The guardian must declare his or her intention to place him or herself in harm's way before the attack roll is made. The guardian can't change his or her ally for the duration of the combat. Combat senes (ex): This ability allows an guardian of 2nd level or higher to receive a +1 competence bonus on attacks. It increase to +8 at 3rd level, +12 at 6th level, and +16 at 9th level. This ability can be used as a free action. I am going for a bodyguard Npc to go with the Nobility in my campaign. New feat Loyal [General] The character is dependable and trustworthy, and may make a better follower than leader. Benefit: The Loyal character gains +2 bonus to all saving throws. Special: Loyal characters always attach themselves to another person or group, whom they feel is worthy of their devotion. To gain the benefit of this feat, the Loyal character must declare with whom their loyalty lies. If he or she fails to role-play this loyality, the GM is free to remove the benefit of this feat. The character may change their loyalties if the situations calls for it (like the death of his or her old boss, or falling in love). When attempting to use the Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate, and Sense Motive on the target of his or her loyality, the Loyal character suffers a -2 penalty to his or her Skill checks. | claypigeons12-14-06, 05:27 AM | First, I would like to point out that the title of this thread is literally "Please Please Examine And Critique Honestly". I'm not sure what the 'N' is before Prestige Class is though.... Combat senes (ex): This ability allows an guardian of 2nd level or higher to designate a single opponent during his or her action and receive a +1 competence bonus on attacks against that oppnent. The guardian can select a new oppnent on any action. At 8th level, the competence bonus increases to +2. My bolding. BROKEN. Any action... so you could get +1 on every attack of oppurtunity, as well as every attack you make on your turn? Change "action" to turn, which is what I think you mean. Aside from that... It doesnt really do anything. I suppose as an NPC class (which is what you designed it for) it's alright traveling with the party. |

I'm not sure what the 'N' is before Prestige Class is though.... Yeah that's what I meant. N is for Non-player. My bolding. BROKEN. Any action... so you could get +1 on every attack of oppurtunity, as well as every attack you make on your turn? Change "action" to turn, which is what I think you mean. I did mean every action. That's not really that broken a +1 to hit at ECL 5 and +2 at ECL 11 isn't really that much. Aside from that... It doesnt really do anything. I suppose as an NPC class (which is what you designed it for) it's alright traveling with the party. Thank you for your critque. |
| Oswald Krato12-14-06, 12:28 PM | I think you're looking for the 3.0 Sword and Fist Devoted Defender. Same HD, but more of an emphasis on finding the dangers (sense skill requirements instead of knowledges). |
| claypigeons12-14-06, 03:58 PM | I did mean every action. That's not really that broken a +1 to hit at ECL 5 and +2 at ECL 11 isn't really that much. If you open this class up to your players, you might think about changing it. A +1 (+2 later) bonus to hit is actually pretty effective. I'm not sure on the exact conversion rate, but +1 to hit is equal to a few damage. Just a thought. |

A +1 can turn into 1-3 points of damage with proper feats. |
| SilentOne12-14-06, 05:13 PM | Just wondering... if he can change it on ANY action, why make him select whatsoever? Any time he would make an attack he can change it to get the bonus, so just make it apply to all attack rolls. If you think about it this way... it's like Weapon Focus and Greater Weapon Focus, without prerequisites, and applying to all weapons. Just pointing that out. Other than that, I find it somehow much too funny that lawful strike adds a variable amount of damage. For flavor reasons alone I would probably change this to a flat bonus (which is also good for critical hits). Observations I think gives twice the bonus it should... maybe reduce it to just the Bodyguard's class level as a bonus? Remember when applying this that the character needs to take a move action to make a Spot check after the reflexive one granted by the provoking action. Defensive Strike... limit it to the number of attacks of opportunity the character can make each round? Iterive attacks might be better actually, if you're insistant on keeping this ability (I don't like it, especially in it's current form, which means that a) i get better AC and b) your lower bonus iterive attacks provoke full bonus attacks from me) |

Why reduce the guardian is suppose to be better at finding danger then the rest of the group. | Leress12-20-06, 05:55 PM | Upated the class. |
| SilentOne12-20-06, 06:03 PM | Why reduce the guardian is suppose to be better at finding danger then the rest of the group. This ability comes in after all the other characters have had a chance to observe that wouldn't take a move action.Changed. However, the check is instantaneous and simultaneous only as a reflexive action, such as when the DM calls for a Spot check to notice a rogue sneaking up on the party. However, if the player wants to try to actively look for the rogue, it takes a move action to peer about, not another free action. Action Varies. Every time you have a chance to spot something in a reactive manner you can make a Spot check without using an action. Trying to spot something you failed to see previously is a move action. To read lips, you must concentrate for a full minute before making a Spot check, and you can’t perform any other action (other than moving at up to half speed) during this minute. See? So it's not just that the bodyguard rolls last and thus is looking around after everyone else has, but he needs to conciously take the time to look once the initial reaction is over. --------- Is there any reason why Skin as Armor changes the piercing metal type? It could just go DR 5/adamantine, to 10, to 15, and still be good. By the way, you didn't change Defensive Strike. |
