Some of his abilities *3rd hand, death spiral* state that they have a range of 15ft. Now for a medium creature this makes perfect sense as a whips range is 15ft. However if we enlarge our character we gain natural reach 10ft, and the whip is a 15ft reach weapon on top of that. Firstly am I correctly inferring that if we double our base reach, we double the reach of our reach weapons? *so a longspear can hit 15-20ft, a spiked chain up to 20ft and a whip up to 30ft* If the above is true then would be it correct to infer that the Lasher PrC abilities were written with medium creatures in mind, so if a large creature took it it would be reasonable to state that they could use the abilities anywhere within their 30ft reach. Rather tahn 15ft. Im well aware that if you read it RAW it doesnt say this, so dont hit me with that crap. What I want to know is whether it would be unreasonable or not to infer that the "15ft" limitation was more poor wording than anything else and it should really say "within your reach *which for mediums is 15ft*. If we say its strictly 15 ft then it gets ridiclous. A colossal *or is it gargantuan?* creature has 30ft reach. If they were a lasher they would still be restricted to using their uber massive whip at 15ft, which is less than their natural reach. Basically I want to know if it would be reasonable and valid to "houserule" patch this rules hole from "15ft" to "within your whips reach" |

The only precedent I can find for a large whip-wielder is the Balor. The Balor entry says Space / Reach 10 ft / 10 ft (20 ft with +1 flaming whip). Based on that it sounds like the official rule is that a medium or small character with a whip has 15 ft of reach with it. A large or larger creature treats a whip as a conventional reach weapon (i.e. it just doubles their natural reach). You can logically support either method, though. |
