He/she gains a +1 dodge bonus to his/her AC while wielding a longspear, this bonus increases to +2 at 5th level and to +3 at 9th level. Dancing Cobra (Sp): Dangerous serpents are known for their color patterns, movements or the sounds they make before they strike, viper spearman are no different. At 2nd level, a viper spearman can make a Perform (weapons drill) check as a standard action to strike fear into those he/she is about to fight. Any target that can see the viper spearman during this performance must make a Will save (DC 10 + ½ the elite spearman’s class level + his/her charisma modifier) or be shaken for 1d4 plus ½ his/her class level rounds. This ability is an Enchantment (Charm) [Mind-Affecting] ability. Coiled Grip (Ex): At 3rd level, a viper spearman suffers no penalties for using a longspear against adjacent foes. Venomous Strike (Ex): At 4th level, a viper spearman learns to inflict terrible damage with his/her weapon of choice. By taking a full-attack action a viper spearman can modify his/her grip on a longspear to perform a Venomous Strike. On a successful attack the viper spearman adds twice his/her strength modifier to the damage (normal 1 ½ x), in addition anyone struck by a Venomous Strike must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + ½ the elite spearman’s class level + his/her intelligence modifier) or become sickened to 1d4 plus ½ his/her class level rounds. A viper spearman may use this ability a number of times per day equal to ½ his/her class level round down. Serpent’s Tail (Ex): At 5th level, a viper spearman learns to use the blunt end of his/her longspear to trip his/her opponents while in close combat. While using the Coiled Grip ability (see above) a viper spearman is treated as having the Improved Trip feat. This ability does not function against foes that are not adjacent to the elite spearman. Coiled Strike (Ex): Like a coiled snake a viper spearman can strike those further away than normal. At 6th level, a viper spearman has mastered the reach of a longspear. From now on an elite spearman threatens all enemies within 15 feet of him/her self. Sudden Strike (Ex): At 7th level, a viper spearman has become a true threat to those charging blindly ahead. A viper spearman can set his/her longspear for a charge as a free action. Furthermore, a viper spearman deals triple damage against a charging opponent on a successful hit. Piercing Fangs (Ex): At 8th level, a viper spearman ads a +2 circumstance bonus to all weapon damage rolls while using a longspear. This bonus stacks other similar abilities such as weapon specialization and greater weapon specialization. Keen Fangs (Ex): At 9th level, a viper spearman has learned to strike where it hurts the most. The threat range of an elite spearman’s longspear is considered one better. This ability stacks with those granted by the Improved Critical feat. Snapping Cobra (Ex): At 10th level, a viper spearman has become as quick as a cobra while wielding his/her longspear. When taking a full-attack action a viper spearman can make one extra attack that round at his/her highest base attack bonus, but this attack and each other attack taken that round suffers a -2 penalty. This penalty applies for one round, so it also affect any attack of opportunity the viper spearman may take that round. A viper spearman can not use the Snapping Cobra ability against adjacent foes. |
