Help and don't hate me [Archive] - Wizards Community

i want a fighter/caster or caster/fighter prc
i'm playing a role base game so the numbers don't matter so much so i'm playing a tactical fighter

so the two questions ... what prc's and do i take Socerer or Wiz??

Ones i know of but would still like a recommendation
Eldricth knight
Spellsword
Phatom Knight(heard of this one haven't read anything about it)
Abjarcation Champion

It would also help if you referenced e.g Spellsword CW

03-22-07, 04:45 AM If you're playing an elf you may wish to consider Bladesinger from complete warrior.

I'm not sure what the thoughts on the board are about this class, but it seems pretty cool from a flavour point of view.

03-22-07, 06:31 AM Bladesinger is one of those 'flavour-heavy' classes, in that it has flavour and no power at all. Seriously, it kills your casting dead, has HIDEOUS entry prereqs for not that much of anything, really.

Abjurant Champion gets my vote, followed by Eldritch Knight. Spellsword is a one-level dip at most. Dunno Phantom Knight at all.

As for the wizard vs. sorcerer question, I vote wizard. Flexibility and freedom to have a large range of spells is much better than casting more of them.

EK (DMG): eh, quite solid imo. 1 caster level loss, full BAB, low-ish prerequisites, although the low HD and lack of extras can be a bit dull. IMO get this one after taking another PrC at lower levels

PKnight (Eberron? It's in an article on the site): kind of like the EK, only with a few extra abilities. Go for it if the DM allows it and it fits with your theme.

Abjurant Champion (CMage) Oh boy, about as good as it gets except for the poor feat involved. One of the simplest builds is to get AC first, then go into Eldritch Knight (afaik AC gives you the necessary martial weapon proficiencies). The empowered shield spell is insane.

Dragonslayer (Draconomicon): Full BAB, partial progression with a spell level at lvl 1. If you meet the prerequisites and can cast spells, 1 level of that can be a good way to qualify for Eldritch Knight. Otherwise, it makes for a tough and hardy "gish", and the DR/ER can be quite handy.

Here are some other ideas:
- Raumathari Battlemage (UEast): okay, let's start with the bad parts: medium BAB and a very poor HD, and some weird feats involved. However, aside from that it can be very good if you already have a solid attack/HP base, as it provides a few powerful abilities in melee casting. It's more of a caster than a warrior. Faerun-based, imo adaptable.
- Master of the Yuirwood (UEast): Medium BAB and two ranger-ish feats (the second - alertness - you'll probably have to pay for) are the main problem here. However, you get full spell progression and some decent abilities - at first. Later ones can be very useful, but you need to check with the DM if they can apply to the campaign. Faerun-based, imo hard to adapt.
- Green Star Adept (CArcane): medium BAB might seem weird, but you get the strength to compensate, and the natural armor makes up for the dexterity. It's quite weird, but I think you could try it.

As for what casters to use, it depends on which you prefer playing. Wizards have an easier time entering the classes because of their higher number of skill points total and more feats, imo.

You are right, the Bladesinger is pretty cool. Let's face it an elf Bladesinger is the epitome of DND style.

Classes like EK, AC, and Spellsword stuff a bunch of meaningless crunch into a hollow shell of a class.
