Divisionbyzer0 01-27-08, 03:21 AM	My friend is playing a bard / fighter and is interesting in possibly taking a PrC. He's a half giant bard 6 / fighter 2. He's got a ridiculously high cha, a moderately high strength, mediocre con and wisdom, and I think an above average intelligence. I think he should leave the bard after getting inspire courage +2. He wants to wait for 4th level spells. His feats (not chosen by him... he didn't make the character) are improved initiative, skill focus perform (this is an utter waste of a feat IMO given his high cha), quick draw, rapid reload, and weapon focus rapier or longsword. I'm not entirely sure of his skills but I know he has a fair amount of social ones and knowledge ones. I haven't played a bard since 2nd edition riddle master which was ages ago, so I really don't know what is available for them in terms of options at this point. He's pretty much been taking the role as the leader spokesman / and supportive fighter. Any ideas on possibilities for him? Could prolly persuade the DM into letting him fudge the skill focus into a different feat if some PrC would require it.
Cartigan 01-27-08, 09:46 AM	War Chanter? He will need Combat Expertise in combo with the WF. There is Bladesinger but its feats area all over the place. Well if you were an elf.

From a pure power/optimization perspective, nothing will beat going into Sublime Chord for the base build he already has, which will net him 4th level spells in 2 character levels and a fast spell progression after that. Levels in Crusader and Mythic Exemplar could also work if he wants more of a beat-down character. Or War Chanter as Cartigan suggested.

Not entirely sure in which direction he wants to take the character. He seems interested in continuing his spell progression, obviously. So I don't think he would want the War Chanter. I'm looking through the Complete Warrior, and it seems like the Spell Sword would be available to him also. I can't find much on the Sublime Chord, but I see some people saying it's broken if you play it in a certain manner? Can you elaborate on some its features?

Could you elaborate on what "people" are saying, and where? Possibly something to do with using it in conjunction with dual-spellcasting progression classes such as the Mystic Theurge? The Sublime Chord gets a fast casting progression, which I already stated. You can take a look at it in the Complete Arcane for further details.

It's hard to follow the discussions without knowing the class features of the things they are talking about. And I know the class is the complete arcane. It's hard to follow the discussions without knowing the class features of the things they are talking about. Well, basically, the class goes from 4th level casting to 9th level casting in 9 levels. If you combine that with a divine caster class with its own fast progression - such as the Ur-Priest - and then advance both casting progressions at the same time with a class such as the Mystic Theurge, you end up with 9th level arcane and divine casting by 20th level. It's still not even that great, definitely not broken, but it is a powerful combination. A straight-classed Sublime Chord is strong, but nowhere near broken. And I know the class is the complete arcane.
