| TunFiskeMad03-29-07, 06:12 PM | Well by the answer I got in another thread I got kinda confused and me and my friends have been discussing this some. The problem is I cant seem to find the answer anywere so ill try here: Is a PrC that get +1 spellcasting class(divine or what ever) pr lvl or something like that, considered a spellcastingclass like wizards and the like ? Also if you combine Ur-priest with one of those would it actually give you casterlvls twice. First for adding to Ur-priest lvls and then because of the way you calculate the Ur-priests casterlvl ? (this has more or less been answered once but it seemed to "weird" for me to believe that a class would lend its lvls twice) |
| General_Ridley03-29-07, 08:42 PM | +1 level blah blah classes aren't casting classes. They add to existing classes, but don't have their own spellcasting. They add 1 to Ur-Priest, and that's it. |

Not twice. Ur-priests only get their own progression, but it can be improved by other PrCs (although imo this is quite weird, given the Ur-Priests' unique method of gaining divine spells). |
| The_Shaman03-30-07, 09:42 AM | N.P. |
| Kresalak03-30-07, 09:53 AM | Ur-Priests do get increased twice; one from the "+1 Spellcasting" feature of the PrC, and one half from the Ur-Priest's Spellcasting feature, which looks at all his classes, and adds one half the levels in any class (other than Ur-Priest) that has the Spellcasting class feature. So a Wizard 5/Mindbender 1/Ur-Priest 2/Mystic Theurge 4 casts as a 10th level Wizard (CL 10) and a 6th level Ur-Priest (CL 11). A Cleric 5/Ur-Priest 2/PrC 6 casts as an 8th level Ur-Priest with a CL of 13(.5). |

That is the only way to get the numbers you have :). The first poster claimed they werent spellcastingclasses. Sorry again for the confusion but I really need to know this. :) |
| General_Ridley03-30-07, 09:00 PM | I don;t think they're considered spellcasting classes because they don't gain their own spellcasting. They advance spellcasting in another class, and serve more as "spellcasting-improvement" classes. |
| Kresalak03-30-07, 09:01 PM | So according to you (like in the other thread) if you have +1 spellcasting class you count as a spellcasting class ? That is the only way to get the numbers you have :). The first poster claimed they weren't spellcasting classes. Sorry again for the confusion but I really need to know this. :) If a class has a class feature called "Spellcasting" or "Spells Per Day/Spells Known" or the like, it is a spellcasting class by definition. So yes. All this serves to do is allow an Ur-Priest to get a caster level of 24, if he was a Cleric 5/Ur-Priest 1/PrC 14. It's high, but it's not crazy-awesome, especially since you only have like 2 or 3 9th level spells. |
| The_Shaman03-30-07, 10:10 PM | Er, where did you get that from? AFAIK if it has spellcasting and it specializes its own caster level, that's what you get. In this case, as it's mentioned, Ur-priest level + 1/2 the other spellcasting classes. No more, no less. If that seems too little, please remember it's a PrC that steals power from the gods, not gets it with their blessing. A spellcasting class does not add its progression twice. Caster level 24... Pre-epic? That's not just high, it's plain stunning. I'd hit it like an angry god a city of sinners. Then I'd add hierophant levels and a little more for the fun of it. Anyone for some unholy word fun, or for cracking up those lvl 9 spells at lvl 15? |
| Kresalak03-30-07, 10:38 PM | Prestige classes used to advance Ur-Priest spellcasting both advance Ur-Priest spellcasting and count as spellcasting classes. Since they count as spellcasting classes, you also add 1/2 their level to your caster level, since the Ur-Priest ability doesn't care that they've already added to your spellcasting. |
| The_Shaman03-30-07, 10:53 PM | I think that'd be an abuse of the rule, to be honest. It should either count as "other spellcasting classes" (as the "other" spellcasting classes) or towards the Ur-priest spellcasting (if they count as UP levels), but not both (unless you have it specifically mentioned by official sources, it should be either boosting UP levels or counting as the "others"). It's like having your cake and eating it, too. Leave that to the Radiant Servant and Planar Shepherd. The case with other PrCs boosting the Ur-priest's caster level if iffy enough as it is imo. |
| Kresalak03-30-07, 11:06 PM | It may be abusive, but it's what the rules say. I suggest just having the Ur-Priest's caster level equal his character level. |
| TunFiskeMad03-30-07, 11:16 PM | Thank you everyone for the answers and the small discussion wich seems along the lines of what me and my friend have been at. I will admit its cheesy and i might not abuse it - but I just wanted to know how it was according to the actual rules then we could fixe the powerlvl of it ourselves after that. Thank you all again :) |
