He is a priest of the storm and during this time his god died. Because he worships a concept and not a god I continue to allow him to cast spells. I thought it would be cool that he starts to manifest aspects of the dead god he carries the blood of shown by this prestige class. He is a lvl 9 priest with alot of focus on combat and things associated with the storm. I want it to continue to progress as a priest to cast spells but also he must gain worshipers for the storm and in doing so starts to form a small elemental plane that manifests his ideology. So in this case he would start building a growing world in a stormy landscape. It doesn't have to be powerful but I want it to have benefits it gives him and i need help brainstorming. (pun not intended) My ideas so far is that this world slowly grows as he levels and meets worshiper benchmarks. He can eventually visit this world where he becomes very powerful but only when he is on the plane. More for coolness factor than anything else since there isn't much he can do there. But I also need some mechanical bonuses he can gain from this. Like temporarly opening a portal to this world and letting the storm in. Or summoning things from this world. Even opening up a pinpoint into it and letting out a sudden force of divine energy from it. Any unique ideas of how to run this almost god like class with out making it epic? |

The people within the dimesion would occassionally face troubles and would then, naturally enough call the character into the realm to deal with the problem as a god should aid his followers. He would feel the call of their need and would have a small amount of time to drop whatever he's up to in the real world to rush to their aid. I'd make it possible for him to also bring some of his companions along to help keep everyone in the game. It would only be one small village at first (perhaps with his name to help him link their wellbeing with his) but if he continues to protect them, more and more of the people within his realm will begin to follow him. The godly powers he has within the Divine Testing Ground would grow over time as he becomes the protector of a larger area within the Testing Grounds. (If you have the god book; I think it's called Deities and Demigods, you could grant various levels of Divinity depending on the level of the PrC.) His companions could be granted items within the Testing Ground that would make them more able to aid him in his 'divine' endeavours. Outside of the Testing Ground, he would be slowly gaining access to the more divine portions of his ancestry as his levels in the class increase. These would somehow be dependent on the people within the dimension. I would suggest Shocking Grasp, Lightning Bolt, and Gust of Wind as some of the powers he has outside of the Storm Realm. If it was me, I'd try to keep your player guessing whether or not the world inside the pocket dimension was real or not. Each level of the class should have some noteworthy event linked with it, both inside and out. Until this event is dealt with or faced, your character wouldn't be able to go up to the next level. Once he reaches 10th-level in the PrC, he would be at the least at 19th-level which might be a nice time to make him a God for real. Any of his companions may end up with some small divine spark as a reward for helping him which would then allow them to enter the class as well. Um... I have no more ideas but it's been a long day. :P I'm not sure if I'm on the right track. What do you think? |

I have also been thinking about ways to build this place to not be too cliche. He used to be member of a wandering tribe that lived on flat grasslands with sudden and powerful storms. The people there became strong and spiritual worshiping the storms for the power they had over the land. In my game the pc's world was consumed by demons and they have been trying to save their world and the souls of the people who are trapped in the abyss. (planescape game that I told my players was meant to get into epic levels eventually) So for flavor I was thinking of having his world look like those grasslands with a constant brewing storm overhead. As spirits started to inhabit it he would eventually recognize one. A tribal hero from his old people that will become a sort of companion he can summon for an hour a day. This will also link into the plot because somehow he escaped the abyss... Anyway I have also been thinking of basing the class off his priest spells. Letting him trade spell levels to spontaniously do other effects. Also making his planar ally spells and summons always come from his one world. Some ideas: Spend spell slot to open a pinpoint hole into the divine essence of the plane to cast divine energy at a target. Ranged touch attacked damage to be decided. Burn spells to open a semi stable gate to the world itself. Banish an extra planar creature to his world. Planeshift into world. (some longer ritual so it cant be used as an instant escape) Summon the energy of the plane itself to bring the whole scene into that world for a short time. Anyone have any other ideas of how he could trade in spell slots? Or ideas of how to balance the ones I offer? |
