The Metamagic Master is a small yet powerful PrC class that is able to benefit any party arcane spellcaster and increase potency of spells. However the increased power potential requires the spellcaster to focaus all efforts in learning on Metamagic and as such no more arcane spell learning can be achieved whilst a Metamagic Master.

Characteristics
To a Metamagic Master spells are still top proirity in life. However, instead of learning new spells, a Metamagic Master makes known ones more powerful through Metamagic Feats.

Alignment
Like Wizards, Metamagic Masters have a tendancy towards Law over Chaos.

Role
As a powerful spellcaster, a Metamagic Master is still relied on by other members in the party for damage.

Alignment
Any

Prerequisites
Ability to cast 7th level spells.
Knowledge (arcana) 18 ranks.
Two or more Metamagic Feats

Hit Die
d4

Skills and Class Skills:
As the Wizard.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
As the Wizard.

Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special Other
1 0 0 0 2 Metamagic Mastery -1 +1 level of previous arcane spellcasting class
2 1 0 0 3 Eschew Metamagic 1/day
3 1 1 1 3 Bonus Metamagic Feat +1 level of previous arcane spellcasting class
4 2 1 1 4 Eschew Metamagic 2/day
5 2 1 1 4 Metamagic Mastery -2 +1 level of previous arcane spellcasting class

Metamagic Mastery
At levels 1 and 5 the Metamagic Master can lower the effective spell leveling caused through total metamagic feats on a spell by 1. Eg, Level 3 Fireball maximised an empowered SHOULD be a level 7 spell. But for the Metamagic Master it can be cast as a level 6 spell. At level 5 the total lowering increases to -2. This ability can never lower a spell level lower than the original spell level.

Eschew Metamagic
At level 2, 1/day a Metamagic Master may cast a spell with metamagic bonus' without any preparation. At level 3 this may be done 2/day. This ability stack with Metamagic Mastery for understanding the spell slot used up. Eschew Metamagic does not increase time taken to cast the spell.

Losing out on 5 spellcasting levels is very detracting

Added restricted previous spellcaster levels, at 2 and 4.

Hmm for a class based solely on spellcasting, they sure loose alot of spellcasting levels.

This class requires you to be at least be level 16 by the time you enter it thats, really steep, not to mention the metamagic master doesn't have any other prerequisites(10 ranks knowledge arcana isn't a prerequisite ALL arcane spellcasters will have 19 by this level). I just think its funny that it doesn't even require 1 metamagic feat to get into the class.

metamagic mastery is equivalent to an epic feat, at 5th level thats two epic feats. Also does this effect metamagic feats that are only +1? If so thats alot more epic feats(auto silent/still). This ability is over the top.

The eschew metamagic, is this allowing you to apply any metamagic to any spell you know for free twice a day? This is over powered.

This class comes to late into the game and is very abusable(It becomes even more abusable epic level)

So, I'd say either 3/5 spell casting, or 4/5. 2/5 is still to light.

Eschew Metamagic - Perfectly fine, just like having a greater metamagic rod.

Metamagic Mastery - Should have the following caveats added: Cannot reduce the total level adjustment below 0; Reduces the TOTAL level adjustment of all metamagic feats applied to the spell by 1,2.
So, at 5th level, an empowered Fireball is 3rd caster level, a Maximized FB is 4th level, an Emp Max FB is 6th level.
If you apply it to each individually (as some people read it, and as you may have intended it, I don't know) you could cast a Still, Silent, Empowered, Enlarged, Widened, Maximized, Quickened Fireball as a level 7 spell. Which is wrong.

Finally, It should require something along the lines of Any Three Metamagic Feats.

You either mixed up the BAB column or made your own type of BAB. If the former, it should go 0-1-1-2-2. If the latter, there are only 3 types of BAB: Poor, Average, and Good. You use one of these, you don't make a new one.

1) Tiwaz is right when saying that ONLY the TOTAL metamagic feat cost is altered. For example, a maximised fireball would cost only a level 4 spell slot. An empowered maximised fireball would be a level 5 spell slot (+3 [maximised] + 1 [empowered] -2 [metamagic mastery] = +2 spell slots). Also, yes the total level adjustment can never be lowered below its original level. I didnt think of that.

2) sorry bobo, i thought i had put the BAB colomn right but it does look wrong i'll change it it should be poor.

3) I'll change the prerequisistes.

4) Eschew metamagic does not make 'any metamagic spell free. twice per day.' It simply removes the need for preparation of a metamagic spell ahead of time. For example the wizard-Metamagic Master might realise too late (normally) that an empowered fireball is needed. This allows him to cast it as a standard action with no preparation. Metamagic Mastery stacks with this ability. Therefore empowering the fireball would cause it to still be a lvl 3 spell.

Suggest adding that using Eschew Metamagic does not increase the time taken to cast the spell - makes this PRC more attractive to spontaneous spellcasters, who otherwise gain nothing from this class feature.

Nice. The latest version fits very nicely power wise with other PrC's.

I would actually allow EM to be a free (no level adjust) single metamagic per use. After all, A 15th level caster can get a hold of a metamagic rod without any great difficulty, and a greater maximize metamagic rod for example allows you to spontaneously max a spell of up to 9th level three times a day.

To reitterate, BAB should go 0-1-1-2-2.

Am i not right in saying that empowering a spell is infact a plus 2 bonus to its level....?
