D&D has a lack of this, but are their any 3rd party books that cover the subject? Hopefully with classes/PrCs that are up to 3.5 equivalent?

Chaositech is a great 3rd party supplement if you can get your hands on it.

the world of warcraft rpg has some pretty good steam punk elements. Privateer Press has alot of material that is steam punk, you should check out their books, they have a great campaign world and while their d20 is lacking compared to their table top games its still some great material.

What kind of class are you looking for? What kind of abilities?

Anything that covers why people don't try to find mechanical ways to be on par with the All Mighty Magic, and people/classes that attempt to by mechanical means. The only D&D class I've found that even comes close is the Gnome Articifer PrC in Magic of Faerun, and that feels like an unfinished class at best.

The Dragonmech line of supplements, by Sword and Sorcery, has an entire set of rules for building Steampunk gadgetry. It's Steam Powers rules allows one to take elements from a list of powers, and build a gadget with it. Sounds like what you need?

Well, my Grenadier PrC (see my sig) is quite steam-punk-esque, as my campaign setting is quite modernised, with gunpowder, primitive trains, stuff like that.

What you need, is Deadlands D20.

the iron kingdoms campaign setting is a steampunk setting. It has a few classes and feats that you might find interesting.

will any/all that mesh well with D&D, rules wise? I'm looking to add to the area called Lantaan in the Faerun setting, as it needs some fleshing out.

Iron Kingdoms blends right in with dnd. It is a campaign setting, not another system. It uses all the rules from the players handbook and DMG. the only changes are that it gives a few races and classes diffrent abilities, and they add lots of feats and base/prestige classes.

It blends as into DND as well as eberon and forgotten realms do.

@ Krusk: Where can I find Iron Kingdoms stuff? Does it have an "SRD" or must I buy some book?

you must buy some book. They might have some sort of srd on their site. http://www.privateerpress.com/ironkingdoms/default.php
