Hi, new to the forums but have been playing D&D for a couple years now.

Recently my rogue died for the 20th time i then decided to make an arcane archer which looked to be a alot of fun.

It's now a lvl 6ranger / 1 warmage / 5 Arcane Archer.

And basically I want to know the limitations to the Seeker Arrow and Phase Arrow since the description is vague at best.

It say's they will travel to the target "known to you within range". So for example this happened last week, a vampire was standing on the roof above me in the street. He talked to me and while he did this i launched a seeker arrow towards approximately where the sound came from. Now our DM told me I could not possibly hit him since i had not seen him before and only heard his voice above me. So that's the story behind it.

What exactly are the limitations to "Known to you within range" with these 2 abilities?

Thanks in advance! :)

"Known to the archer" means, basically, that you have to know/believe that they're there, not that you necessarily have to be able to see them. Both abilities exist primarily to let you hit targets you couldn't under normal circumstances - usually because they're benefiting from Total Concealment or Total Cover. The Concealment rules have a provision for trying to attack someone you can't see: you just have to pick the square the target occupies and make a successful attack roll. Augmented with these special abilities, if all other conditions are met (a navigable path within range for the Seeker arrow, a straight line within range not obstructed by a magical barrier for the Phasing), you hit them.

Taking the example of the vampire that you gave, assuming you fired at the square he was actually standing in. With a seeking arrow, the vampire loses the +4AC bonus from the cover provided by the building and doesn't get to roll a miss chance because the arrow homes in on him. With a phasing arrow, he loses the +4AC bonus from cover as well as his Armor and Shield bonuses (maybe even his Natural Armor bonus - I think Dex and Deflection remain) and he doesn't get to the miss-chance because the arrow passes straight through it all to reach him.
