Green Star Adept consumes Star Metal to slowly transform into a living statue... During this process does the weight of the person increase? Does their mass increase? So if your hero weighs 165 lbs of flesh, and begins to transform into a living statue of adamantine/star metal wouldn't they slowly gain weight and mass as well? If so to what degree?

Interesting question. I would say that yes, it would make sense for the GSA to gain weight as part of the transformation. I would add however much the metal that they consume at each level weighs to their total weight.

Well, you only have to eat 2 ounces to start, and then 1 pound per level thereafter for a grand total of 9 pounds and 2 ounces. That doesn't seem like a terribly significant increase to me, considering the entire structure of the hero changes from flesh to metal.

At the same time I can't help but think of the old riddle: Which weighs more a pound of gold or a pound of feathers?

At the same time I can't help but think that a 6' stack of Star Metal is going to weigh more than a 6' stack of flesh. Is the GSA slowly hollowing out even as they transform? :)

Also... Even if the weight doesn't change what about something like buoyancy in water? Surely a GSA is going to sink faster than a flesh creature, yes?

Agreed with Jaxgaret. Then again, since magic is also involve in the process, it might be even more. Just find the approximate volume of your character and use the average density emerald (2.75 g/cm3, since he's suppose to be and sculpture of himself made of emerald, altough star metal is , well, a metal).

And well, when fully transform, he might not be buoyant, but the rules are silent on this so the DM should rule. But yeah, he should sink. However, at 10th level, he wont care much about being at the bottom of the see (it might be a problem to get him back however).

But if volume and weight don't change, he should still be buoyant (average density would remain the same). Else all ship made with metal would sink ;)

Have a penalty on swim checks equal to GSA level to represent decrease in buoyancy?

Right, that was the issue... There was a sequence where the hero was taking off his chain shirt to jump into a pool to chase an aquatic troll, and the DM said, "does he really need to take off his armor? How can he swim anyway? He's made of metal..."

Got me wondering about it... If there are penalties like this they should be spelled out in advance, and there should be a benefit to balance those penalties in my opinion.

If his weight is increasing this could cause issues for crossing bridges, tight rope walking, etc, but at the same time it could be beneficial when faced with a bull rush, or in some way should benefit his ability to anchor a rope or some such...

Generally speaking it seems more likely that the hero's weight isn't changing, just what he's composed of, but that seems to fly in the face of the other benefits he is gaining due to this change.

Just wondered if anyone else had dealt with this issue in the past, or if there were official rulings associated with GSA changes.

How about increasing based on a factor of class lvl in GSA. Say class lvl*.10*weight of star metal*normal weight

Anyone have stats for weight and such of star metal?

i don't see why star metal cant be a metal that just happens to have human flesh like properties... such as flesh like mass? would help explain how it can be used in this manner.

anyway... in order to assume they would sink you have to assume its heavy/non floaty.

in order to assume it increases weight, one must assume its a heavy metal.

so yeah you cant
