Elves have Arcane Archers, who mix the elven skills of archery and magic to protect their homelands. Gnomes have Gnome Tricksters, highly skilled individuals in the gnome community who use trickery and illusions to gain the upperhand in a fight. Requirements To qualify to become a Gnome Trickster, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria. Race: Gnome Skills: Bluff 8 ranks, Hide 4 ranks, Knowledge (Arcana) 2 ranks, Sleight of Hand 2 ranks. Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge HD: d6 Attack Fort Ref Will Level Bonus Save Save Save Special 1st +0 +0 +2 +2 Slippery, Belittle, Trapfinding 2nd +1 +1 +3 +3 Mimicry, Improved Bluff, Stand Tall 3rd +2 +1 +3 +3 Bonus Ability, Sidestep Charge 4th +3 +1 +4 +4 Illusion Mastery, Opportunist 5th +3 +1 +4 +4 Duck and Weave +1 6th +4 +2 +5 +5 Bonus Ability 7th +5 +2 +5 +5 Evasion 8th +6 +2 +6 +6 Illusion Mastery 9th +6 +3 +6 +6 Bonus Ability 10th +7 +3 +7 +7 Duck and Weave +2, Lucky Spells Per Day 1 2 3 4 1. 0 - - - 2. 1 - - - 3. 2 0 - - 4. 3 1 - - 5. 3 2 0 - 6. 3 3 1 - 7. 3 3 2 0 8. 3 3 3 1 9. 3 3 3 2 10. 3 3 3 3 Spells Known 1 2 3 4 1. 2 - - - 2. 3 - - - 3. 3 2 - - 4. 4 3 - - 5. 4 3 2 - 6. 4 4 3 - 7. 4 4 3 2 8. 4 4 4 3 9. 4 4 4 3 10. 4 4 4 4 The gnome trickster's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disable Device (Int), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Forgery (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Open Lock (Int), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Spellcraft (Int), Tumble (Dex), and Use Magic Device (Cha). Skills: 6 + Int mod per level. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A gnome trickster is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the bolas, gnome hooked hammer, hand crossbow, longbow, longsword, net, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip. Gnome tricksters are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields). A gnome trickster can cast gnome trickster spells while wearing light armor and while using a shield without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, a gnome trickster wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclass gnome trickster still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes. Spells: A gnome trickster can spontaneously cast a small number of arcane spells. She gains bonus spells per day based on her charisma and casts spells like a bard does. She learns spells known from any spell on the wizard/sorcerer list, but only from the following schools: Conjuration, Enchantment, Illusion, and Transmutation. She may also choose to learn the following spells as gnome trickster spells: Confusion (lesser), Confusion (as a 3rd level spell), Dominate Person (as a 4th level spell), Glibness, Hideous Laughter (as a 1st level spell), Modify Memory, Sculpt Sound, Undetectable Alignment (as a 1st level spell). She may also choose to summon a Mustelidae on the list of the Summon Nature's Ally spells when casting Summon Monster. Slippery (Ex): A gnome trickster is adept at wriggling out of tricky situations and gets a +2 bonus to Escape Artist and Tumble checks. Belittle (Ex): A gnome trickster is skilled at the art of a well placed insult. As a move action a gnome trickster may make a bluff check opposed by the opponent's sense motive check. If the gnome trickster suceeds, the opponent takes a penalty on any attack roll, skill check, or caster level check made against the gnome trickster equal to the the gnome trickster's charisma bonus. This penalty lasts a number of rounds equal to the gnome trickster's class level. If the opponent's check fails by 10 or more, he loses his dexterity bonus to AC as though he had been feinted. This ability fails to work if the target can't comprehend the gnome trickster's language, has an intelligence score 3 or less, or has been belittled by the same gnome trickster in the last 24 hours. If the target is not a humanoid or monstrous humanoid, it gets a +4 bonus against this ability. Trapfinding: Due to a gnome's interest in all things mechanical, or perhaps not to be out-tricked by a kobold, a gnome trickster gains the trapfinding ability of the rogue class. Mimicry (Ex): A gnome trickster is adept at mundane forms of sound imitation and can mimic any voice or sound it has heard, anytime it likes. The will save to detect this ruse is equal to (10 + Class Level + Cha. modifier). Improved Bluff A gnome trickster can apply his knowledge of the con better to other areas. The synergy bonuses granted by having 5 or more ranks in bluff improve from +2 to +3. Stand Tall (Ex) A gnome trickster suffers no penalty for size when making intimidate checks and other creatures do not gain a bonus on intimidate based size against the gnome trickster. Bonus Ability A gnome trickster may choose one of the following abilities: +1 to an existing spellcasting level (other than gnome trickster). Improvement of Sudden Strike or Sneak attack by +1d6 (provided he has these abilities). Or a bonus feat from the following list: Improved Initiative, Mobility, Persuasive, Quick Draw, Spring Attack, Stealthy. Sidestep Charge A gnome trickster gains sidestep charge as a bonus feat. Illusion Mastery: A gnome trickster is a master of illusion magic. Starting at 4th level, a gnome trickster casts all illusion spells at +1 caster level (including the spell-like abilities granted by the gnome racial features). This increases to a +2 bonus to caster level at 8th level. Opportunist (Ex) Once per round, the gnome trickster can make an attack of opportunity against an opponent who has just been struck for damage in melee by another character. This attack counts as the gnome trickster attack of opportunity for that round. Even with the Combat Reflexes feat, the opportunist ability can't be used more than once per round. Duck and Weave A gnome trickster is adept at the tide and flow of combat, and knows when to duck and when to strike. A gnome tricksters gets a +1 insight bonus to all attacks of opportunity made by the gnome trickster and a +1 dodge bonus against all attacks of opportunity made against the gnome trickster. These bonuses increase to +2 each at 10th level. Evasion At 7th level, a gnome trickster gains the evasion ability. If she already has the evasion ability, she gains improved evasion instead. Lucky (Ex): You gain the favor of Garl Glittergold himself, you obtain the use of the Luck domain's granted ability. |

| Governator11-17-07, 09:36 PM | I like the concept, although never really played a Gnome at all, and I'm not really sure how balanced this PrC is. I just don't like seeing Brain Juice* go to waste. Although, quite frankly, I'd like to see a few more non-magical "tricks" up this PrC's sleeves. Instead of all these evasion abilities, how about giving them things like Dust in the Eyes (miss chance), Marbles (trip opponent), Look Over There (makes opponent look away, giving Gnome time to slip between his/her/it's legs and deliver a backstab/ what have you). *Mmm, Brain Juice. |
