PrC that gives you spellcastying + PrC that progresses spellcasting [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-15-07, 02:33 PM I was making a Chameleon a while ago and came across an issue:

What happens when you take a PrC that has it's own casting progression, like Chameleon, or Assasin, etc, and then take a PrC that progresses casting, but go beyond the levels of casting the class has.

So, you take 5 levels of something, then take 10 levels in a ten level PrC that has it's own casting, and then one or more levels in a PrC that adds to a classes casting and choose the other PrC?

This issue doesn't come up with base classes cause they all have 20 levels of casting. But PrCs do not.

10-15-07, 02:58 PM RAW: You choose to advance any spellcasting class you have with the +1 spellcasting progression. Thus, after advancing the Chameleon's spellcasting progression as far as it goes, you can either advance another class' spellcasting progression that you have levels in, or advance no class' spellcasting - in other words, it is wasted.

Otherwise, talk to your DM about adapting a further spellcasting progression for the Chameleon (or other custom spellcasting progression class) or trading the spellcasting progression for some other abilities.

10-15-07, 03:13 PM Most spell casting classes have like a pattern to their spells.

Say you are an assassin and you go over your spell casting abilities you could just keep adding spells per day in the same pattern.

I believe thats how epic level base classes work as well.But im not 100% sure. Since their max spell level is 9. So you could do something similar to it.

Or you can talk with your DM about adding in a new level of spells for the class.

No. Spells known/per day do not advance further than what is on the chart for any class.

@OP: You can either keep adding it to Chameleon, gaining CL but not spells per day. Or you can add it to another casting class.

10-17-07, 07:48 PM You can upgrade PrC spellcasting with another PrC's +1/level spellcasting, but once you cap out the spellcasting, you dont get any more spells/day, just caster level.
However, in the specific instance on the Chameleon, remember:
Class Features

The chameleon's class features allow you to adopt a variety of roles, from armored warrior to spellcaster to sneaky rogue.

You can't use any abilities gained from your aptitude focus, ability boon, or mimic class feature abilities to qualify for a feat, prestige class, or other option. You can use your bonus feat to qualify for such options, but if you change the feat, you suffer the normal drawbacks for no longer meeting a prerequisite or requirement.
