Mixed Melee/Close Range Combat

. Tab scanned the surroundings on all four sides, "dark alley, dark alley, dark alley, obvious ambush." He peered further down the well lit street, two half-orcs non-chalantly stared at him inconspicuously. Tab would never be a friend to any of those options, but the orcs weren't wearing any obvious armor and they didn't look particularily nimble, so obvious ambush it would be. "I'm sure Oren would give me wise insight like 'better and enemy you see, than one you don't. I'm a dwarf, I know these things, you learn them in the mountain belly, really'." Tab hitched up his knife belt and pulled the bandolier of daggers further down. You'd think, he thought, that no one would ambush someone carry twenty-three knives and a mace. You'd think, he thought on the other hand, that people would be attached to not being dead either. Each of the half orcs had more than a dozen scars on their face alone, which cast doubts upon his first and second theories.

. Praying that there might be something like a lusty maiden or a gypsy shop with an open door between him and the muggers was too much. Even then, in this part of the city, that meant it had only a fifty-fifty chance of being a trap. Tab slipped two of the throwing knives up his sleeve and put another two in his hands. "It will be interesting at the very least. Hail hardy half-orcs! How fare you on this eve!?" They grunted and turned their heads, studying the ground with scholarly interest. Tab was ten feet past them and in the clear. "Well, that wasn't half-give me your money." Two sentences collided and a trio of halflings slid out from the shadows.

. Tab turned slightly, "Good sir half-orcs, will you give aid?"

. The bigger one said "We wuz already gunna." The smaller drew long sword and nodded to the halflings, who nodded back in unison.

. "Oh, bad luck then." Tab considered jumping over the halflings, but their knives looked pointy and his feet felt squishy. Instead Tab threw the two daggers at the half-orcs behind him and dove between them. He came up facing the same brutes and threw two more daggers from his sleeves. All four had found their mark, which was good. All five muggers were still alive however, and that was bad. At least the half-orcs were bleeding. Tab drew two more daggers and beckoned defiantly. Ducking a savage stroke Tab stabbed the small half-orc twice in the leg, stepped away, and hurled his right hand knife into the mugger's neck. The club impact jarred him a little and he rolled away from the larger half-orc.

. The halflings were recovering from the shock and closing cautiously. Tab kneed the half-orc, loosed a knife at the lead halfling, and cut the half-orc with a freshly drawn knife. The lead halfling collapsed and the half-orc began coughing blood. Now that there were three dead muggers, the two left standing turned tail and disappeared into the shadows of the alleys. Tab picked up his knives and rummaged through the dead mens' belongings. "Oh thats nice, another knife" Tab said and slipped the glimmering point into his boot sheath.

. NAME are masters of mixing up melee and ranged combat. Rather than stay hundreds of feet from their target, NAME move in and out of their opponents space. They create opportunities with unpredicatble tactics and a keen awareness of their surroundings. Because few groups of monsters can use their numbers as effectively as a NAME they are fond of group fighting and take advantage of their opponents numbers, often turning an ambush into a route.
. NAME are equally comfortable in the city or in the wild. While they have a draw towards rogues and rangers, many other classes also have a natural propensity for the NAME class, especially fighters. Humans and halflings enjoy the wild tactics most, few dwarves or half-orcs consider it to be 'warrior-like' enough to deserve respect. Often proud melee fighters or ranged fighters will chide NAME for lacking the discipline to follow through with their particular brand of combat. While NAME have neither compunctions towards good or evil, they have a strong lean towards chaotic instead of lawful.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: The NAME gains proficieny with light armor and bucklers, but not shields or tower shields. The NAME gains proficiency with daggers, clubs, short spears, spears, throwing axes, light hammers, tridents, and shurikens.

Changeup: The pinnacle power of the NAME is their ability to unbalance opponents by switching between ranged and melee attack, and from opponent to opponent. If the NAME makes a successfully melee or thrown attack, their following attack gains the listed bonus, so long as it is the opposite of the initial attack (melee-thrown). This damage is multiplied in a critical hit. The NAME must be wearing Light Armor or less to use changeup. These bonuses do not stack and the NAME cannot use a changeup throw against an adjacent opponent (changeup can be used against opponents that take up multiple squares, so long as at least one is not adjacent). Example: Tab stabs a half orc and hits for 1d4+1 damage. He throws a knife at a near by halfling for his next attack, and gains a +1 to attack and damage.

Melee Throw: Through training and experience, the NAME can make thrown attacks without drawing attacks of opportunity so long as they wear light armor or less.

Melee Precise Shot: The heat of combat is no time to mistakenly put a knife in your friend's back (you'd have significantly less friends that way). While wearing light armor and making a thrown changeup attack, the NAME is treated as having Precise Shot, whether or not he qualifies for the feat.

Close Combat: The ability to move into the most advantagous position is important. When wearing light armor the NAME is treated as having both Shot on the Run for thrown weapons and Spring Attack.

Melee Mobility: While in light armor or less, the NAME does not provoke attacks of opportunity for movement within a target's threatened area. At 9th level the NAME may select two targets instead of one.

Blood Circle: A blood circle is the area within the combined reach of you and your weapon. For safety precautions you are advised not to step within an opponent's blood circle unless you can help it, or unless you're a NAME. While wearing light armor, the NAME can make AoOs against opponents with 20ft (except movement induced AoOs). Also, the NAME grants a flanking bonus against any target they've struck with a changeup for 1 round.

Set Up: As a master battle manipulater, the NAME can control an opponents actions so well that they can give themselves masterful set ups to attack. If the NAME makes two consecutive changeups against a single target, their next changeup attack ignores any armor or natural armor bonus to AC and deals an additional 1d6 damage.

Its a little sloppy at the moment, but I think its a great idea so far.

What happened to this board? It used to be the most active board online.

I think that people realized that prestige classes are not the best way to get flavor into a character

Okay, under Changeup, when you say they gain a listed bonus, you should specify that this is a bonus to your damage roll.

I also think that you can safely give them precise shot as a bonus feat.

Blood circle is a little vague at the moment as well, can you clarify what it means?

I like the idea of setup, maybe you should gain the ability sooner, and gain equivalent dice to that of a rogue, with the capstone ability (level 10) allowing you to avoid the armor.

As for names, I would suggest: Edge Brawler, Bladerunner... hmm... Cutthroat?

I don't know, I tried. I like the idea so far... More suggestions to come.

There, does that make blood circle easier to figure out? The general idea is that you can take ranged AoOs against opponents within 20ft as long as the AoO isn't caused by movement (I just think its silly that you can't move within a certain area without getting attacked from 20ft away. Casting a spell, on the other hand, is still an opening).
