| dygon47004-16-07, 01:21 AM | sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this. my dm just let me review his bbeg who is a gaurdian of some sort. basicly its a 9monk/1souleater(BoVD) pixie. i overlooked it and it seems utterly rediculus. now addmitidly my party consists of mostly fighter types plus a wiz so this is going to pose quit the challenge esspecially because i think he got his ac up to 35+ with items. not exactly sure but i think like 34dex(12), and 26wis(8),+other ac items. not to mention crazy saves for being monk. i have a couple of questions to start out with 1. is the energy drain(su) available on a monks fist with flurry of blows? 2. if so would every hit bestow neg level 3. would these require fort saves 24 hrs later or loose permanently 4. any creative way to neutrilize Imp Invis from pixie? 5. is this entirely leagel, baring alignment from pixe(CN) oh, and sorry if this is wrong place to post, seemed appropriate though |
| Jaxgaret04-16-07, 07:52 PM | 5. is this entirely leagel, baring alignment from pixe(CN) How could a Soul Eater possibly be non-Evil? They. Eat. Souls. Read the fluff text. They're basically as Evil as it gets, according to that. Also, it seems that their Energy Drain is a special Supernatural attack that, while it doesn't explicitly say so, is a Touch Attack that takes a Standard Action to use. If so, then no combining with Flurry of Blows. |
| dygon47004-18-07, 03:49 AM | my dm basicly said something along the lines of turining a pixie away from its natural alignment something akin to helm of opposite allignment. anyway, so using the energy drain is a standard action, any place you can point me to so my dm doesn't abuse this against us. yes, i know he's the dm and he can do what he wants but he usually bends rules not break them (note evil pixie). |

And since there is no listed time/save, it depends on your DM. If he treat it like a normal MM energy drain you'll get a save based on the pixie's CON after 24 hours. If he treats by the rules given for the PrC, you don't. 4. Fairy fire, see invisiblity, true seeing, lantern of revealing (Wonderous item from the DMG). For core methods, but I'd also suggest your wizard stock up on illusions like mirror image and AoE spells, especially ones like burst of flame (I think is the name, its from CA, and bascially deals fire damage to everything in 5-10 ft of the caster. Useful for burning an invisible opponent who needs to get close to deliver a kill) 5) If the DM says it is, it is. But then I've never been sure whether the evil requirement is really needed (I said requirement note, theres no doubt using the powers is evil), since by the fluff the class is either traded or forced on dying beings, so they continue to live, but have to feed on souls. Not exactly an evil requirement, though the other possible listed way is definately evil required, and probablyt he entire source of the prereq. In other words depending on the nature of the pixie, yes or no, but it doesn't matter on that since you're DM has the ability to say: This is legal (And anyway the souleater thing is probably a case of 'closest to effect wanted'.). |

Open up your BoVD and read the entry again, because you are a bit mistaken as to what it says. According to the flavor text, Soul Eaters are evil incarnate, period. While I agree that the flavor text can be ignored at the DM's discretion, that does not change what the flavor text actually says. Also, on the subject of it working in conjunction with Flurry of Blows; why not make a Thri-Kreen Monk Soul Eater, then? Or a Hydra Monk Soul Eater. Pretty much anything will die after one full round attack, if the ability works that way. |

Mine says about how the souleater is a vile and evil being since it devours souls to feed its power. Not evil incarnate. What I meant is this therefore: If you have this power placed on you, by USING it you would be performing an evil act, even if your own self is on the line (assuming you go with the idea of they must feed on souls, since nothing states they have to, beyond getting stuff out of the PrC) since you condemn a soul to damnation or oblivion etc. But this does not make you evil incarnate, just evil due to what part of the being you feed off. And it is true fluff does not have to be used, but it gives a very good idea for reasons behind the crunch - Such as why an Ur-priest is a evil prereq (You probably know of the arguments there, frequently from people who seem to be working without thr context of the class, since they have CD, instead of BOVD). As for everything dying if a monk gets to use souleater by my idea, yes this is true. But on the otherhand they still have to get stuck in the fight(The problem is technically as lethal as any spellcaster with a touch extending spell.). While this isn't as much as a problem for a flying invisible pixie, the same could be said of a pixie warlock but the warlock isn't going to be as easy to find. |

I didn't mean that they were literally Evil Incarnate. I meant evil incarnate. Embodied in human form; personified: a villain who is evil incarnate. Twisted and evil - even by the standards of creatures such as beholders, lamias, and mind flayers - the soul eater is feared by all creatures that live. That sounds pretty evil to me when mind flayers are looking at you and are like "wow, that guy is ****ing EVIL". As for the second section of your post, it is similar to a caster with a SoD spell. But a character targeted by a SoD gets a save against it, plus SR usually. A character full attacked by a Thri-Kreen Monk Soul Eater has to avoid 15-20 Touch Attacks that each deal 2 negative levels. That's pretty much death for anyone, no save. |
