| Cowjuicer02-16-08, 02:44 PM | Hello, fellow forumites. I am a DM w/ about 2 months of experience, DMing for 2 people with the same amount of time spent playing the game. I was looking over Prestige Classes (I won't implement them yet; it's just for familiarity with them) and there are a few things I don't understand. 1. What does (Ex) stand for? (Su) is Supernatural and (Sp) is spell-like, right? How are these determined? 2. There are separate tables for BAB and different Hit Dies for Prestige Classes than regular classes who might take them. If a character takes a level in such-and-such and rolls that class's hit die, they add to their normal HP, right? As for BAB, is that added to whatever BAB they already have from their other class(es)? That's all for now, but I might think of more later. |

Iterative attacks are determined from the total. HP is also straight addition. Roll the dice designated by the PrC or base class, and add your con to it, add that total to your HP total. EDIT: Another good source for you to use is the Dictionary of Terms also linked in my sig. Also in my sig are the X stat to Y bonus thread and various other sources for help. |
| Cowjuicer02-16-08, 02:52 PM | (ex) is extraodinary. Look it up in the SRD under 'special abilities". It's linked in my sig. Correct. Your BAB is an addition of your base class and PrC. Itterative attaks are determined from the total. HP is also straight addition. Roll the dice designated by the PrC or base class, and add your con to it, add that total to your HP total. Itterative attacks (spelling?) is where you've got a BAB of +x/+y, right? How does that work? You get a separate bonus and can make another attack with same weapon? I would like an explanation, please. Thank you. |
| dman1123502-16-08, 03:10 PM | It's under the Combat Basics section of the SRD I believe. If you can subtract 5 from your BAB and end up with a positive number, then you get another attack in a full attack. For examples, you can look at the fighter base class. At level 6 it has a BAB of +6, so you subtract 5 and have second attack at +1. Is that clear? I've never been really that good at explaining things. |
| Cowjuicer02-16-08, 03:26 PM | By second attack it's like being able to take another... erm... standard(?) action, am I right, but only with a weapon or spell? With the same weapon or no? |
| Cowjuicer02-16-08, 03:47 PM | I went and read the SRD section that contains that info. It means you get another attack with (I think) any other weapon, although you probably couldn't draw another weapon in that time. Thank you for directing me to the SRD! |
| dman1123502-16-08, 04:30 PM | I think you have it. I'm not in your head so I can't be sure, so here goes: When you have more attacks, you can make a full attack, and get more attacks with a sufficient BAB. Or, as a standard action, you can make a single attack. Spells are not affected by BAB, other than determining your bonus on attack rolls. The extra attacks are not standard actions, but rather a part of a full round action. You can't break it up at all. |
| Cowjuicer02-17-08, 12:53 PM | When you have more attacks, you can make a full attack, and get more attacks with a sufficient BAB. So normally I would make one attack with (for example) a dwarven waraxe as a full round action, but with a high enough BAB I could make two? Is that how it works? |
| dman1123502-17-08, 03:34 PM | Yes. In addition, as a standard action you can make a single attack. You can only gain the benefits of multiple attacks when you take a full attack action, unless you have an ability that explicitly states otherwise (feats, class features, etc). |
| Cowjuicer02-18-08, 11:41 AM | ...In addition, as a standard action you can make a single attack... I thought that was how it was normally. Argh! |
| dman1123502-18-08, 12:21 PM | What? Okay, right now, forget everything you know about attacks, specifically the number of times you can make them. As a standard action, you can make a single attack. This is called the attack action. As a full round action, you can make a full attack action, in which you can make every attack entitled to you be it from your BAB or Two Weapon Fighting, Flurry of Blows, and what have you. This make sense? |

This make sense? Ok, I get it now...:) 1. One action = one attack 2. High enough BAB or TWF or Flurry of Blows = extra attacks depending on whatever. Is that the final bit of info? Have I got it right now? At least I won't have to implement this stuff for the players for a few levels... |
| dman1123502-18-08, 01:41 PM | Just remember that you need to take a full attack action to claim more than one attack. |
