| aka_tarquin08-16-07, 11:29 PM | I don't think so. Bear's Endurance is a bonus to your score, whereas the cost of Hellfire Blast is damage to your actual ability score. The same would apply if you were wearing Constitution-boosting items. My two cents, in any case. |
| StevenO08-16-07, 11:59 PM | Oh my yes. If you wanted you could definitely burn CON while under the effects of a Bear's Endurance. You forgot that once the boosting effect ends your CON drops than may points? Too bad, now your dead or soon will be and Hell can collect its next soul. Morale: Don't forget that (almost?) all stat boost push a stat up so much but always bring them back down that much when the effect ends. While these effects don't last forever they are NOT like temporary hp which some thing grant that are removed first but are instead like the temporary hp boost a CON increase will give that are all lost when the increased CON score is. |
| Salla08-17-07, 12:40 AM | Once the Bear's Endurance wears off, you'll lose those 4 points of CON ... which could suck a lot. :) What you could do is, at 9th level, take the Shape Soulmeld feat from Magic of Incarnum to get Strongheart Vest, which gives you 1 point of resistance to ability damage. You're not immune to the Con damage, it's just not enough to actually hurt you (much as, say, 5 points of Fire Resistance doesn't mean you're immune to fire). |
| nighttree08-17-07, 12:58 AM | Incarnum based stuff is not allowed in our setting. I'm aware of the Binder trick....but even that is a bit of a stretch for our setting, so I was looking at other methods to recover faster from the con drop. Mind over Body feat seemed good, until it occured to me that with the Con drop.....the bonus would probably be gone :( I will have to persue the "Faster Healing" feat (from Complete Warrior) and see what I can do with that. |
| lord_xarallon08-18-07, 08:44 AM | There is a feat in Complete Mage that allows you to drink a potion but delay its effect for one hour. Activating is a swift action. Use it with a potion of lesser restoration. |

Use it with a potion of lesser restoration. I'm actually thinking of having him go Ur-Priest/Eldritch Disciple, so he will be able to cast restoration on himself. |
| StevenO08-18-07, 05:43 PM | I've looked at Warlock/Ur-Priest/Eldritch Disciple. While I like the potential to one problem is meeting the Ur-Priest's +3 FOR save prereq' in a timely manner. If the Hellfire Warlock has a good Fort save it may be possible to get the combo working early otherwise you're looking at Warlock9/ Ur-Priest 2 before entering Eldritch Disciple. I guess the three levels of Hellfire could replace three levels of Warlock. |
| nighttree08-19-07, 11:46 AM | That's what I'm struggeling with now  I have looked at doing a couple of levels of fighter, but I really hate loosing the levels of warlock. |
| StevenO08-19-07, 05:36 PM | I've bit the bullet and decided that if I'm going for the Warlock/Ur-Priest/ED combo I'd take the invoker level hit and take that warrior level for the +2 Fort save. It is tricky but Warlock4/Ftr1 can get into Ur-Priest and after two level go into Eldritch Disciple. I wouldn't quite finish out ED (going for 8 levels which is UrPriest 9 casting) and then take four more levels of Warlock and a dip into Dragonslayer. At 20th that give you a +15 BAB, Invocations at 17th level, and casting as a 9th level Ur-Priest. You'd need a Wis 28 to get a 9th level spell but even an 18 will let you use most of your spellcasting. |
| nighttree08-20-07, 10:32 AM | I have been looking into "best bang for my buck" if I have to take a level just to get my fort save up.....in the running are. Fighter: Get's the fort save where I need it, + a bonus feat. Dusckblade: Fort save, Armored casting, and a few arcane spells......could be workable. Factotum: Fort save where I need it, high skill points, Cunning insight, Cunning Knowledge, Trapfinding, so far this is looking like the winner to me.....If I can "spare" the feat slots to get a few "Font of insperastion" I can really make use of the Factotum abilities even with a one level dip. The increased skill points and range fit the "flavor" of a Hellbreds "residual memories"........looks like a good trade of for 1 level of Warlock. Any other suggestions I should consider (remember no Psionic/Incarnum). |
| StevenO08-20-07, 12:58 PM | After a little more thinking the best way for the Warlock to qualify for Ur-Priest may be using the Dragonslayer (Draconomicon). You can qualify for the Slayer at Warlock 7 (I'd still add Warlock 8 at some point) and the prereqs wouldn't even be so hard because you already need Iron Will. That one level gets you a +1 BAB, +2 Fort and Will, Aura of Courage, and +1 level spellcasting (or invocation use in this case) which will easily let you qualify for Ur-Priest. Warlock8/Dragonslayer1/Ur-Priest2/Eldritch Disciple 9 would give you full Ur-Priest casting, 18 levels of invocation and a +14 BAB; not too bad. |
| nighttree08-20-07, 10:28 PM | Except that I'm into Ur Priest by 6th using the Factotum :D 1st: Factotum 2nd through 5th: Warlock 6th & 7th: Ur Priest 8th & 9th: Eldritch Disciple 10th through 12th: Hellfire Warlock 13th through 20th Eldritch Disciple Finnaly.... EB and Invocations of a 17th level Warlock, spell casting of a 10th level Ur Priest (which is 9th level spells, although not as many as a Cleric), Hellfire goodness (which I can counter the Con damage with restoration spells and the "Faster Healing" feat), Extra turning feat, to give me more uses of "Gift of the Divine Patron", "Augment Healing" feat to make those restoration spells really count, and a bit of a bonus to attack rolls from the Factotum abilities....:D |
