| Frylord04-04-07, 09:44 PM | Okay, I have a Goblin sorcerer, and I'm at high enough level to consider taking a prestige class. I don't want a half-way martial half-way caster PrC, and the only one I can find thats easy for sorcerers to become in the PHB is the Dragon Disiciple. I have only one non-core book, Libris Mortis, and not enough money for another book, so I turn to these boards to help me with sorcerer-oreniated PrC that you have created. So, can you help me? Thanks in advance. Also, just ask if you need more details for a suitable PrC for me. |
| geekmasterflash04-04-07, 09:47 PM | Do not, under any circumstance take Dragon Disciple. It is a crappy PrC, even worse if you have a decent grasp of magic (spells over 4th level.) Give me some flavor concepts on what you want, and I will make you a PrC. Anything to save people from the crap-tastic dragon disp. |
| Frylord04-04-07, 10:11 PM | Well, my goblin's concept is that he hates a certain clan of goblin-slaughtering dwarves, and I'm planning for him to be a sort of sorcerer-general. Does that help any? EDIT: Also, he'll learn from other goblins biased tales of dwarves slaughtering innocent goblins, and eventually try to lead a dwarf-cleansing crusade. |
| geekmasterflash04-04-07, 10:26 PM | Sounds more like a Ranger/Foe-Hunter than a Sorcerer type. Give me something magical to work with, a focus. |
| Frylord04-04-07, 10:42 PM | Well, I figured out that he was the son of friendly, inter-planar goblin merchants, and my original idea was that the goblins had an untouched magical potential, (seeing as I mainly find them as rogues and the like) and instead of the generic draconic ancestors for sorcerers, Nazk (my goblin sorcerer) knows how to manipulate the magical potential of goblins. Or, perhaps the great-great-great etc grandson of almost any kind of outsider? (as an alternitave?) On reflection, I think I didn't plan the backstory very well.. |
| RobbyPants04-04-07, 11:00 PM | If I were you, I'd recomend taking a PrC with as close to a full casting progression as possible. Here are a few suggestions (although I don't know if you can get access to some these books): Libris Mortis: True Necromancer (both divine and arcane casting, with an undead theme) DMG:Mystic Theruge(both divine and arcane casting) Heroes of Horror: Fiend Blooded (gives nice abilities, 9/10 casting, IIRC) Complete Mage: Alienist (odd flavor, 10/10 casting) Elemental Savant(focus on one element, 8/10 casting) Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil (focused on Prismatic Wall-like effects, 7/7 casting) Mindbender (great at charms, 5/10 casting, good for a 1 level dip to get +1 caster level and telepathy 100 feet!) Wild Mage (has chaotic effects, 10/10 casting). The ones that I chose are relatively easy to get into (hopefully you have decent ranks in Spellcraft and Knowledge(Arcana)). If I think of any others, I'll let you know. |

I would agree, I think you need to flesh him out more. |
| Frylord04-04-07, 11:14 PM | Ahh... that's what I forgot.. the entire backstory... It should help. Nazk Swifttongue was born to kindly plane-traveling goblin merchants, who saw fit to instruct their child that no creature should be hated, and that most people should be trusted. When he was three years old, Nazk's parents moved to the Prime Material, as it was where they had originally come from. Then, they set up a successful trading business. Nazk had a peaceful childhood, and eventually found a happy-go-lucky goblin lass named Tos and fell in love with her. They married, had a child, and set up a trading business alongside Nazk's parents. But then, tragedy struck. A group of dwarven goblin-slayers came, and slaughtered all of Nazk's loved ones. He tried to fight, but ended up almost dying, barely concious, and having a souviner, a scar from one of the dwarves's battleaxes. As he lay there, dying, he heard them discussing their organization's goals, but only understood five words. "Hand of the Living Mountain." He set out to find ways to kill the dwarves, and found two things. 1. The dwarves didn't seem to use magic much, so killing them with eldritch powers would make their deaths, and humilation, all the sweeter. 2. Apparently, Nazk was the great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson of a copper dragon who had a thing for humanoids. Armed with these facts, and learning about the untapped magical power of his bloodline, Nazk set out to gain fame, power, and money, in order to convice his fellow goblins to join him in a crusade to wipe out the Hand of the Living Mountain. And what would gain him all these things the easiest way? Adventuring of course. Currently a newcomer to adventurering, Nazk is looking for his old drinking buddy Terminus Bonejeer, whom owes Nazk a favor. Since Term is dead, this'll be impossible, so Nazk will probrably help whomever befriended Term, as whomever befriended Term will be a useful ally. Personalitity: Nazk is cold, opportunistic, manipulative, and sarcastic, yet is fiercely loyal to those he considers "friends:, and has a morbid sense of humor. Nazk is happiest when he manipulates events to his advantage, and once in a while, he feels altrustic. EDIT: Also, how do you put huge posts in a small box? |
| geekmasterflash04-04-07, 11:19 PM | Hmm, I might be able to work with this. I am assuming a LE alignment? |
| Frylord04-04-07, 11:25 PM | I was planning LG, then spiralling downwards towards LE, but plain old starting LE works great with my backstory. |
| geekmasterflash04-04-07, 11:28 PM | Alright, give me a few hours...I will see what I can think up. |
| geekmasterflash04-04-07, 11:53 PM | Actually, I am not feeling this one man. You are in ranger territory...favored enemy. If anything you should BE a ranger, they get spells and favored enemies. The foe-hunter is a great PrC so you can focus on just hating Dwarves. |
| Hideous Phidias04-05-07, 12:05 AM | What feats do you have? What spells do you have? What world if any are you playing in? |
| Frylord04-05-07, 12:19 AM | What feats do you have? What spells do you have? What world if any are you playing in? 1. Diehard, Combat Casting, (They both fit his personality) 2.Blaster spells, mostly. 3. Homebrew Also, geekmaster, I toyed with that idea for a while, but I vastly prefer sorcerers and wizards to rangers... plus, I'm trying to have him be a speaker, and rangers aren't generally speakers.. Perhaps you could find an inqusitor-style PrC? The way I feel his personality is going to be played out points to that kind of PrC. Although, I kinda like the ranger idea more and more.. I'll give it some thought. |

I'll give it some thought. Give it lots of thought, because you have all the classic reasons to be a Ranger. You HATE a type of creature because of a past wrong, and are devoting yourself to it's eratication. You have studied them at length, know their strengths and weakness and where to strike. So tell me, does that sound like a Sorceror, or a Ranger to you? |
| Hideous Phidias04-05-07, 12:25 AM | Email? You may also want took through some of the excerpts, they have prestige classes from the different books in them. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/ex |

So tell me, does that sound like a Sorceror, or a Ranger to you? Yeah, I'll redo the sheet and change a little of the backstory. But you have to understand, I have VERY limited money, so I can't get any new source or splat or whatever they call those kind of books. So, is the foe-hunter on these boards, or in a book? If in a book, could you direct me to the ranger PrC's on these boards? Thanks again. |
| RobbyPants04-05-07, 12:09 PM | EDIT: Also, how do you put huge posts in a small box? Use "Sblocks". Basically, it's the same setup you use for code tags or quote tags. Just put "SBLOCK" inside of the square brackets. You can use an = sign in the first tag to set the caption. Just quote me to see the actual code ;) ... Insert backstory here... ... |
| Frylord04-05-07, 01:02 PM | [SBLOCK] Nazk Swifttongue was born to kindly plane-traveling goblin merchants, who saw fit to instruct their child that no creature should be hated, and that most people should be trusted. | The_Shaman04-05-07, 01:09 PM | Cmage has a way to get something like favored enemy for spells. Is there an elemental or another thematic your character enjoys (fire, ice, lightning, etc)? Wild mage is quite nice, although you must be chaotic... Weren't goblins chaotic, actually? If you're down to the DMG, I would suggest ranger/sorc/eldritch knight, but as neither ranger nor sorcerer was - afaik - the goblin's favored class, it might be a bit hard. If you can take a few rogue levels, arcane trickster could also be okay. |
| ShneekeyTheLost04-06-07, 12:22 AM | Some big tips for psudo-optimizing a Sorcerer: 1) use the PhB II variant. A familiar is nearly useless, spontaniously metamagic is not. 2) Mage of the Arcane Order PrC (Complete Mage or Complete Arcane, I think, it was also in Tome and Blood back in 3.0). You need to grab the feat Arcane Preparation to qualify, which sucks, but so worth it. Why? 1) you can get into it at 5th level, rather than 6th like most PrC's. 2) It gives you versitility that sorcerers normally don't have. You pay for it by effectively paying double for the spell, and can't use it many times per day, but when you need a spell desperately to save yourself and you don't have it in an item, it can save your bacon. 3) depending on rulings, it can be used to qualify for Archmage easier. 3) Incantatrix. Capstone ability -1 on your spell level adjustment for metamagic (minimum 0) rocks. Grab a crapton of metamagic feats, and abuse the heck out of your spontanious metamagic. In particular, grab Still and Silent spell so you can cast spells in any situation. Think about it, someone sees you casting, what's the first thing they're gonna do? Silence. Silent Spell, since you are a sorcerer, means you can cast ANY spell you know silently. So yea, doesn't take you out like it would most casters. Being grappled? A Still Hold Person will take the starch out of his shorts quickly. Captured, bound and gagged, tied up in a cell? Still Silent Shatter and your bonds are gone! Loosing your stuff doesn't hurt nearly as badly, and now you're seriously ****** and in the middle of their stronghold... without a fight! |
