I was thinking Assassin, because it has full sneak attack progression, but its got a few flaw (I'd rather have no spells and more combat related things) I really like the idea of Poison use and Hide in Plain sight (Not so much the latter) so classes with those abilities are also cool. |
| The_Shaman02-08-07, 09:32 PM | For combat, nightsong enforcer is probably your best bet: 4d6 SA damage, full BAB, and some of the high-level rogue abilities. The ronin (CW), blackguard, scarlet corsair (stormwrack) and arguably the justiciar and vigilante (if it had good BAB) can also serve to boost both your BAB and keep you with a decent SA progression. While the Consecrated harrier doesn't give SA, its features are similarly useful. Also, some racial-specific classes (halfling whisperknife, Justice of Weald and Woe focus on the stealthy approach to combat rogues prefer. The justice unfortunately loses quite a few SA dice, but its spells might appeal to every sniper, and it gets a few fighter feats to compensate. For classes that focus on melee, the Streetfighter and Dark hunter could also do the job, but your SA your progression will suffer. Oh, also the master thrower or the invisible blade can be remarkably effective, and even rogue/duelist can work like a charm if you want to focus on the fighting more than on the scullduggery. Of course, depending on the setting, a lot more classes can come in as useful - i.e. the scorpion heritor from Sandstorm is great for waste/desert environment, but could function well in any other. If you can meet the prerequisites (say by a few shadowdancer levels), the Shadowlord (teflammar shadowlord, FR Unapproachable east) is a mini-assassin PrC that works quite well. |

It also gives you +3d6 sneak attack with daggers. It is also only 5 levels. The down side is that it has some weird feat requirements because the class was originally designed to be 10 levels but was cut down to 5. If you combine rogue with swashbuckler (also from complete warrior) and take the feat daring outlaw from complete scoundrel your rogue and swashbuckler levels stack for determining your dodge bonus, grace (from swash) and sneak attack damage. If you go with something like Rogue 10/invisible blade 5/swashbuckler 5 (not necessarily in that order) you get a BAB of 17 11d6 sneak attack, int bonus to damage and bunch of other cool abilities. Throw the two weapon fighting feat tree in there and you have a pretty scary combat rogue IMO. |
| Joseph_Silver02-09-07, 02:54 PM | There's a fighter variant in Unearthed Arcana which lets you swap fighter bonus feats for Sneak Attack. At level 20, you'd have a +20 BAB and +10d6 sneak attack. You have very few skills, but who cares? You can sneak attack them to death! |
| enygmatic_me02-13-07, 04:17 AM | Invisible Blade, Master Thrower, Streetfighter, and Tempest all are good combat PrC's expecially when mixing and matching as they are all 5 level PrC's. You can gain boosts to initiative, boosts to TWF, boosts to AC, and all sorts of other fun can be had with these PrC's. |
| teshen02-14-07, 08:07 PM | Rogue substitution feature (3rd level) Gain: Penetrating strike. Lose: Trap sense Allows: You gain one half your sneak attack damage dice when flanking creatures normally immune to sneak attack damage. Source: Return to Castle Ravenloft |
| Mister_Sinister02-14-07, 08:08 PM | I second nightsong enforcer call. Especially good when entered with swashbuckler 3/rogue 3 with the 'blend' feat from Complete Scoundrel. 2 deadly precision weapons and TWF later, you have a very solid little combat rogue. |
| The_Shaman02-14-07, 08:43 PM | BTW, what's the opinion on the quick reconnoiteaur feat (sp? CAdv) ? It sounded quite good to me (+ initiative, and faster search/spot checks), but I haven't tried it out in-game. |
| Themightybiggun02-15-07, 12:43 AM | I've heard that the feat requirements for the Invisible Blade were actually Quick Draw and Weapon Finesse, rather than the ranged requirements. I think it was cause Master Thrower and Invisible Blade were meant to be the same class before. Can anyone back this up? |
| The_Shaman02-15-07, 02:28 AM | Well, IB used to be a 10-level PrC back in song and silence, so it's possible... although IMO the two still make a great combo so I wouldn't tell everyone even if what you say is true :P . |
| Knucklehead02-23-07, 07:09 PM | How do you maximize Agility Training? Reduce the armor check penalty from light armor by 2 at 9th level seems pretty useless. |
| The_Shaman02-23-07, 09:31 PM | IMO that's not much use if you're not wearing non-mithral chain or mithral medium armors. It's decent without it, though. |
