Master of masks, best way to go? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-20-07, 06:32 AM Im starting the master of masks prc because of the options it gives me, it lets me play around with alot. how many rogues get a breath weapon, can fly, turn into a claric or cast dimension door without multiclassing? Plus with the assassin mask i dont lose my sneak atk dice, they go up lvls with me. I really dont see a down side to this class. the only question i have is, If i use the dragon mask to give myself breath weapons, can i take breath weapon feats. Most breath weapon feats say you need to have dragon blood subtype and have a breath weapon. so if i take the feet dragon touched i get the subtype and my mask "gives" me a breath weapon. Im thinking about playing up the breath weapon thing just because its something different to sneak into a group and then fire blast them. what are your thoughts?

06-20-07, 10:41 AM I've always wanted to try and take Master of Mask along with Chameleon. Then you'd really be able to immitate other classes.

Personally, I'd ask your DM if you can change the MoM spellcasting requirements over to a minimum Binder level, and allow the class to advance your Soul Binding class feature. Having Binder would give you even more versatility, allowing you to play wildly different characters by switching masks and vestiges.

As for the Breath Weapon thing, the DM in me says hell no, while the PC in me says Hell yes. As long as you have the dragonblood subtype, I suppose you could take the feats, but they would only apply so long as you have the mask on. Its up to your DM, though, unless there is a more official stance.

Is it just me, or does it seem that for all the abilities you get from this class its a little cheap for a couple of 100gp masks?

06-20-07, 01:37 PM i never knew about either of these classes but omg they are both amazing....

I would say yes you can use them as long as you have a lil dragon in your charecter.

you know the sad thing, the only mask that bothers me is the gladiators mask. 100 gold for the equivilant of about 20ish feats just seems wrong. I dont mind them casting spells or breathing fire or anything like that i just find it hard to grasp that for 100 gold you get every exotic weapon proficiency.

Its not very powerful, but it just seems excessive to me i guess.

lol i generally play casters and having things that allow you to bend reality at will seem perfectly fine but free Exotic weapon Proficency makes me go ZOMG!

I personally prefer Chameleon, but if you are already a caster, you should definitely take Master of Mask to continue you casting progression.
Otherwise, the two classes are very similar, except the Chameleon is a bit more durable as a melee combatant.

Also, be sure to grab a few levels of Binder or Factotum instead of Rogue. Both will let you imitate a Rogue, but will give you more versatility and options.

"His" name is Twin. Easily my favorite evil PC. (With this build, the MoM levels stack with Binder instead of a previous spellcasting class, so he is effectively an 8th lvl Binder).

Oh, don't worry, its not as bad as it sounds. Sure, you are proficient with all exotic weapons, but how many weapons can you actually weild at once? One, maybe two if you're lucky. And, you have to be wearing the mask for it to work. That means to you can't switch over to your Archmage mask unless you want non-proficeincy penalties. That or you have to lug around several primary weapons to cover all your levels of proficiency.

While I like your build, I think both Chameleon 8 and MoM 7 are landmarks in those PrCs and each make the PrC worth taking. The fact that I end up with 5th level beguiler casting is just icing.

06-22-07, 07:04 PM I made a NPC Illumian Rogue 2/Warlock 3/Master of Masks 5.

She had the Illumian Power Sigils that boost Cha checks and the one for caster level. Basically she had a +2d6 Sneak Attack, 4d6 Eldrich Blast, Detect Magic at will, Evasion, and the Litch, Archmage, High Priest, Faceless, and Dragon (another 4d6 attack) Persona Masks...all with a Disguise of +23, a Diplomacy of +21 and a Bluff of +18.

I've never heard my players complain about broken characters so much before. They almost cried and destroyed the city to stop her...and that was before they found out she was the lacky of a vampire. Good times...

06-23-07, 05:02 PM It may just be me but if you are going for MOM or chameleon why not take human (feat able learner) spellthief/5 then either PRC up to full progression. then finish out with with 5 levels of whatever else you like. You get spell stealing detect magic crazy jumping around feats/ability score boosts for the chameleon. And spell casting no matter what aspects you have on.

the last five i would take dragon disciple, blue dragon. nothing says fun sneak attack than a line of lighting, line acid.
