I was looking through Bard feats the other day and I think I came across one that would let a bard stop a song and use a scroll or cast a spell, but continue the performance after doing so. I think it was described as a Dramatic Pause, but I can't find it. This could possibly be because it is a class feature. But I forget where it is.

EDIT: I have no idea how this ended up in prestige classes, and since I can't delete posts here, if anyone could move it first chance they get...

It sounds vaguely familiar to me... I think I did read it in the Complete Mage.

Hmm, there is the Animate Instrument spell from CScoundrel which will let you do anything you want while the instrument continues playing.

Found it. Melodic Casting from CMage. It's not described as a "dramatic pause" though.

Hmm, that may have been it, but doesn't seem like the thing I was thinking of.

This works just as well, and you can certainly flavor it as such. The only game effects that you described were that you can cast spells and such while using bardic music. The stopping and starting is not necessary. And that's what this feat does (with an added benefit on concentration too).
