| Rhyvurg04-05-07, 04:24 AM | I am currently playing a goliath monk and am thinking about taking levels in kensai. The signature weapon class feature states that any weapon enhancement can be applied. Legally, this means that I can apply the sizeing ability from CA to increase the size of my monk's fists. But would something like that be a little to out there? I'm kind of looking foreward to making dive-bomb attacks with hands the size of horses. |
| UAMDB04-05-07, 11:42 AM | I dont know if it would work. If I remember correctly the Kensai ability only works on Masterwork items. Are your fist considered masterwork? I also do not know what the sizing ability does. i do not have the CA. But if it makes your fist one size larger, then I dont think it would stack with the Powerful build racial ability. Since it does not work with Monkey Grip. |
| MightyPotamus04-05-07, 11:56 AM | Kensai abilities can be used to enhance natural weapons. The FAQ says specifically that monks can take the inproved natural attack from the monster manual though, i would spend the feat on that and use kensai abilities for other things. |
| LordPendragon04-05-07, 12:02 PM | You could probably put sizing on your fists, but it wouldn't do much good. If I remember correctly, sizing automatically resizes the weapon to fit the wielder. Since your fists would already be sized to fit you, I don't think Sizing would allow them to be increased. |
| Magius_Rerecros04-05-07, 02:53 PM | Incorrect. Sizing allows the wielder to change the size category of their weapon as a standard action. |
| Neodymium04-05-07, 03:00 PM | I think this would make for an excellent use of the abilities! It's a pretty unique power that would really have your character stand out. I could totally see somebody like this in a martial arts/fantasy comic book or cartoon! Go for it. |

Thanks, I was not sure and I dont keep my books at work for many reasons. |
| SpoonyBard04-05-07, 09:15 PM | You forget something: Even with sizing, you still can only wield fists of your size without taking penalties! The sizing quality would let you go one size up for a -4 penalty (I believe), but after that they'd become unwieldy. |
| Magius_Rerecros04-05-07, 10:22 PM | Actually, going up one size means that you take a -2 penalty, and without monkey grip, you can only wield one weapon as a two handed weapon. Not sure how this would work for your situation, and at least I personally, would just drop it because it seems more trouble then its worth >_> |
| Archangel6204-05-07, 10:40 PM | But goliaths have powerful build...oh my this has the potential to get most bizzare... |
| Ariath Ska'Vhor04-06-07, 02:55 AM | I can just imagine a Goliath monk with fists about 4 times the size (in each dimension) with imp. natural attack and sizeing fists. But then again, monks can attack with basically any part of their body...so now I just picture him being really big. Not like a size catagory larger, but maybe really knobby and the biggest he can be for his size catagory. |
| Rhyvurg04-06-07, 04:00 PM | I got the idea from a cousin of mine who lives on the east coast. He made a goliath half-ogre barbarian/kensai/hulking hurler and gave his hands the sizing, throwing and returning abilities. My DM is very thankfull that I'm not as much of a powergamer as him. |
| Karzach04-06-07, 07:04 PM | thought half-ogre was a separate race, not a template? |
| SD04-06-07, 11:26 PM | I would allow this expressly because you described it as "making dive-bomb attacks with hands the size of horses." There's a level beyond "awesome", which is "stupid", and a level beyond that, which is "awesome". Guess which one that is. |
| Empiro04-07-07, 12:26 AM | Sizing on fists is bit strange, and returning even more so. A DM would be well within his rights to just say that those (and possibly other enhancements) can't be placed on unarmed strikes. |

A DM would be well within his rights to just say that those (and possibly other enhancements) can't be placed on unarmed strikes. Well, if I take throwing I had better take returning, or I'l have to cross the battlefield and try to find a way to put my hands back on. And I don't even want to think about what the other players would do if they got the chance to run off with my hands and hide them. |
| MightyPotamus04-07-07, 08:44 AM | thought half-ogre was a separate race, not a template? I personally think that all of the half- races should be broken down to templates. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose04-08-07, 02:06 AM | Unearthed Arcana has rules for using a lot of races as bloodline traits. As far as sizing, throwing, returning fists I would point out that the throwing and returning weapon abilities say nothing about granting the ability to detach a natural weapon or one which has been psionically grafted so you could put them on but it would be pretty tough to use. Just get a caster to give you blood wind from Spell Compendium when you need it. As far as sizing goes as a DM I'd allow it but ask not as it just seems like a silly abuse to me. I would however limit sizing to one catagory by ruling your body simply can't support a fist of any larger. |
| The_Deathstalker04-08-07, 04:54 PM | Well, you can say what you want about Returning attacks being silly, but despite the illogic, the specific example of a magical natural weapon that is given in Savage Species is a returning (i think it's like a +1 amulet of returning natural weapons or something like that), so it's supported by RAW, and despite all illogic, can happen. Also, ... ... wait... nope, that was about it. |
