I'm in the process of helping my players pick prestige classes, and it's going fairly well. The only one we don't have squared away is the Sorcerer. He's been taking the Complete Arcane's Draconic Heritage feats, he's joined a cult of Tiamat, and all that sort of dragony stuff. Now he's looking for a magic-based prestige class that's dragon-focused.

Complete Arcane disappointed me, and the DMG's Dragon Disciple isn't much of a caster class. Any ideas? I have access to most splatbooks, though I prefer to use "official Wizards stuff."

Dragon Magic has two: Dragonheart Mage and another one centered around Dragonpacts... Dragonpact adept or something. Unfortunately, neither has full casting progression - they have 8/10 and 4/5, respectively. Still, they are quite decent, imo.

Dragoneheart Mage can also be found in the Races of the Dragon. It's fairly decent, as far as dragon flavored casters go.

There is also the Dracolexi, which focuses on the power of the draconic language, instead of your dragon heritage. (Also in Races of the Dragon)

EDIT: Whoops. :P

Magic of Eberron also has the dragon prophet. It's a rather interesting class. May have to be adapted somewhat as it uses Eberron constellations as part of the class's abilities.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure Dracolexi, if not DHM, is not in the Draconomicon. Races of the Dragon, maybe, but not the big D.

Oops, you're right. They are both in Races of the Dragon.

Dragon Magic and Races of the Dragon, of course. I had been looking in the 'nomicon. Guess I'll wander over to the bookstore to check those out...

Anyway, instead of dragon disciple, a martial-ish character can go for Talon of Tiamat. It is better for battle sorcerers, though.

I would thoroughly recommend Races of the Dragon...

If, for nothing else, the spells Sticky Floor, Create Trap, and Power Word, Pain. With Grease and a ranged weapon, a 1st level sorcerer or wizard can creatively annhiliate a group of 4 to 8 characters all by him- or her-self. Especially if said character is a Kobold... :plotting: :evillaugh

But on a less devious note, I would recommend the Dragonheart Mage. The loss of 2 levels of spellcasting is well worth the dragony goodness. Especially if the Sorcerer took the Draconic Heritage feat at first level.

Huh, I could have sworn there was a PrC for this situation in Droconomicon. I'm disappointed. But yeah, your best bet would probably be the Dracolexi or Dragonheart Mage. If nothing else, you could make a sorcerer variant of the Wyrm Wizard (Dragon Magic)

Also make sure to glance through the Dragonblooded Sorcerer sub levels

I was actually going to reccomend Talon of Tiamat from Draconomicon too, but I see someone beat me to it. That class though seems to fit best with someone from the Cult of Tiamat. I know there are other PrC's from specific cultist type groups, these can possibly be altered too.

Dragon 296 has the dragon mystic, but you must be of the dragon type.

The Draconic Heritage feat gives you the Dragonblood subtype, allowing you to qualify for feats, prestige classes, etc. as though you were of the Dragon type

The Draconic Heritage feat gives you the Dragonblood subtype, allowing you to qualify for feats, prestige classes, etc. as though you were of the Dragon typeFALSE. Races of the Dragon version only gives you dragonblood subtype. That subtype's "special" is that you are treated as a dragon for a particular purposes, that is:

(...)The subtype qualifies a creature to use magic items normally only usableby dragons, and qualifies the creature to take feats that have the subtype as a prerequisite. (...)
The dragonblood subtype does not confer the dragon type or any traits associated with that type.(...)Emphasis mine. Snipped parts not needed for the discussion, to follow the Fair Use doctrine. I'll be glad if you'll check the full version in a book to be sure.

Sorry, this does not let you take things with "dragon" prerequisite. Dragons can take things with dragonblood requirement (that was in snipped part of a quote), but the opposite way is not true.

Does anyone know if any template except half-dragon gives the dragon type? I wanted to utilize the rapidstrike feat.

Does anyone know if any template except half-dragon gives the dragon type?Dragonwrought for Kobolds, but it's a feat. Sorry, as far as I know, no template gives you the very type nowadays. Avoiding this was the intent of dragonblood subtype creation.
