Platinum Armor and the Vassal of Bahamut [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-07-07, 02:22 AM OK, I have a quick question about the Vassal of Bahamut PrC listed in the BoED. One of the class abilities listed for it is Platinum armor, which basically makes it so the Vassal can make a suit of armor out of the scales of a juvenile or older Red Dragon it has killed. It also says that you cannot make more than one suit at a time, but my question is, can you make the suit for yourself, and make one for your mount at the same time, if you have a special mount, either from a class ability or having purchased one? Or, for that matter, a shield for your suit as well, and if so, what would be the bonuses for the shield?

That is because it is another creature.

08-07-07, 12:27 PM What about making a shield as well as your suit? Would that still have the +8 bonus the mail gives as well?

08-08-07, 02:56 AM Nope. The armor is a chainshirt. A shield made out of chainlinks wouldn't give much protection at all.
Per RAW you can only make ONE armor and only armor. Not shields or barding. The barding bit might be allowed for a special mount by your DM. But per RAW it's not allowed.

08-08-07, 03:16 PM Read the first line. "A vassel of Bahamut is granted the ability to create platinum scal mail." It only has properties of a masterwork chain shirt(+4 max dex, -1 armor chack, ect). I would say you can make a sheild, but it requires either a large enough dragon, or a second one. I would give it +2 bonus but treat it like a masterwork light sheild or maybe even a buckler, weight-wise.

As a DM I would allow the charcter to make a Dragonhide Shield. Would function as Wooden Shield (no special bonuses or anything), IF the char had enough dragonhide after he/she finished his/her armor.

08-09-07, 12:03 PM That sounds more than reasonable to me. I think barding would be pushing it. If you want barding, buy it or make it, but it would be normal.
