| Cartigan04-28-08, 03:22 PM | One of the guys on our team is obsessed with collecting loot for money. Like he was cutting toes off of a Bhulette to try and hawk for gold. So I told him to take Trophy Collector (or Hunter, doesn't matter, you know what I mean) next level (so all those toes can be sold for real gold as 700g trophies. But I seem to recall a prestige class that had to do with collecting trophies of slain enemies and wearing them to gain benefits like the feat, but not the feat. Am I imaging things or is this a prestige class? |
| Sinfire Titan04-28-08, 03:27 PM | I'm sure there is one. For some reason, I want to say the Leviathan Hunter from Stormwrack does it. |

| dman1123504-28-08, 07:09 PM | It is a PrC, and it's not the Leviathan Hunter (cause I haven't really done anything with that book). I feel your pain SiFir. I want to say BoVD. Though it might be in an obscure book. |

Though it might be in an obscure book. It seems you are right (though the cost to create the trophies for the Leviathan Hunter PrC is 500gp, so one would assume you could sell them to other Hunters). I'll see if I can find as many PrCs that grant cash income from the books I do own. I know there may be more than the ones I will soon list, but this is the best I can find. Edit: Zilch. I've found a few affiliations (in Dungeonscape and CC, respectively) that allow you to borrow a set amount of items 1/month. But aside from that, I can't find a damn thing. Perhaps it is in an Eberron book? I only have the ECS, so I cant say for sure if any of the Eberron splatbooks have it, but there might be one. |
| Cartigan04-28-08, 08:36 PM | Probably was Leviathan Hunter. I will look later. |
| Sinfire Titan04-28-08, 08:48 PM | Probably was Leviathan Hunter. I will look later. I was about to edit the post to include the class I remembered that has access to what was effectively free cash, when I noticed you posted. The Witchborn Binder from Magic of Incarnum receives a purse at each level of the class from their patron. The total value of this purse is 500gp/Witchborn Binder level, and it is able to be spent however the WBB wants. At 10th level, they can use this purse for 5000gp (or more) once every year instead. |
| Cartigan04-28-08, 09:24 PM | No, it was some class that makes trophies/whatever. I don't think he sold them but he made them to do stuff. Leviathan Hunter does it, but I may be thinking of another one. I will look. |
| dman1123504-28-08, 09:42 PM | I'm thinking there was another one, since I am not familiar with Leviathan Hunter, and I remember seeing this mystery class. I've been looking through my books, but can't seem to find it. |
| Dead_Weasel04-28-08, 10:25 PM | Leviathan Hunter's (Stormwrack) Trophy ability grants a bonus to AC and saves against creatures of the same type. Trophy Collector (PHB2) grants a bonus to Intimidate (and a penalty to Diplomacy) against creatures of the same type (and a bonus on saves against fear). Mortal Hunter's (BoVD) Mortal Skin ability is completely different; samples of mortal flesh simply extend the ability's duration. The only other possibility that comes to mind is Fleshwarper (LoM), which is probably an even further cry from what you want here. |
| Cartigan04-29-08, 12:14 AM | I was probably just thinking about Trophy Hunter then forgot -_- And what's the DC on trophies? |
| Sinfire Titan04-29-08, 12:41 AM | I was probably just thinking about Trophy Hunter then forgot -_- And what's the DC on trophies? It uses the normal Craft skill DCs. The value of the Trophy is 100gp X creature's CR. The Leviathan Hunter's trophies have no DC to craft, only a GP cost. |
| Cartigan04-29-08, 12:54 AM | Craft DCs are usually set per item. The cost is given but no DC. |
| Dead_Weasel04-29-08, 02:23 AM | Craft DCs are usually set per item. The cost is given but no DC.Does DC 10 + CR sound fair? |
| Cartigan04-29-08, 07:37 AM | Still take forever to make. Oh well, the player is crazy and obsessed with making money so he would do it anyway. |
| Sinfire Titan04-29-08, 12:01 PM | To determine how much time and money it takes to make an item, follow these steps. Find the item’s price. Put the price in silver pieces (1 gp = 10 sp). Find the DC from the table below. Pay one-third of the item’s price for the cost of raw materials. Make an appropriate Craft check representing one week’s work. If the check succeeds, multiply your check result by the DC. If the result × the DC equals the price of the item in sp, then you have completed the item. (If the result × the DC equals double or triple the price of the item in silver pieces, then you’ve completed the task in one-half or one-third of the time. Other multiples of the DC reduce the time in the same manner.) If the result × the DC doesn’t equal the price, then it represents the progress you’ve made this week. Record the result and make a new Craft check for the next week. Each week, you make more progress until your total reaches the price of the item in silver pieces. If you fail a check by 4 or less, you make no progress this week. If you fail by 5 or more, you ruin half the raw materials and have to pay half the original raw material cost again. Progress by the Day You can make checks by the day instead of by the week. In this case your progress (check result × DC) is in copper pieces instead of silver pieces. That's the DC of the item. Item's price in Silver pieces. So Craft DC 5000 total. 50,000 if you are doing the checks by day, not week. |
| Cartigan04-29-08, 12:17 PM | No. That is not the formula for finding the DC. There isn't one. Reread step 2. DCs are explicitly given and there arn't any for taxidermy/trophies. And think about it. Craft DC 5000? No one would make that. You cannot roll anything and get 5000  That is the formula for finding how long it takes to finish something. |

And think about it. Craft DC 5000? No one would make that. You cannot roll anything and get 5000  That is the formula for finding how long it takes to finish something. Allow me to correct myself. The DC is 15, the DC to finish the trophy is 5000. A trophy would be a high-quality item. According to the Craft rules, a DC 15 check each week makes progress on the item. Assuming a Character with 8 ranks and am Int of 14 would try to use the Trophy Collector feat to make a trophy out of a CR 6 (since it has to have a higher CR than your ECL), the cost is 600gp. The DC is a DC 15 check each week. You then multiply that check result by 15 to get how much progress you've made. Assuming the PC takes 10 (let's just say it happens, for the sake of the math), and no other help from feats, other PCs, or magic items/spells, he gets a 20 total. 20x15=300. He is halfway there. He needs a total of 6000 to finish the trophy. He is 1/20 of the way to the total DC. Better? |
| RobbieAB05-04-08, 10:01 AM | NitPick: If the PC is taking 10 and getting 20, he should volutarily raise the DC by 5 to craft it faster. This option is incredibly important when considering some of the more expensive items in the game. |
| edwardlynxx05-04-08, 10:26 PM | If you want a strange class check out the Alienist from the Complete Arcane. That's about as weird as they come. :looloo: They're psycho! |
