Help on New Prestige Class! [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-31-07, 10:06 PM Ok so Naruto (my favorite anime show) gave me an insperation to create a new ninja class. The only problem is that I don't know how to create a plan to seperate the three forms of attacking: Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu.

Name of PrC: Kohana Ninja

My Thoughts: My thoughts are that every level you gain as a KN (Kohana Ninja) you will also be given a sub-level in either Taijutsu, Jinjutsu, or Genjutsu. New levels in these sub-classes will give the KN new abilities and improved stats. Of course you will still gain new abilities and stat increases in the KN PrC.

Here is a sample level chart for Taijutsu (Levels 1-5):

Level 1: Improved Body (Strength and Constitution raised by 1)
Level 2: Double Punch (Able to punch twice in one turn)
Level 3: Increased Pressure (All unarmed attacks gain +1 to damage)
Level 4: Focus Punch (Punch deals double damage)
Level 5: Quickened Senses (Dexterity raised by 1)

Please help me :)

07-31-07, 11:48 PM So, I love Naruto as well (prefer the Manga) but let me say, Naruto characters are too powerful for D&D.

A Naruto based class will either be vastly overpowered for a D&D game, or would be way underpowered to represent a Naruto Character.

I mean, by the point I got up to in the manga, Naruto and Sasuke could summon GARGANTUAN possibly COLOSSAL sized monsters as a spell like ability.

That aside, if you REALLY want to try, get a copy of Tome of Battle, because I think that would be the best system.

Make martial Disciplines for each subclass, and them give them a 3/4ths BAB, High Reflex Save, and swordsage like number of maneuvers.
Add a meditation skill, make it the key skill for their disciplines.
Let them take a full-round action to make a Meditation check (to focus their Ki/Chi) to recover their maneuvers.

08-01-07, 11:05 PM What about an extremly high powered campaign? What is a huge toad vs. a person who can K.O. you with a single spell? Also what if I gave the most powerful summons restrictions and or limits.

For example, to summon the toad you must give up 5 hit points (that cannot be restored). Unless people will go around with 1-4 hit points, they won't use this " power" all the time.

Also, could someone help me with a good amount of damage for the Rasangen and the big Rasengan. I don't want it just to do 1d6 damage per level or a specific amount of damage. I want something intresting for this so it will compel people to choose this class.

Here are some damage formulas I need:

~Rasengan
~Big Rasengan
~Chidori
~Fire ball
~Fire stream

08-02-07, 12:46 AM Yeah Naruto is a hard one to do justice without tipping the scale one way or the other. I think to get a good base your probally looking at a decent meshing of mechanics.

the Tome of Battle, i agree is a good start. A few of the jutsu could be pretty well recreated with existing manuvers.

A second source I would look into would be Psionics. Obviously youd have to change it alot, but in general I would look at the way power points function, as chakra management is a key factor to keep in mind, and seems certainly more limited than the martial system from ToB is, atleast by itself.

In alot of ways the Naruto shinobi have alot more incommon with D&D casters mechanicaly than its warriors.

As far as classes go, I would likely approach it as 4 classes, 1 a core and 3 "semi PrCs". The core is the base shinobi, with access to all 3 types of jutsu. The class would go a full 20 levels, retaining access to all three types, but gaining no real benefits to any of them, this class alone is your rounded basic ninja.

Then the branch classes would be able to begin at level 6. The first 5 levels being the "Academy" levels, and they now begin to focus on their own strengths. The branch classes wouldnt loose access to the other jutsu, but instead gain advantages in the theme of the chosen path.
Taijutsu would get perhaps a few fighter feats, and weapon/hand to hand bonuses. Jinjutsu would likely gain meta-magic style abilities, option for elemental focus and that type of thing. Genjutsu would create stronger illusions and so forth.

I do imagine that each type of jutsu however, would have a few jutsu only available to the focusing class.

Just some ideas ive thought over myself.

The Rasengans I would base on Defenstrating Sphere from complete arcane, making it a melee touch, and changing the "knock up" to a "knock back" and you are likely on the right track.

Chidori, as I picture it is a melee touch attack that would do d6/level piercing+STR mod, and ignore hardness and damage resistance.

Anyway, I have a few suggestions. One is to get ideas from this thread:

Which is about psionic naruto builds. Some others are these classes that are on the boards, but I don't have links to them(one is based on non-anime shinobi i think, while the other is a bit more naruto based).

Third, I would help you with a prc/class, but I've been a bit busy lately, so maybe in the near future.

08-02-07, 03:56 PM well the most obvious thing for fireball and fire stream is to adopt the fireball spell and treat caster level as konoha ninja level use it as a spell-like ability for 2D4 times per day+1 per level of k ninja
for fire stream use an adaptation of the (line) fire breath weapon used by dragons 1D4 times a day+1 per 2 levels of k. ninja dealing 5d6 per 5 levels of k ninja
the other attacks are already covered

08-02-07, 06:29 PM There's really not too much of a need for a Naruto-based PrC, many different people have come up with Shinobi base classes based off of Naruto, as well as some Psionic builds that are based off of Naruto.

08-03-07, 09:29 PM in all honesty sure naruto is popular but seriously all he does is make up foreign words to meerly absorb the american culture into another frenzied obsession of imported goods from japan.
OMG is it seriously worth everyone's time as to make it all based upon a petty marketing ploy?
