I have a question about the Necrocarnate's ability Soul Harvist. Y'know, the one that allows him to steal life energy for essentia? Yeah, that's the one.
My question is, what are the requirements for a "newly dead corpse". Obviously, must be dead within 1 hour/necrocarnate level, but is that it? Can I use a rat corpse to power this, or does it need to be a humanoid? If so, can I just carry around a cage of rats that I slaughter to fuel my fire? I can't seem to find any requirements other than recently dead, so curious about what you thought.

By RAW, that is exactly how it works. It's another 'bag of rats' trick. At least IIRC, I'm AFB at the moment (damn work...)

Yep, you're right. I've had a necrocarnate dump his leftover coffee down anthills for just this reason.

Do note that it's nothing compared to Consumptive Field, a cleric spell from Libris Mortis (which got an UPGRADE!!! in the Spell Compendium, which did NOT need to do that) that can be persisted.

TS, arcanists have been playing 'anything you can do' for many, many, many years now, lol. With everyone. And incarnum's no exception.

No, really? I didn't get the memo. Last I got was from 1998.

Sarcasm aside, I'm all too familiar with that. CO board regular, y'know?

Yeah, and one that has been an inspiration to me for a while. I was only halfway-serious with my statement about arcanists, but it is true.

Don't forget that your DM has the final word over this ability. Perhaps you'll have to find a suitable corspe to harvest rather than dealing with rats and other pests. After a bloody battle, just take a few minutes to harvest essentia.

Well, that is true for anything, really. Just ask your DM what he deems to be the case with this ability. However, according to the RAW, it can be used on anything.
