PrC ? for a Ranger/Druid [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-22-08, 07:23 AM I am going to be starting a savage tide campaign, mostly water-based, and I thought it would be awesome to have a water-based animal companion. I have been scouring the few books I have and havn't been able to come up with much to compliment the base class. Anyone have any ideas?

02-22-08, 09:11 AM Stormwrack has water-based animal companions listed for the Druid (which I assume you can just move over to the Ranger).

And what does this have to do with PrCs?

But a one-level dip in the Beastmaster PrC from CAdv might help, if you're looking for an improved Animal Companion. The level itself adds one to your equivalent druid level for determining your animal companion, and, in addition, gives you +3 to your equivalent level. So a druid 6/BM 1 would have the animal companion of a 10th level druid. And a Ranger 6/BM 1 would have that of a 7th level druid. And if you take the feat that adds 3 (up to your HD) to your druid level, you can apply that to the 6th level ranger levels to be the equivalent of a 6th level druid, THEN add the 4 levels from BM, and your Ranger 6/BM 1 would have the animal companion of a 10th level druid.

i.e. at 7th level your aquatic druid/ranger could have an orca animal companion.

Of course, the other 9 levels of Beastmaster are horrible, and I'd question the sanity of anyone who took it, but that one level dip is nice.

02-22-08, 06:12 PM Do you only care about the companion? Weird. The wavekeeper seemed okay-ish last time I tried it - nothing great like the Windwalker, certainly, but quite tolerable. F&P has the Waveservant, but it's kinda weird for a ranger - few skill points, no companion progression, and some weird abilities. Oh, and you worship a CE deity that's called the ***** Queen.

02-22-08, 06:15 PM Shular is absolutely right about the Beast Master. My opinion is that your best bet is to just go straight druid, take the dip, then talk to the guys over at the Monsters forum for suggestions on what animals to take.
