Phantom Guardian v0.1

The noble Paladin Antonius snarled at the warlock as it launched its eldritch attack, he'd hunted this one down in retaliation for the callous murder of his mount. He focused on the remaining portion of the link to his animal friend and ally, calling on its spirit to aid his actions in the comming battle, drawing forth the spectral creature who remained and with a flash of light, Callidon the steed burst into being beside him to the shock of the Warlock as he easily slipped onto his friend.

"You see, some links surpass even death," he stated calmly as he charged with his lance at the ready.

Phantom Guardians come from all races and walks of life. From the noble paladin, to the rogue with a friendly steed. What they do all have in common is the loss of a friend that was tied to their spirit with a hope beyond death to draw them back to aid their friends.

Class Features:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Phantom Guardian gains proficiency with all types of Lances if he does not already possess them and no proficiencies with armor or shields.

Phantom Steed (Sp): A number of times per day equal to your levels in Phantom Guardian plus your Charisma modifier, you may cast Phantom Steed as a spell like ability using your HD as the Caster level except the Phantom steed does not gain additional abilities based on your HD. At levels 3, 5, 7, & 9 these abilities are granted as if you were at the caster levels of 8, 10, 12, & 14 for these abilities.

At level 10, you may use this ability at will.

You may dismiss your steed as a free action that provokes an attack of opportunity as long as you are not astride your mount.

Hells Horseman (Ex): When mounted you may add your class level to all Intimidate checks you make as well as any Handle Animal and Ride checks with your Spirit Horse. Further, when making a Charge, you may make an Intimidate check to Demoralize the target as a free action.

Spirit Horse (Su): Unlike the Wizards use of the Phantom Steed, yours is the bound spirit of your former mount. It gains bonus' based on your class level as if it were alive. Levels in this class stack with those of other classes to determine the abilities granted. Further, you may spend an hour attuning any equipment to your mount to equip it with the items if they would fit a normal mount of the type. Your mount is treated like any other animal of its kind for its stats save it is ethereal (The Phantom Steed spell like ability temporarily making it corporeal once more)

Skill Focus (Ride): You gain the Skill Focus Feat for the Ride skill as a bonus feat.

Dark Knight (Su): When mounted on your Spirit Horse, you gain the Frightful Presence ability with a DC equal to 10+class level+Charisma modifier

Swiftness of Spirit (Ex): The Base Speed of your mount doubles

Faithful Mount (Ex): Your Spirit Horse ability and Phantom Steed Spell Like Ability are Extrordinary abilities rather than Supernatural and Spell Like.

Transcendant Phantom (Ex): Your Mount gains the Half-Fiend or Half-Celestial template that matches your alignment most.

Paladins: A Paladin who takes levels as a Phantom Guardian may continue to advance as a Paladin.

That's strange, iirc there is already a Phantom Knight PrC... something like the Eldritch Knight, full BAB arcane caster.

BTW, does the swiftness of spirit stack with the speed improvement from phantom speed?

Nice class, I would definitely be tempted by this as a Paladin. I do have one question. A Paladin who takes this PrC that has feats that effect his Special Mount (like Celestial Charger) gain the benefits from the feat for the Phantom Steed?

This is a really cool PrC. Anything mountable is usable by this PrC? For instance, my druid has a dire wolf. Would the Phantom steed have all of the dire wolf abilities in addition to the spell abilities?

Didn't know there was already one, I'll try to think of a new name for this.
Swiftness of Spirit does stack with the Phantom Steeds speed increases.

That's what I was aiming for Spirit Horse to do, all improvements to your mount remain with it.

As long as its a trained mount, meaning you have to train it to carry you, which I believe is already covered in the rules.

It's called the Knight Phantom.

Sounds good. If I may suggest it though, add in something about having lost a mount in the prereqs.
