab the fighter-specific feats on the glaive. And now that you mention it, they should have some demon-hunting powers. What kinds of powers did you have in mind? Favored Enemy(Evil Outsider)? Added Spells? Something Totally different? Hmmm. I could add that their glaive gains evil outsider bane for free while wielded at 8th level. Too Powerful? NOTE: Also, I had this class in mind as a sort of elite units within a Nation's army. If you've read the Iron Kingdom Stuff, what essentially happened is I saw the Greylord feat, which a character swears loyalty to a nation in order to gain several warrior-mage benefits. So I thought that an order of super-loyal warrior mages named "Greylords" sounded just like these guys. |
