| nighttree06-24-07, 12:38 AM | I'm looking for a PrC for a spontaniouse caster that either has....... A: High number of "bonus" metamagic feats... OR B: class feature that allows you to change the "elemental" discriptor of spells.... Anything "POP" to mind ? |
| Rerecros06-24-07, 12:43 AM | Theres a feat that does the elemental changy thing in CAr. The Recaster PrC, Races of eberron might be what your looking for. |
| nighttree06-24-07, 12:50 AM | Theres a feat that does the elemental changy thing in CAr. The Recaster PrC, Races of eberron might be what your looking for. That feat is why I'm looking for a PrC with lot's of bonus metamagic feats :D I'm trying to create a sorcerer who can change elemental discriptors (and combine them) on the fly. |
| Xeonas06-24-07, 03:07 PM | Well, I believe that Intcantrix from Magic of Farun(sp?) gives a bunch of metamagic bonus feats along with some other niffty metamagic abilities. As for the other thing, I'd say just go into archmage and get Elemental Mastery. |
| The_Shaman06-24-07, 03:22 PM | I'm looking for a PrC for a spontaniouse caster that either has....... A: High number of "bonus" metamagic feats... Incantatrix FTW. The current version is in Player's Guide to Faerun, but it is easily adaptable. Other PrCs might grant you feats as well, i.e. loremaster, but not so many. OR B: class feature that allows you to change the "elemental" discriptor of spells.... Anything "POP" to mind ? I think Frostburn had a feat (snowcasting) that allowed you to count a spell as a cold spell for various featres. IMO, however, it blows. Elemental substitution allows you to change the element of a spell, and there is a metamagic feat that allows you to invoke another element, essentially doubling the damage - it was in CArcane iirc, but I forgot the name right now. |
| StevenO06-24-07, 03:40 PM | The Archmage's Master of Elements ability is one possibility although entering it can be a pain. You could take Arcane Prep' and do the converting early although I don't recommend this. It will kill your sorcerer's casting ability but a few level of Wizard to enter Ulimate Magus would give you access to spontaneous (and somewhat free) use of metamagic. Ask your DM to allow +0 metamagics to apply without an increase in casting time. When all else fails is it always that bad to give up your move action inorder to apply a metamagic feat to a spontaneously cast spell? |
| The_Shaman06-25-07, 08:24 AM | On the issue of quickened spellcasting: Rapid Metamagic from Dragon Magic eliminates the extra time for metamagical casting, and the PHBII sorcerer variant helps if you need it early. |
| Wolfvyn06-25-07, 10:03 AM | I too have been looking for a Prc that gives lots of bonus meta-magic feats, you could say that I'm a meta0-magic addict, but the incantrix doesn't do it for me. Sure they have some nifty abilities, but just three bonus meta-magic feats isnt enough. Are there any others? |
| The_Shaman06-25-07, 11:13 AM | More than: - 4 free metamagic feats (1,4,7,10), - an ability that lets you apply metamagic feats to spell trigger items, existing spells, or another's spellcasting, - an ability to apply metamagic feats on the fly (wizards) for no extra time (sorcerers) - and an ability that lets you do any metamagic at decreased level? I am afraid not - iirc shadowcraft mage gives you some free metamagic, but only for illusions. In fact, many people whom I've spoken to here consider that already borderline broken and the incantatrix one of the strongest arcanist PrCs of any kind. I suppose you could use it and continue with another PrC that gives you free feats, like the loremaster, but for its 10 levels I think it is the best deal. The methadone of addictions, if you will. |
| Wolfvyn06-25-07, 09:22 PM | Well The extra abilities of the Incatrix are really nice, but what I meant was that it doesn't give me enough Meta-magic feats. You could really cut out all those nifty other things they get and replace them with meta-magic feats and I'd be happy. That's All I really want, lots and lots of meta-magic feats. Four of them aren't enough for me I need more, a lot more. |
| The_Shaman06-26-07, 02:25 AM | In such cases you should talk to the DM. I am quite sure I know of no class that gives you more than 4 (metamagic) feats per 10 levels so some homebrewing/houseruling is your main option. |
| Magius_Rerecros06-26-07, 11:44 AM | Well, there's a book out there called The Quintessential Sorcerer, created by Mongoose Publishing. It's 3.0, but it's fairly easily adapted into 3.5. There's a PrC in there called the Artillerist. It doesn't give any bonus metamagic feats, but it DOES improve some metamagic abilities, as well as apply some metamagic-like abilities of its own. For example: it gives the Artillerist immunity to the damage caused by his own Evocation spells (so he doesn't hurt himself if he shoots a fireball 5 feet in front of him or something), he can choose to make some allies immune to his spells (you'll have to look at that to see how it operates, it's a little confusing), and it allows him to 'reignite' some of his spells. For example, an Artillerist casts a fireball one round, then reignites it causing it to take place again as a move action (allowing him to cast another spell). Unfortunately, it only does half damage, and it takes up a spell slot. And he can choose whether to re-apply a metamagic feat to the reignited spell (altering the spell slot just the same). Additionally, they can improve their metamagic abilities at 4th & 8th level. They can either choose to reduce the cost of his metamagic feats by 1 (to a minimum of 1) at both 4th & 8th level, or at one of those levels he can choose to reduce his metamagic costs by 1 (to a minimum of one), and remove the additional casting time of metamagic feats at the other level. It's actually quite a nice PrC. Plus, it's full caster. Then, like previously suggested, there's the Incantatrix (Player's Guide to Faerun), and the Archmage (DMG). There's also the Rapid Metamagic feat (Complete Mage) to remove the casting time thing (though you have to be at least 9th level to take it). For the energy thing, there's Elemental Savant (Complete Arcane), but I don't think that's what you're looking for. That turns all energy spells in to one energy type, rather then modifying the energy type to whatever you want. For that, there's the Energy Substitution feat, although you'd have to take that multiple times to get all of the energy types. So with everything that you're asking for, they exist, but in multiple places. You WILL NOT find anything that gives everything there in one source, and remain balanced. Unless, MAYBE, if the PrC doesn't grant any spellcasting levels at all, but just adds metamagic effects. And I don't think you want that. |
