Just saw the flick, and had been thinking about a spear/shield combo character anyway...anyway, here it is. Please let me know what you think!! Cheers!!

Spartan (SpearShield)

Prerequisites:
Lawful
BaB: +6/+1
Feats: Weapon Focus Short Spear, Two Weapon Fighting, Formation Expert (CW), Improved Shield Bash
Special: Must be proficient with heavy shields and have at least 36 hit points.

Class Abilities:

Hit Points: d12

Full BAB! Fort saves good. Reflex and Will slow.

Skills 2/level: Climb, Craft, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (local or history), Ride, Sense Motive, Swim

1 Shielding; Embrace the Burden
2 Spear Specialization
3 Heavy Shield Formation; Spartan’s Shield +1 AC
4 Shield Charge
5 Spartan’s Shield: Damage Reduction
6 Spartan’s Shield +2 AC
7 Improved Shield Charge
8 Hurl and Hustle
9 Spartan’s Shield +3 AC
10 Shield Slam

(*All abilities apply only when lightly (or less) armored and unencumbered. And, only when armed with heavy shield and shortspear.*)

Shielding: The Spartans are the masters of the shield and protecting each other’s backs. Your shield grants an adjacent ally to your right a +2 cover bonus to AC. This stacks with the bonus gained from Formation Expert if both apply.

Embrace the Burden: Your shield is a BIG part of your life. When attacking two handed, with spear and shield, you may treat even a heavy shield as a light weapon.

Spear Specialization: All the dedication starts paying off. You are +2 to damage on all attacks made with your spear. You may also attack with the blunt end of the spear, as a bludgeoning weapon that deals d6 damage, as a light weapon in your off hand.

Spartan’s Shield: Starting at 3rd level, the Spartan gets a competence bonus to his shield’s AC equal to one for every three levels he has in this class (1 at 3rd; 2 at 6th; 3 at 9th). Furthermore, when shielding, he can choose to apply this bonus to his ally instead. You can change who receives the bonus once per round on your turn. At 5th level, your toughness thickens and your shield quickens; You gain damage reduction/adamantine equal to one half your level in this class.

Shield Charge: The feat from CW. If you damage an opponent with your shield as part of a charge action, you get a free trip attempt against that opponent. They do not get a chance to trip you if it fails. If the character already has Shield Charge they can choose any other feat that they qualify for from the fighter’s list that can be used with shield or spear.

Improved Shield Charge: You gain a +4 competence bonus on your trip attempt. If you succeed, you get a free attack with your spear at the now prone opponent (+4 attack).

Shield Slam: Feat from CW. As a full round action, or as part of your charge, you can slam your shield into an opponent. If this attack does damage, that opponent must make a Fortitude save (DC = ½ character level + STR) or be dazed for one round, until just before your next action. If the character already has Shield Slam they can choose any other feat from the fighter’s list that can be used with shield or spear.

Hurl: If you move at least 20’ prior to throwing, the range increment for your spear doubles.

Hustle: Your swift jabbing attacks with your spear essentially, extend your reach. Your shortspear has reach as if it were a longspear.

New Tactical Feat??? Heavy Shield Formation

BAB +6; Improved Shield Bash; Proficiency with heavy shield.

Turtle Shell: You can organize your allies with heavy shields into a nearly impenetrable unit. If six or more allies with shields will listen to orders, you can all have total cover. You can’t attack while using this formation except to set a spear against a charge, and, since you can’t see your opponent coming, you have a 50% miss chance, as if he was invisible.

My Brother’s Back: When you and an ally are adjacent and facing opposite directions you can watch each other’s backs, protecting them with your shield and preventing others from flanking them.

Shield Shove: This maneuver starts as a Bull rush attempt. Since it is made with your shield, you do not provoke an AoO. If you succeed at pushing your opponent back, you do not follow, instead stepping back, and letting you opponent’s momentum lead him right to your spear. You can make one attack that deals double damage, as if you had set your spear against a charge.

Here is a short intro:

Typically calling hot climes home, the Spartan’s choice of light armor and heavy shield stems from common sense. The cooler clothing allows them to fight harder and longer than more heavily armed men. While a single Spartan is indeed a challenge, they are at their best when fighting in a formation, surrounded by their brethren. Constant, brutal practice from the time they can barely heft a short sword hones their fighting prowess, toughens them body and soul, and turns a Phalanx of them into a well oiled fighting machine.

There's got to be someone out there who liked the movie...? Am I too far off?

Ok a few suggestions:
1. +5 on constitution checks to continue yelling FOOOOOR SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTTTAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAA!!! for obscene amounts of time.
2. Lose all class feature if they wear any armor that covers their perfectly sculpted pecs and abs.
3. Whatever the weather they must continue to wear their FABULOUS capes or they lose their class abilities
4. -5 of perform (acting) checks
5. +5 on damage rolls against brown and black people (all the persians in the movie are brown and black and all the spartans are white)
But seriously enough making fun of the movie, you did good job so far, but I'd add something for bullrush, Intimidate, Maybe some morale abilities, and some sort of cool ability at level 10 like pluses to physical stats or spell like abilities. And I would also take off the knowledge, ride, sense motive, and handle animal skills of their list, they fight on foot, don't have great social skills, and why would they know history?

I think the skills need a little more looking at.. Also might want to consider the Endurance feat as a requirement if you go by what Leonidas had to go through when they threw him out in the wild.

Also maybe instead of the Embrace the Burden thing they can gain the Agile Shield Fighter feat (PH2) for free or make it a prereq.. I think just limiting them to spears wouldn't do them justice given how often they also fought with their swords. So if you gave them that, I'd throw out TWF as a prereq.
