| Firestar2712-06-06, 10:20 AM | Is this a good prestige class? I would like constructive criticism. Please reply using PEACH standards. Also, is the name taken already? Note the Spells per Day increase is below the class features table. One with the Flame Requirements Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks Spells: Must be able to cast 3rd level arcane spells, Must be able to cast at least one spell with the fire descriptor of at least 2nd level or higher. Special: Must voluntarily give up a saving throw and take full damage from a spell with the fire descriptor of at least 2nd level or higher. The spell must offer a saving throw and deal hit point damage. Special: Must have the Summon Familiar class feature or the Obtain Familiar feat. Hit Die: d4 Class Features Class Skills: The One with the Flame’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are: Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Knowledge (arcane) (Int), Profession (Wis), Spellcraft (Int). See Chapter 4 of the PHB for all skill descriptions. Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. He doesn’t gain any other abilities that a character of that class would receive (bonus feats, more powerful familiar, etc.). If he has more than one arcane spellcasting class while gaining a level of One with the Flame, then he must choose which spellcasting progression to advance each time he gains a level of One with the Flame. Flame Enthroned (Su): A One with the Flame is surrounded by a small flame that does not hurt him or his allies. If someone attacks a One with the Flame in melee and hits, the enemy takes 1d6 points of fire damage. At 5th level, this increases to 1d8 points of damage. At 10th level, this increases to 1d10 points of damage. Fire Familiar: At 2nd level, a One with the Flame learns how to keep a small essence of fire with him at all times. He gains a small fire elemental as a familiar. He may only gain one if he has no familiar already. If he loses the fire elemental familiar, or he had a different familiar when he gain 2nd level and that familiar died, he may summon a new fire elemental familiar. His One with the Flame levels stack with Sorcerer or Wizard levels for the purpose of determining the familiar’s abilities. If he has the Obtain Familiar feat, then all of is arcane levels stack for the purposes of determining the familiar’s abilities (as through the feat’s effect). At 6th level the familiar increases in size to medium. At 8th level it increases in size to large. Resistance to Fire (Ex): At 3rd level, a One with the Flame builds up a resistance to the material that he works with. This gives a One with the Flame Resistance to Fire 5. At 7th level this increases to Resistance to Fire 10. Flaming Charm (Su): The flame that surrounds a One with the Flame makes him look more impressive. At 5th level this gives a One with the Flame a +2 enhance bonus to Charisma. One with the Flame: At 10th level a One with the Flame’s spirit becomes fire in its purest form. His eyes have the appearance of flames, though they don’t shed light or heat and their eyes continue to function as normal. His type changes to Outsider (native), however, unlike other outsiders he can be brought back from the dead. He gains Immunity to Fire. His Flaming Charm gives him a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma instead of the +2 enhancement bonus. |
| Firestar2712-06-06, 12:15 PM | sorry about the bad format. i copied it from Word and it didnt paste correctly. Im short on time know so i might not get fixed right now. ill try to fix it when i can. |
| Firestar2712-06-06, 12:32 PM | anyone know how to format it? i cant seem to get the colums to line up right. |
| Firestar2712-06-06, 08:11 PM | just made it a little easier to read. I still cant get the columns right but i put an explanation on the bottom to help. Maybe I could get the columns right, if SOMEONE BESIDES ME WOULD ACTUALLY POST AND HELP ME. :headexplo |
| Firestar2712-06-06, 09:16 PM | This is getting rediculous. Over 30 views and all the posts are by me. Can i please have some feedback? |
| Firestar2712-07-06, 09:03 AM | I have fixed the Format! Enjoy! |
| Throg12-07-06, 09:40 AM | Hmm, looks ok, though the Flame Sphere thing seems kind of weak. If I knew the rules on awakening spells or whatever it's called, I'd say them them a Flame Sphere familiar instead... Or how about they gain a Small Fire Elemental that replaces their current familiar, then it grows in size.. Medium at level 6 and Large at Level 10? That seems fair, since some prc give up only 1 spell casting level and gain a bunch of good abilities. |
| Firestar2712-07-06, 02:50 PM | Should i replace fireball as well to further the fire elemental's abilities. It should start out small right? Should i make the levels stack for familiar abilties as well as special abilities for the familiar for this class? That way a sorcerer/wizard One with the Flame will be better than a warmage/bard/other arcane guy One with the Flame. Finally somene else posted. |
| Typhir12-10-06, 10:59 PM | Should i replace fireball as well to further the fire elemental's abilities. It should start out small right? Should i make the levels stack for familiar abilties as well as special abilities for the familiar for this class? That way a sorcerer/wizard One with the Flame will be better than a warmage/bard/other arcane guy One with the Flame. Finally somene else posted. Personally, I wouldn't allow it to stack with familiar abilities, since that is all the sorcerer gets for advancement, but maybe giving the familiar extra abilities isn't too bad. Flaming Charm (Su): The flame that surrounds a One with the Flame makes him look more impressive. This gives a One with the Flame a +2 enhance bonus to Charisma. Giving +2 Charisma is a bit powerful at 1st level especially with the low entry requirements. I'd suggest pushing it back a bit to avoid people dipping into the prestige class. The fireball and flame sphere spell-like abilities is kind of meh. Maybe you should allow the character to spontaneously cast a spell with the fire descriptor? For a 7/10th casting prestige class, it feels a bit weak, especially when fire resistance is one of the more popular ones in D&D. Maybe bump it to a 9/10 caster, with caster level loss at 1st level. Oh, by the way, what is the hit die? I'm assuming d4. Just my two cents. |
| megageek1212-10-06, 11:48 PM | Well it seems kinda weak...Make flame enthroned more powerful. Whenever they hit your touch ac how bout'. |
| Firestar2712-12-06, 03:14 PM | yes the hit die is d4. Giving +2 Charisma is a bit powerful at 1st level especially with the low entry requirements. I'd suggest pushing it back a bit to avoid people dipping into the prestige class. When should he get the bonus then? The fireball and flame sphere spell-like abilities is kind of meh. Maybe you should allow the character to spontaneously cast a spell with the fire descriptor? What do you mean spontaneously cast? This is built for the sorcerer who can ONLY spontaneously cast. Should i put spontaneously cast fire spells of certain level and if the character can already spontaneously cast spells (sorcerer) then he should add a fire spell 1 level lower to his spells known? Personally, I wouldn't allow it to stack with familiar abilities, since that is all the sorcerer gets for advancement, but maybe giving the familiar extra abilities isn't too bad. What extra abilities then? |
| Typhir12-12-06, 11:23 PM | Hmm, for the +2 to Charisma, perhaps delaying it by a level or two is best. I think 3rd level or later is okay for this kind of bonus. It just shouldn't be at 1st level, because that leads to people dipping into the class to get a bonus. Ah, apologies. I was thinking in terms of the wizard, because as written a wizard can also enter the class. Perhaps you should change the spells requirement to read: Spells: Must be able to cast 3rd level arcane spells spontaneously, Must be able to cast at least one spell with the fire descriptor of at least 2nd level or higher. Maybe you can give the entering sorcerer bonus spells per day, like one extra fire spell per level of the prestige class, without the bonus spells counting against the total spells known. As for the familiar abilities, I'm not certain what can be added. Maybe grant the familiar fire resistance or allow it to cast a one first level fire spell of its master's choice? |
| Firestar2712-13-06, 12:28 PM | Maybe you can give the entering sorcerer bonus spells per day, like one extra fire spell per level of the prestige class, without the bonus spells counting against the total spells known. Wouldn't a bonus spell per level be too overpowered? Would a bonus spell at 2nd, 6th, and 8th level (of the class, not spell level) at their highest casting ability be good? So i'll get rid of flaming sphere and fireball as spell-like abilties, add a bonus fire spell per day at 2nd, 6th, and 8th levels, and give familiar abilites. Is that good? (not gonna change before i find out if its good or not to save me the trouble of changing back.) For the familiar abilities, should i give him a fire elemental familiar and increase size like Throg said, or should i give his current familiar bonus fire abilites? Should i make the familiar abilities that normal sorcerers get stack with One with the Flame levels? |
| Firestar2712-20-06, 10:23 AM | :bump: |
| Firestar2712-23-06, 10:28 PM | Ok, i fixed the spells per day to give full except level 1. Should i still change the flaming sphere and fireball? (i know to move flaming charm down, but i want it to either replace the flaming sphere or just add it on.) |
| Archmage_of_Blood12-24-06, 04:24 PM | One with the Flame: At 10th level a One with the Flame becomes one with the flame. His type changes to Outsider (native), however, unlike other outsiders he can be brought back from the dead. He gains Immunity to Fire. His Flaming Charm gives his a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma instead of the +2 enhancement bonus.[/sblock] You should now take double damage from cold damage or something, in the same way other immune-to-fire creatures do. |
| Firestar2712-24-06, 11:41 PM | You should now take double damage from cold damage or something, in the same way other immune-to-fire creatures do. You mean cold vulnerability? I don't know, don't other PrC's get immunes without getting vulnerability (The elementist, if i got the name right, from complete arcane?) |

| Firestar2701-07-07, 08:32 PM | i made flame enthroned better, pushed flaming charm up a few levels, removed the Flaming Sphere and Fireball per day, added fire elemental familiar. I also added a requirement to have the ability to gain a familiar. |
| megageek1201-07-07, 11:40 PM | Possibly a little more drastic... |
| Firestar2701-08-07, 12:40 PM | Possibly a little more drastic... What was drastic? Are you saying my changes were too drastic or that they should be more drastic? It's not as much as it looks. I just stopped it from being good for dipping into, and i replaced Flaming Sphere and Fireball with a familiar. and i upped flame enthroned by one hit die. Only 1 big change, and 2 little changes. |

That would make flame enthroned way too powerful. It is not meant as an offensive attack. More like fire shield (i think). Just a way to stop monsters from attacking you the second time. Note the Spells per Day increase is below the class features table. please note all my criticism is positive One with the Flame Requirements Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks Spells: Must be able to cast 3rd level arcane spells, Must be able to cast at least one spell with the fire descriptor of at least 2nd level or higher. It was supposed to be at level 1 but then someone said it would be a level dip only class if it stayed that way. If i say that it takes up a head slot, would that make it level 4 or even level 3? (as opposed to the current no slot.) I agree that 1 empty level or even 2 is good for a class. 3 is good for a class with amazing abilities. But this is not on the amazing abilities scale. 3 dead levels is a little much, i think. One with the Flame: At 10th level a One with the Flame becomes one with the flame. His type changes to Outsider (native), however, unlike other outsiders he can be brought back from the dead. He gains Immunity to Fire. His Flaming Charm gives him a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma instead of the +2 enhancement bonus. move the charm improvement into charm, and why dose he become outsider that’s going just a bit far, instead maybe say fire glows in his eyes What do you mean to move the charm improvement into charm? Do you mean to make flaming charm start as a +4 enhancement and not improve it? I guess if it started at level 5 like you said. He becomes an outsider because he deals with qualities of the elemental plane of fire. The elementist becomes outsider. So do many PrCs. It's really not much. It just stops things like charm person or hold person. (note the "person" part). I should add the fire glow in his eyes though. Really cool. The Format Has Been FIXED!!!!!!! Thanks for the help, but i'm a little confused as to why you want three dead levels. If you had to rank importance for what to move, and what not to move, what would it be? | Firestar2701-18-07, 09:24 PM | I moved the final Flame Enthroned to level 10. I added a little fluff in the ability descriptions. It is obvious what is fluff and what is not. I also moved Flaming Charm up a level to level 5. I was considering changing the name. One with the Flame sounds weird (A One with the Flame gets this... sound unusual. Noone says "A one..."). I was thinking of *insert magic related title* of the Flame. Like maybe Shaper of the Flame. What do you think? |
| benstundze01-18-07, 09:42 PM | I moved the final Flame Enthroned to level 10. I added a little fluff in the ability descriptions. It is obvious what is fluff and what is not. | benstundze01-18-07, 09:47 PM | Is this a good prestige class? I would like constructive criticism. Please reply using PEACH standards. Also, is the name taken already? His Flaming Charm gives him a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma instead of the +2 enhancement bonus. thanks ben |
