| EKHunter04-17-07, 11:36 AM | I've been messing around with the prestige classes in the Complete Arcane, and I've always passed this one by and thought to myself, that looks like fun. Upon the demise of my current character (apparently my DM took exception to my sorc committing mass genocide on an NPC community) I decided that maybe it was time to try one out. I decided to make it a lvl 7 wizard lvl 3 transmogrifist because it was the only spell casting class that gave me the requirements for the prestige class at 7th and not 8th, but my DM and I have been butting heads over the character itself and what it can and cannot do, so I thought I would get some answers from the D&D elite if you are out there. Looks really cool and all, but if he's right it will be like the Mindbender class, and pretty underpowered and useless. The question is this? How much of the creature types chosen abilities do I get at 3rd lvl PC? Should I even bother picking strong creature types now, or should I be looking at creature types with high AC, HP, attribute scores? Basically I need to find out if turning into one of my selected forms basically turns me into a melee class for sake of choosing my types? |

I tried to chose forms that were suvivable, but I also know that they will eventually pick up the supernatural abilities of thier chose forms. I'd say look for one or two strong forms, one "toolbox" form or one that will net a hihg amount of abilities later, and one nigh indestructable form for when the chips are down and you need the boost It's not focused, but unless you want your character to use only one creature type for their forms, it works. |
| EKHunter04-17-07, 12:00 PM | So the answer is that I am basically picking survivability/melee character to start off the class, and I don't see the better sides of the creatures until 8th lv PC? If so can anyone suggest some good non-humanoid creatures to pick...based on the build I can pick 2x10 HD, 1X9 HD and 1x8 HD creatures as my favoured types. I only got a brief look at the Monster Manual before our campaign ended last week, and two of the best that I could come up with were a Tendriculos and a Celestial Charger (unicorn). Any other suggestions? |
| Puca04-17-07, 01:57 PM | How high a level do you expect this campaign to go? Look at all the things the Master Transmogrifist can give you when you reach level 17. Then compare it to what a regular wizard can do at the same level with Shapechange and all the other spells he can cast that you cannot. I think your DMs comparison to the Mindbender was apt. That doesnt mean you cant have fun with it though. |
| EKHunter04-18-07, 07:20 AM | Presumably, my DM wants a campaign that is going to go beyond epic, so stupidity and insane criticals aside, I should have no problem filling my ranks in MT. |
