I'm playing a fighter who is basically in denial that she is even female. I was wondering what sort of prestige classes would fit. Any thoughts?

Um, a fighter who's tomboyish? Do you wanna make her burly-esque, trying to rely on a more powerful aspect, or go for a more roguish feel? I'm not sure a specific class addresses it, but it'd be an interesting build to represent your charrie. Anything else about "him"? Are we talking transvestite him or just acts boyish him?

This is actually a female character who was raised as a boy, and has only come recently to the revelation that she is a girl. She wears her father;s scale mail, mushing her chest in to hide it. She's embarassed byt the fact she is a girl at all, and is still trying to hide it, even though she is now adventuring with a party. She is rather commonn in looks, hair cut raggedly short, like many farm boys. Her str is a 17, and she's worked farmland up until deciding to adventure, so she's no skinny-minnie. Does that help?

Reaping Mauler would be perfect if you're into burly physical combat.
I've a similar NPC in my game who is actually a champion pit-fighter. While she's not in denial of her gender/sex or even sexuality, few men have ever shown interest in her because of her 'butch' look and attitude.

Any combat oriented prestige class should fit. What's her style?

I think PrC's aren't what's going to help you. Just pick a class best for your party role and keep the tomboyishness with the roleplay.

But if all else fails, just get a hat of disguise and/or become a chameleon, even though it's really not a fightery class.

How about Street Fighter?

Also, you could make a WISH to become male. Should work, I guess...

Well, scale mail, good str, average guy image? Power attacking fighter 2/ Barb X. Great combat, get a greatsword and power attack away with great hitting capability. She'll..... sorry, "he'll" fool anyonewith the unusual strength for a woman, and thus keep the secret.

Alternative to barb you could go Ranger, playing up the "I'm a manly man; yeah, I've slept in the woods. Yeah, I've fought a bear" guyishness that's cliche'd in all of the manly characters of manliness. Plus, chose TWF and get into dervish, a feminine-esque class that's not totally gender specific. That way, should she ever "come out", she could get the "oh, well that explains it" reaction from other PC's and even NPC's.

I'd lean away from swashbuckler as it's not great with the heavier armor you're carting. So much potential with this. Play a combat class, but there really aren't many gender-specific classes. Have fun with it though, interesting idea! I'd love to roleplay one of my more awkward charries with this person, heheheheheh....

Tomboy is such a poor label to use. She is just a woman raised a little differently that what we normally expect but doesn't need any special PrC. If you want her to try to appear male then you just need some ranks in disguise (and possibly bluff) which could be taken cross-class if that is required.

I was thinking of Street Fighter, too.

Wow, totally missed the prestige part.

Well, Streetfighter would work; resist damage, get faster attacks, vicious little bugger that way.

Probably the best one........ wow, I can't think of a really "tomboyish" PrC....

What you're asking for is a bit difficult to conceive, since WotC tries to eliminate any kind of gender discrimination when it comes to rules and setting material (most likely in order to appeal to female gamers, which aren't as abundant as their male counterparts). As such, there's no "male power" class or PrC.

As such, there are no tomboyish classes. Your best bet is to rely on classes that allow your character to appear as male in most situations, and this requires the adaptability that classes like the Chameleon and Master of Masks allow. These classes are not exactly scale mail friendly, however.

In any case, it'll mostly be a matter of roleplaying.

Mountebank might work. It's not exactly "fightery," but it gives good "alter ego" abilities.

This does not make sense to me. Any prestige class that works for the character would work. The backstory does not make much of a difference, if any at all.

Well I can only think of classes not to take and that would be Bladesinger or any other that say you must be female to join since that would establish and prove that you are a girl; ever other Prestige class is up for grabs though.

I think her backstory does not limit her as far as prestige classes are concerned, although it might prompt her towards a more strength-oriented class, and she's half-way there anyway. However, it depends on what SHE perceives to be typical of male fighters, and particularly the kind of "male" she's been raised to know and be. A duelist can ooze as much machismo as a frenzied berserker, depending on the perspective - and role-playing. Or maybe she just thinks gender differences are idiotic and has the confidence to think that whatever she chooses is the right way for her.

Well, since she's the strong type, it's good if her PrC builds up on that. What setting are you in? The pious templar is quite devoted to a deity anyway, so genders won't matter as much (Kord first, warrior second, woman... somewhere there along the way, after "doesn't like Ambershire beer".), but the character has to be quite religious. The cavalier can also work, and maybe she has an affinity to animals from the farm. Ranger, paladin, and barbarian PrCs can also work quite easily, too, depending on what base class you want to choose.
