I don't think it's so much the Hurler itself. More so, someone figured out how to combine it with the Warhulk to throw planets. Something like that.

Miniatures Handbook, if I recall. I haven't gotten a good look myself so I can't exactly say how the whole thing comes together... I do know that the Warhulk gets +2 Strength per level, that may be a part of it.

Yeah that might be it... tied in with the ability that lets you throw up to a medium load and that could be devistating...

War Hulk is in Miniature's Handbook.

However, the last HH build I saw didn't have any levels in War Hulk. It was a half-dragon tauric brown bear/sun elf, hopped up on fire wine. Here's the thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=142565), in case you're interested. I stopped reading around page 16, but it's probably the funniest thread I've seen on the board.

What's broken about the Hulking Hurler is that it deals damage based on your medium load, and encumberance scales geometrically rather than linearly.

Its broken because; with enough splat books you can do anything.

Its not something thats actually supposed to be played. Its like Pun Pun or the Omnificer. Its a mostly theoretical build.

I will never understand why anyone in their right mind would actually try to play one of these creations.

Then you combine that with the Complete Warrior rules for Improved Weapon Damage, and there you go. Hulk smash. :)

A thirst for power? A mindset that DnD is a competition that can be won? A cruel way to get revenge on a DM? I dunno, just theorizing.

Actually, War Hulk and Hulking Hurler make sense together thematically. Both cater to large and strong creatures who basically want to be Hulks on the battle field.

It is not that broken really. Not when you consider that the CO boards have found a way to do the very same thing even without said prc...;)

The only thing you need to do to fix the hulking hurler is to fix that encumbrance table, which is just wrong.

You will also need the fixed the table for damage on throwing improvised items at the back of the CW.:D

Well there's the matter of adjucating that kind of thing. It's not broken so much as it has the potential for abuse. Almost nobody can within the bounds of a real game carry around planets to throw at people--and even fewer DMs would let that fly. The potential to do a lot of damage exists. It's all a matter of reigning in that potential without smacking things with the banhammer, which is just silly.

I generally just let my players set the bar for power level, and adjust NPCs classes and feat selection accordingly. As a player I try hang around the general power level of the group, so that everybody has fun.

If your DM/group says "No Hulking Hurler!" because they feel it's broken, just explain -your- intentions.

I actually had a guy who played that combination. It was a low-magic game, so he never got his hands on a 6 foot wide iridum orkish shot-put of throwing and returning. (I'm not making that up, that's from the CharOp boards. I love those guys) His damage was limited by what he had around to toss at people, so not that bad really. He usually stuck to enemies, not that tossing a 300 pound Orc in spiked plate armor at someone doesn't sting.

In the end, he did damage about on par with the rogue, with the occasional explosion of "I pick up the chieftain's Dire Rhino and toss it through the breastworks."

As a GM, I thought it was fun, but I can be a little crazy.

smacking things with the banhammer

Man, I want one of these. First, I'd track down Uwe Bowl, then, off to Washington...
