| masterartisan09-07-07, 04:52 PM | Blink Dog Scout http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/805/889858.JPG Blinking in and out of reality, the dogs stalk the raiding Orc party. "Just let 'em get close I'll..." one of the brutes snorts. He can't even finish his taught before they do. In a flash, dogs appear behinds the grunts and flank them from every different side. And then, just as quickly as they came, they vanish; leaving the Orcs scattered and unorganized. One strong Orc shaman starts to bark orders. "Get ready for the second wave!" He yells; just as a old Blink Dog, graying with years of the hunt, flashing in the air behind him. The dog's momentum drags the shaman to the ground. Then, flash! the Orc's leader vanishes along with the dog. The remaining Orcs are left leaderless as Dogs desend apone them from ever angle. The shaman has a much worse fate. He appears surrounded by the Blink Dog elders, whom he had come to these lands to destroy. Requirements: Race: Blink Dog (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/blinkDog.htm) Feats: Dodge and Mobility Hit Dice: d8 Base Attack Bonus: Medium Fortitude Save: Poor Reflex Save: Good Will Save: Poor Skill Points: 8 Class Skills: Balance, Climb, Concentration, Escape Artist, Hide, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (Nature), Knowledge (Geography), Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, Spot, Survival, Swim, and Tumble Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1st: +0 +0 +2 +0 Skirmish (+1d6), Dimensional Spring Attack (1/day), Caster Level Bonus 2nd: +1 +0 +3 +0 Evasion, Improved Natural Attack (Bite 1d8) 3rd: +2 +1 +3 +1 Skirmish (+1d6, +1ac), Improved Scent 4th: +3 +1 +4 +1 Uncanny Dodge, Dimensional Spring Attack (2/day) 5th: +3 +1 +4 +1 Skirmish (+2d6, +1ac), Natural Attack (Claws 1d6) 6th: +4 +2 +5 +2 Improved Uncanny Dodge, Uncanny Scent 7th: +5 +2 +5 +2 Skirmish (+2d6, +2ac), Dimensional Spring Attack (3/day) 8th: +6 +2 +6 +2 Improved Evasion, Improved Natural Attack (Bite 2d6) 9th: +6 +3 +6 +3 Skirmish (+3d6, +2ac), Improved Grapple 10th: +7 +3 +7 +3 Dimensional Spring Attack (4/day), Trip 11th: +8 +3 +7 +3 Skirmish (+3d6, +3ac), Improved Natural Attack (Claws 1d8) 12th: +9 +4 +8 +4 Camouflage 13th: +9 +4 +8 +4 Skirmish (+4d6, +3ac), Dimensional Spring Attack (5/day) 14th: +10 +4 +9 +4 Blind Sight 30ft, Dimensional Evasion Skirmish: In a round where the Blink Dog Scout uses Dimension Door or moves 10’ or more from his/her starting position, the Scout does +Xd6 damage with all melee attacks & all ranged attack within 30’. Only creatures vulnerable to critical hits are vulnerable to the extra damage. Also, the Scout receives a +X Competence bonus to AC in those same rounds. This class feature does not apply when mounted. Dimensional Spring Attack: A Blink Dog Scout learns how to greater control his innate magical abilities. When he uses his Dimension Door ability, he may choose to move some fraction of the available distance, reappear near an enemy and attack, then move the remaining distance to the originally designated location. This Doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity. The starting point, the opponent, and the end point, must all be in one line; and the opponent must be with in line of sight from the starting location. Caster Level Bonus: Add Blink Dog Scout levels to the caster level equivalent to the Blink Dog's racial spell like abilities. Evasion: At 2nd level and higher, a Blink Dog Scout can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If he makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the Blink Dog Scout is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless Blink Dog Scout does not gain the benefit of evasion. Snatch: A Blink Dog Scout may attempt to grab another creature, willing or not, and dimension door him with the blink dog. If the target is not willing, the Blink Dog must first successfully initiate a grapple, then the opposing creature gets a will save with a DC of 14+the Blink Dog's Charisma Modifier. If he fails the save, he is transported along with the Blink Dog to where ever the Blink Dog was going. Uncanny Dodge: Starting at 4th level, a Blink Dog Scout can react to danger before his senses would normally allow him to do so. He retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if he is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, he still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. If a Blink Dog Scout already has uncanny dodge from a different class she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge instead. Improved Scent: The Blink Dog's scent ability can now detect creatures with in 60ft. Improved Evasion: This ability works like evasion, except that while the Blink Dog Scout still takes no damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks henceforth she takes only half damage on a failed save. A helpless Blink Dog Scout does not gain the benefit of improved evasion. Trip: A Blink Dog Scout that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+3 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the Blink Dog. Improved Uncanny Dodge: At 6th level and higher, a Blink Dog Scout can no longer be flanked. This defense denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack the Blink Dog Scout by flanking him, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target has Blink Dog Scout levels. If a character already has uncanny dodge from a second class, the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge instead, and the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack to determine the minimum level a rogue must be to flank the character. Uncanny Scent: A Blink Dog Scout can now pin point creatures with the scent ability within 20ft. Blind Sense: A Blink Dog Scout notices and locates creatures within 20 feet. Opponents still have 100% concealment against a creature with blindsense. Improved Natural Attack: A Blink Dog Scout Increases the damage dealt by it bite. Camouflage: A Blink Dog Scout of 12th level or higher can use the Hide skill in any sort of natural terrain, even if the terrain doesn’t grant cover or concealment. Dimensional Evasion: Once per round, if the Blink Dog Scout is being attacked in melee, he can choose to avoid being hit by making a reflex save vs the attackers attack bonus. If he makes the save, he uses Dimension Door before being struck and then appears anywhere in his range. The attack from the opponent is wasted. This can only be used if the Blink Dog Scout has not used Dimension door already this round. |

This will help formatting, and let you spell out the BAB and saves in a way that more closely resembles WotC material. Also, flavor text is very important to the PEACHing process. |

| dman1123509-07-07, 08:55 PM | I have no idea what you are trying to do with this, so i cannot balance it. If you are looking to do something for the race blink dog as a PC, as a progression to 20 (which it looks like you are doing), it looks fine on first glance. Except where you gave the opponents 100% miss chance with blind sense, and blind sense is no different than uncanny scent. |

| dman1123509-08-07, 05:07 PM | How about blind sight instead? That's what a human scout would get at that level. And increase to 30 feet. And I'd increase the x/day for dimensional spring attack. Maybe 1/day at 1, and then at every 3 levels after wards. And change the wording, to something that doesn't limit you to moving half, but rather a portion. And you do not have a description for dimensional evasion. Move uncanny scent up a couple levels, same with imp. uncanny dodge. Eliminate x/day on the table for snatch. |

Eliminate x/day on the table for snatch. good call, blind sight 30ft it is. i should up the x/day dimensional spring attack, that's really their main thing. so for snatch, are you suggesting they can do it as often as they want, that might not be too powerful. |
| dman1123509-08-07, 05:24 PM | I don't think it will be too powerful if it's at will. If you had snatch AND dimensional spring attack at will, then that's way too powerful. I mean, it's just dimension door at will as a free action. It's not greater teleport. Think of it as really, really fast movement, something that phantom steeds give you as well. |
| masterartisan09-08-07, 05:44 PM | i reworked the class, what'd you think. |
| dman1123509-08-07, 06:03 PM | Fix the table and/or text on dimensional evasion, they contradict. And change the trip to just the bite. Make it like the wolves. Get rid of pounce, they don't need it. |

| dman1123509-08-07, 07:00 PM | They need more class skills to choose from. Try knowledge (planes) as well. You haven't changed the blindsense yet. And change the wording on improved natural attack to match the table. Have it increase damage by one size category, and 2 sizes later for the bite. I'm worried about dimensional evasion being too powerful, as it negates all damage done that round (makes save: goes out of reach). But it might be balanced since they cannot use both that and skirmish. |
