| capnwoodrow06-07-07, 06:18 PM | So I was looking at the Arcane Archer and I really love the core of the class, but I hate how it translates mechanically (esp. the loss of spellcasting) - so I figured I would add a homebrew PrC to my world setting that attempts to emulate that class. Thanks for taking a look! Dahascian Bowman "Never again will I look upon my homeland and watch it burn. We will rain down destruction upon all those who march against us." -Gaereth, Dahascian Bowman Drawing upon both their natural skills with bow and arrow and the strong magical ties of their ancestors, the warriors of Dahascia have developed a powerful new weapon to harry their enemies. Becoming a Bowman: This class is designed for Fighter/Arcanist combinations, however rangers/arcanists are often drawn to becoming bowmen as well. A warlock who can mimic second level spells with his invocations may also pursue this class with some cross training. Entry Requirements Base Attack: +4 Spellcasting: Capable of casting 2nd level arcane spells Feats: Point Blank shot, Weapon focus (longbow or shortbow) Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 5 ranks, spot 2 ranks Hit die d8 skill points per level: 2 + Int mod. BAB F R W Special 1. +1 +2 +0 +0 farshot (+25), spell arrow (2nd) 2. +2 +3 +0 +0 arrow trick 3. +3 +3 +1 +1 Hawksight 4. +4 +4 +1 +1 ranged atk +1, spell arrow (3rd) 5. +5 +4 +1 +1 arrow trick 6. +6 +5 +2 +2 farshot (+50), ranged atk +2 7. +7 +5 +2 +2 arrow trick 8. +8 +6 +2 +2 ranged atk +3, spell arrow (4th) 9. +9 +6 +3 +3 arrow trick 10. +10 +7 +3 +3 ranged atk +4, spell arrow (5th) Class Features Proficiencies: A Bowman gains no additional proficienies. Spells/Invocations per day: A Bowman gains +1 cl at every level except 2nd and 9th. Farshot (ex): At first level a Bowman adds 25 feet to the range increment of any bow he uses. This bonus increases to 50 feet at 6th level. Eldritch Arrow (su): Starting at first level a Dahascian bowman learns how to draw upon his arcane abilities to enhance his already lethal skills - he draws a spell or invocation of 2nd level or lower into an arrow and then fires it. Casting the spell and firing the arrow is a standard action. The arrow deals damage as normal in addition to affecting the target with the spell stored within it. The eldritch arrow must be fired in the round it is cast or the effect is wasted. An eldritch arrow is treated as a magic weapon with an enhacement bonus equal to the level of the spell stored within it. Spells with a range of Personal cannot be cast into eldritch arrows. A spell with an area of effect is centered wherever the arrow hits. At 4th level a Bowman may use any spell/invocation of 3rd level or lower. At 8th level a Bowman may use any spell/invocation of 4th level or lower. At 10th level a Bowman may use any spell/invocation of 5th level or lower. Arrow Trick (ex): As he becomes more comfortable with his weapon of choice the Bowman learns certain "tricks" to augment him in battle. Using an arrow trick is a free action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Unless otherwise stated, only one arrow trick can be used a round. Arrow tricks can be combined with eldritch arrows if the Bowman takes a full round action to cast and fire the arrow. - Unnerving Shot - the Bowman looses an arrow that whistles past the targets ear, skims the top of its head, lands directly in front of it, or otherwise unsettles him. The target must make a will save (DC 10+1/2 class level+Cha modifier) or become shaken for the rest of the encounter. This ability is usable 3/day + 1 per arrow trick the Bowman possesses. This is a mind-affecting fear effect. - True Shot - the Bowman gains a sixth sense when directing his fire. He can hit oppenents with incredible accuracy. The Bowman may ignore any miss chance or concealment the target has. This ability is usable 2/day + 1 per every 2 arrow tricks the Bowman possesses. - Chain Shot - min. level 5th - the Bowman uses seemingly impossible angles and arcs of fire to strike multiple targets with a single shot. The Bowman makes two seperate attack rolls against two targets no more than 15 ft. apart - if they are both successful the arrow bounces to the second target. The second target takes 1/2 the damage of the first arrow (rounded down). This abillity is usable 1/day. - Piercing Shot - the Bowman's innate sense of his own magical prowress allows him to bypass an enemies magical defense. The Bowman's shot ignores ten points of the opponents spell resistance. This ability is usable 1/day + 1 per 2 arrow tricks the bowman possesses. - Deadly Shot - min. level 9th - the Bowman has become a death dealer with his bow. If his shot hits, it is an automatic critical. This abillity is usable 1/day. Hawksight: The Bowman gains a +2 bonus on spot, search, and survival checks. This is my first time trying to design a PrC. Any thoughts? I'm trying to put together another arrow trick or two for more variety. |

| Molot06-09-07, 02:23 PM | bump nothing? Nothing, for two reasons: Thread's title does not say a thing about what's inside. We have tons of homebrew stuff here, so people only clicks on what's interesting for them. Title of your thread will not make arcane lovers nor bow lovers interested, don't you think? You've actually rewrite ye good ol' Arcane Archer. What'd you expected? |

| sword_war44406-11-07, 02:00 PM | It feel a bit over powered to me. I do not know why. Well anyway gow about give it a smaller caster level total. Like at level 2, 6,9 or 3,6,9 they do not gain it. |
