My DM mentioned that we could create our own prestige classes to aspire toward so long as he approves of their abilities and whatnot for his campaign. After applying a nickname to me last night, I was inspired to make a prestige class based upon it... I'm still working on the name.
The nickname that I was given was "The Mathemagician".
I'm having some trouble thinking of what the abilities would be. Maybe he could hit all creatures with a HD total divisible by a number of his choosing with a certain spell... or even cast a spell but grant immunity to creatures with an XP Level of a particular multiple.

I'm asking for help because I think that this can be a VERY interesting class if it ends up going the perfect route. I figure the more people I get pondering on it with me, the better chances we have of doing something cool with it.

And by all means, if this idea has actually been employed already, just tell me which D&D book it's in, I'm willing to buy out :D

I'm not sure if a D&D class has been made, but you can just look into the abilities that a Final Fantasy Tactics Calculator can do.

I am actually a Math major in college right now, and alot of what we do is dealing with Geometry, there is a Geometer from Complete Arcane that might help you get some ideas, and maybe through in some of the Wild mage from the same book to get a feel for variables, and lastly dont forget to add some flavor, Goodluck Id love to see what your final prestige looks like

Notice: THIS IS FOR A SPELLCASTER...

He should have a high will save, but low fortitude and reflex. A d4 of hit points.

Requirements: A high intelligence and maybe a certain number of ranks in Profession (Mathamatician).

Some Abilities:

X + Y?: All damage done with spells is increased by 1 hit die. So a 5d6 fireball would become a 5d8 fireball.

Heightened Accuracy: All of his spells have a +2 to hit and a +3 added to the saves.

X - Y?: All damage done to you is decreased by 1 hit die. So a 5d6 firebal would do 5d4 damage to you.

Decreased Accuracy: All of his opponent's spells have a -4 to hit.

Notice2: He would only have four very powerful abilities over 10 levels. Maybe 1st, 5th, and 10th?

Hey guys, thanks! These are all great ideas! Joss, I actually got the nickname from the DM because he found out I was majoring in Math/Physics :D glad to meet another person interested in it. Ultima, those ideas are awesome, and I will definitely be employing them in my design. Kuro, I checked out the Calculator, and that distribute ability gave me an idea, but I switched it so that any spell damage leftover from killing a monster will automatically be divided amongst the remaining monsters. For example, if there is an encounter with 5 hostile creatures and you do... let's say 20 damage (with a spell... I dunno... fireball?) to a creature that had 12 HP left, the remaining 8 damage would end up inflicting 2 damage on each of the remaining 4 creatures.

When I've got it all together, that would be much appreciated, Ultima... as well as anyone else.
