| JulesCARV05-06-07, 03:29 AM | "Well, personally I'm opposed to the construction of the new royal bridge over the Kinemes River, because I believe that the project's expense is unjustifiably high from a civil engineering perspective, and that there is significant padding and corruption involved in its construction, although I certainly understand the necessity of quicker travel between North and South banks of the Kinemes for commerce, royal army operations, and other purposes, and I understand how others might view the bridge as a necessity regardless of its expense, so I think that a decent respect for a diversity of opinion and a common civility and assumption of good faith is necessary for satisfactory resolution of this -- I'm sorry, are you tired? Maybe it's a bit late for you. I'll take you home and we can discuss it further on the way. No, I insist on escorting you back -- you've had half a glass of wine, so you must be a bit tipsy, and I wouldn't want you getting lost." -- Baldor Micah, Knight of the Dull Tongue Paladins have a reputation for being a sober lot. For some, this reputation is undeserved. Indeed, recently there have been a proliferation of paladins who have found less restrictive, looser codes -- Shadowbane Inquisitors, Grey Guards, Hypocrite Paladins, Holy Liberators, and the like. Knights of the Dull Tongue, on the other hand, take the paladin's reputation for dull, earnest, well-meaning seriousness to an extreme. Knights of the Dull Tongue have a well-deserved reputation for liking Frank Capra films, Norman Rockwell illustrations, and, in some extreme cases, Thomas Kinkade paintings. They don't drink, smoke, flirt, or joke. They constantly involve themselves in a bewildering array of dull, technical policy issues, such as the most efficient way of reducing poverty. They attend temple services every week. They tend to speak in a somewhat monotonous tone. They see nothing particularly humorous about Ned Flanders, although they like his character nonetheless. A Knight of the Dull Tongue's dullness actually works in his favor, however. The Knights have the capacity to reduce their enemies to such boredom that they fall asleep. (although sometimes these knights do not formally recognize them as enemies: frequently, a party might come across a group of evil gnolls, and the knight of the dull tongue, after detecting them as evil, will attempt to engage the gnolls in a "civil and mutually enriching discussion of differences in perspective," or the like.) Prerequisites: Alignment: Lawful Good Feat: Diligent Must have a special mount Hit die: d10 Skill points: 2 + int Class skills: As paladin, and also add knowledge (history) and knowledge (local). Levels: 10 Base Attack Bonus: 1/1, as fighter Fortitude save: Good Reflex save: Poor Will save: Good Paladin features: A paladin who becomes a Knight of the Dull Tongue may continue to advance as a paladin. In addition, Knight of the Dull Tongue levels stack with Paladin levels for the purposes of Smite Evil damage, Lay On Hands usage, special mount, and effective cleric level for turning undead, although not daily usages of smite evil or remove disease. Dull Monologue (ex): As a 1 round action, as an extraordinary ability, a knight of the dull tongue can duplicate the effect of the sleep spell, except that it only targets one creature at a time, it has no hit die cap, and the save DC is equal to 10 + the KotDT's class level + cha modifier. A creature that sucessefully resists the dull monologue is immune for 24 hours. Creatures immune to sleep, such as elves, are also immune to the dull monologue. The Dull Monologue is also a language-dependent ability. Lore: Due to their constant attention to the minutiae of history, politics, law, bureaucracy, and other dull matters, Knights of the Dull Tongue obtain a lore ability equivalent to Bardic Knowledge. Spellcasting: On every even level (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10), Knight of the Dull Tongue levels increase previous paladin spellcasting, if any. |
| Ebonblade_Reaper05-06-07, 08:11 AM | This class is a fine idea. Really. But I'd rather make this class a prc for rogues... especially those who focus on diplomacy and the like. Or for Bards. Just imagine, a scoundrel walks through the market place in front of the group and won't stop talking... the group'll get a good lot of stuff priceless, I bet. :D |
