Optimizing my Reaping Mauler [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-11-07, 04:23 PM I am building a Reaping mauler starting with the race Shifter from Eberron.

Level 14.

What is the best way to create a optimized Reaping Mauler?

So far I was going with

5 Levels in Swashbuckler _ Complete Warrior

5 Levels in Reaping Mauler _ Complete Warrior

and

4 Levels in The Warshaper _ Complete Warrior

I need advice on what is the best feats, items, and weapons to add to this character.

I don't have to be a Swashbuckler nor a warshaper but I want to build the best Shifter Reaping Mauler possible and I need advice from the D&D players...Thank you.

But I like to do it with fighter lvs just so I can have Weapon Specialisation (Spiked Armor), I guess you can do it with a Warshaper also but it will take a few more lvs to get there. The whole Swashbuckler thing is good if you have a INT of 16 or higher for some reason. sadly Im at work and I dont Have My books with me so I can't really give you a "whorthy" advice but Ill try....

FEATS:
W.Special.(spike armor)
Mage slayer (CA) if you get close enough to grapple a spellcaster... "Is over".
Clever wrestler.
(Dang it! Can't think of nothing right now....)

Oh oh you MUST get some "Gloves of the Titan". as soon as i get bak home I'll give you something more specific.

10-12-07, 07:37 PM I would suggest changing the race to Goliath. They get the whole Large size bonus to grapple while still being medium.
Made a Goliath Monk/Fighter/Reaping Mauler loosley the other day, he had some 25 in grapple modifier (BA +10, str 25), that's without the Reaping Mauler bonuses. Plus he gets the clever wrestling bonuses.
You should also consider a lvl Warblade for some nice stances that grants bonuses to grapple, constrict or similar.

10-12-07, 07:54 PM I second the change to Goliath. It nets you a +6 bonus to Grapple Checks, just because of racial attributes. +4 size from powerful build, and +2 from the Strength Bonus. Also, I once made a Goliath Monk 1/Barbarian 6/Reaping Mauler 5, using the Barbarian 1st level sub-level, that changes your size. This gives some crazy grapple modifiers, with a high enough strength. Combined it with the Fling Enemies feat for good damage.

*siren* Wrong! You can't do this, as you'd lose your prerequisite feat for Reaping Mauler if you become larger than medium.

Unless, of course, you gain Clever Wrestling as a bonus feat. There is a class in Stormwrack that gives it at, I think, 3rd level as a bonus feat regardless of whether you qualify for it or not. Leviathan Slayer?

I'd add in a couple of levels of Psychic Warrior for Expansion if you're going the Goliath route. Mountain Rage sets your size at Large, +2 catagories for Augmented Expansion, and whee! I'd only drop a couple of levels in Psywar, though, max 5 for that bonus feat and 2nd 2nd level power. Plus, Dorjes only cost 7,875gp for Augmented Expansion (half that if you get a friendly party psywar/erudite to craft them for free :) )

Goliath Ranger 1/Barbarian 3/Psywar 2/Leviathan Slayer 3/Reaping Mauler 5

can activate his dorje and become Gargantuan, then grapple the foo's and kill them. Loses a feat to Iron Will, but gains two bonus feats. Take Extra Rage if you can :)

To be honest, Shifter doesn't really mesh that well with grappling in my experience.
